  • Jab highlights of the legendary greatest boxer of all time. A different look at Sugar Ray Robinson!
    Patreon: / hanzagod
    Sugar Ray Robinson - Was an American professional boxer who competed from 1940 to 1965. From 1943 to 1951 Robinson went on a 91-fight unbeaten streak, the sixth-longest in professional boxing history. He held the world Welterweight title from 1946 to 1951, and won the world Middleweight title in the latter year. He retired in 1952, only to come back two-and-a-half years later and regain the Middleweight title in 1955. Robinson is often regarded as the greatest boxer of all time, pound-for-pound. Robinson was a dominant amateur, but his exact amateur record is not known. It is usually listed as 85-0 with 69 knockouts, 40 in the first round. He became the first boxer in history to win a divisional world championship five times (a feat he accomplished by defeating Carmen Basilio in 1958 to regain the middleweight championship). Robinson retired from boxing with a record of 174-19-6 with 109 knockouts in 201 professional bouts, ranking him among the all-time leaders in knockouts. The undisputed greatest fighter in boxing history!

    The greatest boxer of all time! Sugar Ray Robinson is one of my boxing idols he is without question the most complete fighter I have ever seen on film. It's been quite a long time since my last Robinson highlight so I wanted to showcase one of the more underrated aspects of his skill set - his jab. I'm also taking some more highlight requests if anyone has any so feel free to share! www.patreon.com/haNZAgod

    Ray was so far ahead of his time style wise. You could drop him in any era and he would excel. Besides his jab was that nasty wide right hook he threw to the kidney area. If you look for it he starts throwing that in round one and by later in the fights guys are almost broken down from it. Just continuously hitting them in the same spot. Ray had one on the best boxing IQ’s of all time. Love watching these older videos. Thank you.

      @@papichurro7570 good question. Archie Moore wanted to have a fight with Ray. They were buddies, as much as Ray could be buddies with anyone, and Ray declined. Archie was too big. Ray was really a blown up WW. It’s really too bad that very few films of him as a WW exist. Since he would not make himself beholden to Mike Jacob’s at MSG many of his fights were not in NYC and not filmed. I have listened to audio from a few of his fights called by Don Dunphy. Announcers at that time were not “ homers” like now. They were very objective. I recall Dunphy saying he had never seen anything like Robinson. Perfect combinations, double left hooks. He was a magnificent WW. Absolutely magnificent.

    It’s very sad that there are virtually no films of Ray when he was a WW. 1941, 1951. He was denied the LW title even though he beat Sammy Angott who was given a title fight right after Ray beat him. He was unquestionably the best pound for pound of all time and the best WW of all time. Most of the films of Ray are not of Ray st his absolute peak. The great radio announcer Don Dunphy who called most of Rays early fights said he had never seen anything like him. And Dunphy was not a “ homer” or cheerleader like today’s announcers who are corrupted by the promoter of the fight. Teddy atlas was fired by Bob Arum from calling the ESPN fights because he would not follow Arums dictums. The guys who call ESPN now are owned by Arum and are terrible.

      Just think for a moment how tremendous it would be to see both Robinson v Kid Gavilan fights. Neither were filmed. And the first 5 LaMotta fights were Ray was outweighed by 15/16 lbs. Does anyone reading this think the blowhard who calls himself GOAT would step into the ring with a skilled fighter who weighed that much more then him? These forums and videos are valuable because those the believe Mayweather may see these comments and videos and realize what he really is. And Robinson fought top 5 MW’s Artie Levine and Georgie Abrams when he was a WW. Those two guys were the last of the terrific Jewish fighters. Both would be fighting for one of the diluted championship today.

      To be honest, there were plenty of past legendary Welterweights that would have beaten Mayweather black and blue.
      Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, Kid Gavilán, Charley Burley, José Napoles, Henry Armstrong, Mickey Walker, Emile Griffith are obvious. Would also favor Cocoa Kid, Jimmy McLarnin, Barney Ross, Holman Williams (to name several more) over Mayweather.

    • @TainoMantis
      @TainoMantis 3 роки тому +1

      @@david.amuiki Damn. That's a tough one! I think Ray would have won a very close split decision or it would have been a draw. The reason comes down to punch volume. Ray was more active and chained 4-6 punch power combos (especially at 147 from description). Burley seemed to set up counters & punches off of great positioning and defense (affecting his overall punch volume). It's a fight that Ray's handlers didn't want any part of.

    i watched a great docu many years ago aswell about srr 5 fight european tour aswell what fighter would even do/does that to show how good they were

    • @ralphdupas6179
      @ralphdupas6179 3 роки тому

      What's impressive with that European tour is not how many boxers Sugar Ray Robinson beat in just 2 weeks but how good those boxers he beat. Among those 5 boxers he beat are Jean Walzack (who beat Joe Curcio, Ernie Roderick and Hall of Famers Holman Williams), Luc Van Dam (a top European boxer who beat Cyrille Delanoitte and Bep van Klaveren) and underrated middleweight great Robert Villemain who actually beat Anton Raadik, Jose Basora, Joey de John, Danny Nardico and Hall of Famers Kid Gavilan and Jake LaMotta. Imagine in just 2 weeks he just didn't fought 5 times but beat very good boxers. It's like Manny Pacquiao beating Brandon Rios, Chris Algieri and Timothy Bradley in just 2 weeks. That's amazing!

      @@ralphdupas6179 I used to prefer parrying and shooting with the same hands. I think most coaches tell you otherwise. I always felt this was more efficient. Seeing Robinson do it so well is like being a street artist watching van gogh paint.
