I know what you mean Molon, my parents brought me to NJ back in the 80s from NYC when NYC was trash, now NYC is for the rich and NJ is still trashy or trashier. So its become obvious to me, that NJ has been spiraling downwards since the 60s, I mean they can't even get marijuana legislation they can agree on because they are just trying to implement a state-cartel version of legal weed and screw the little guy, but NJ NORML won't let them pass it. Every major city in NJ is filthy and an eye-sore. My family and I are in the process of moving to Texas. By the way though, if you read the comments on here, its rather discouraging to move to or from anywhere. So I am only looking for level-headed family oriented responses, lets pretend our children are in the room here, if you read many of the comments below, sheesh. I don't get it. Why all the anger issues? Does Texas have good jobs and plenty of them? is it a family-oriented place? Do they have laws that are not trying to screw over the little guy? I mean you would think the average person would gravitate towards that. Don't understand the insults towards Texans or Californians. I mean, California has become a place for the super wealthy, so normal red-blooded Americans want to leave, makes sense to me. And the most discouraging, are the "commie" comments, seriously folks? Who is writing these comments, a 63 year old baby boomer from the McCarthyite era? "commie" no longer has the sting you think it does sir, please enjoy your retirement. If you are a millennial making these comments, dude, you got issues, stop typing.

Highest murder rate in 2019 that it's seen in decades, homelessness on the rise, taxes going up every year. Texas has the worst healthcare in the nation, insurance rates are some of the highest.

I love my rights and they are no more important than yours. I would never want to silence you or your speech. I just dont get what my religion has to do with being an American citizen. Highest murder rate in 2019 that it's seen in decades, homelessness on the rise, taxes going up every year. Texas has the worst healthcare in the nation, insurance rates are some of the highest.
Texas isn't what it used to be 10 years ago. Rent is skyrocketing, you're not renting a GOOD place for under 1200/month. Houses near Dallas easy go for 250k+ now.

I'm a native Texan in the South Texas area and the seemingly endless heat and humidity has seriously made me consider moving north possibly to Colorado maybe even Minnesota. Surely there's a place where you can experience all four seasons and not be sweaty and miserable 9 months out of the year. I've always preferred colder temperatures also seeing temperatures above 80 degrees in December makes me sad as I'd rather have cold winters with frozen lakes and crisp cool autumns with beautiful fall foliage. I feel like I wasn't destined to live here since I prefer mountains and seasonal forests over hot and muggy places.

I'm a fifth generation Texan, and I moved to California as soon as I could. I was harassed by police in Austin and so many other places that I cannot name them all. One of the worst places is Fort Stockton. After I moved to California and had California plates and drove back to visit my relatives in Texas, I got stopped by the Fort Stockton police because I did not stop at a Yield sign when I was getting back on the freeway. The police made me go to a 7-11 ATM to get cash and pay a fine or go directly to jail. AfterT my parents died, I have only been back to Texas once in six years. If my relatives want to see me, they can visit me in California, where I feel safe.

    I'm a Brit-American and I live in Dallas. Been here since 81.
Texas big cities are actually quite liberal, but that changes once you get out to the suburbs and rural areas. Dallas is actually sub-tropical and very wooded - not desert. We have hummingbirds, pelicans, 8 species of woodpecker, etc. Other than around a country and western bar on a weekend night, you won't see many cowboys hats in Dallas, although a lot of people wear cowboy boots. You can fly from DFW airport to most parts of the world, NON-STOP - including Sydney, Dubai and Hong Kong.
I am very happy in Dallas, but lots of Californians are moving here.

Seen two cars doing a figure 8 right next to eachother from two opposite sides right to left and left to right simultaneously. Shortly after there was an accident. They hopped out one vehicle acting like they were surprised.

Texas is not terribly attractive. It has the Austin and San Antonio regions that have diverse cultures, but most of Texas is just sprawling desert loaded with oil wells and cattle ranches. There are a lot of depressing small towns where the big action is high school sports, especially football.
I can get that anywhere else.

You obviously haven't lived in Texas and New Jersey. I used to think better little of New Jersey while growing up there, then I moved to Texas and learned to appreciate the culture, amazing geographical location, beautiful flora, more beautiful cities and suburbs, and overall better quality of life. The only thing better about Texas than New Jersey is no state income tax, and slightly lower cost of life, and that's about it. Needless to say that Texas is not for me.
