I love listening to your calming voice as you describe your thoughts. My struggle with abstract art is using layers of product that is covered up. My frugal brain argues that it’s wasteful. Not that I don’t have enough paper and product to do dozens of layers for the rest of my life. 🤪Thanks for sharing your art and thoughts.
I trained a million years ago as a commercial artist, so more illustration and never anything intuitive in the process. More of a paint by numbers approach and I would NEVER paint over something I liked. This laying process is an exhilarating, mind boggling challenge. Thanks for your share.
I don’t speak up very often, but I really felt the need to tell you, even if I were blind, I would still listen to you! Your ability to understand life and the need to find peace is so wonderful! Thank you for sharing your art. Thank you so much❣️🙏🖖🤭
Claudette, Thank you so much, that means a everything to me. So glad you're here and sharing this creative journey with me! Hugs and have a wonderful week!
Shawn. You are ALWAYS inspirational to me. You ARE a lovely soul. People who make negative comments are wounded in their own hearts. I loved this video. So soothing and calming. I love YOU! ♥️🕊♥️
You are loved! Thank you for being vulnerable with us. Love, love, love this process. Often times in letting go, letting it out, we find ourselves and our peace. The layers are everything. May the upcoming week be better than the last.
thanks my friend, It's been a better week, taking it easy (some what.. lol) Thank you for always being a calm to my soul! Have a great rest of your week.
Reading your comment takes me back to the process - and reminding me of life. We show parts of ourselves, then move on to other things. Some artifacts remain, some things get overridden by other new experiences and ways of being. So these paintings are really a revelation - a parallel - of our lives.
Thank you for sharing your process and the beautiful result. The idea of choosing what you keep what you let go really speaks to me. I love how you translateyour life process into your art.
Even the music was so appropriate, calm trying to take over chaos, keeping the brain cells working! Love, love the painting! It is all the layers, particularly in this piece that give it body, you know there are layers and layers that you can’t see, you can feel them! You made depth and softness at the same time, so inspiring! I love it!💕🇨🇦
How do you began this video speaks volumes to me. Me? Not only am I having a rough day or week or even months. And let’s be honest, the past few years have been rough too. I feel like it’s not my millennia. But I so appreciate hearing similarities from someone else. And losing yourself in your artistry is a beautiful therapy. I have all the equipment.I just need to force myself to go back to the quiet moments of creating. Thank you for giving me a nudge. I bet you peace.
Thank you, thank you. So timely for me........Right now I am discovering that my heart can be the boss of my brain.......lol.......not control, but discovery.................Everything can work/play/live together...Your finished piece said peace , and watching you find it inspires me to take the time to see and allow......My brain wanted you to draw a picture on top of what you had covered up...(I was actually talking to you out loud....lol)..........I would have missed the beauty that appeared ......... I don't have to create something beautiful (what pressure), I can quietly wait for the beauty to appear............So happy
Yes, quietly wait for the beauty to appear, that's what painting does for my soul. It helps me process the dialogue in my head and ends up quieting my soul. Thanks so much for being here!
I love, love, love, love, LoVe this piece and the adding and letting go process that got you there! When I first saw it, before hearing your story I thought, what a peaceful, LOVELY piece and the simple abstract flower that subtly emerged through the calm. Love all of the white and light coloring and nearly imperceptible layering. l hope this helped you get to a better space emotionally. Thank you for sharing!❤
There’s something about the way you described your thought processes that finally finally finally made the layering process makes sense to me. Seems I’ve been over analyzing the hell out of everything so just watching your process, so intuitive, switched on a huge lightbulb over my head. I cannot thank you enough. I feel like I’ve made a huge breakthrough.
Oh this gives me such joy! I'm grateful that I could be some inspiration for you. I'm the queen of overthinking.... and it's always when I let go and respond to what's in front of me do I create my most loved art. Have a wonderful week and thanks for sharing this journey with me.
The process of working the noise of life through art, adding and subtracting, deciding what to keep and what to let go speaks to my soul. Thank you Shawn.
Good morning Shawn, I love this still working on window I had a mishap throwing apples really hard to feed the deer in my backyard and really almost torn rotator cuff. Had to fly back to Fla to see dr get an injection and others things. I can’t wait to get back. I love everything you teach . You make me such a better artist. Have a wonderful Sunday🌻🌻
I have recently been learning that stillness and peace is our canvas, remaining a constant space we can drop into, even within the chaos, fear and all the other ways we become so easily distracted. Your beautiful paining and process Shawn is another confirmation of how we can move our focus from the uncomfortable and align to our natural state of love. Thank you for being such a beacon of love, creativity and light. Blessings to you and all, much love 🙏🏻💗🙏🏻🥰
We all have our own version of such struggles…. Thank goodness we can turn to our art! Hope your next week is better. You are loved and I know you love those around you.
I can’t imagine anyone not liking anything that you do. I’m sorry you’re going through it. “The struggle is REAL” what are you using to go around the edges of your paintings? Thank you! God Bless you today and always
In the case of layers, I believe I would monoprint each layer first to preserve each one & perhaps overlay. Otherwise, sadly, I judge it is a tad wasteful, especially the beautiful collages like yours underneath. I love your truth & depth.

Thanks so much being here and I always think about my supplies as if I don't use them now, then when will I. Use them up my friend!

I love that Idea.... putting it down on my idea list for workshops!! Thanks for watching and being part of my community!
I felt that you were speaking directly to me in this video. Thank you for the inspiration and calmness~

I am only 3 minutes in and love everything you are saying and painting. You are right on ❤️. Thank you for sharing. What kind of Posca is that?
Never mind on the pen, I saw the supply list.
By the use of white I’d say you like to cover up a lot - have u used zinc white instead of titanium?
