Having honed my sailing skills on the Menai Straights whilst at Bangor University in the early eighties, I really enjoyed this video. I hope to come sail

Thank you so much for this video. We have a wee MacWester Rowan 22 at Port Dinorwic and we've been planning a trip to Abermanai for a while, so your advice is fantastic 👍😃

Hi Ian the Rowen certainly packs a lot of boat in a 22 footer and good comfort too. Give me a shout on ch72 if you see me out and say hello mike

I have a Snapdragon but not yet ever sailed, living on Wirral I was a senior white water kayak in instructor. And spent many times on a standing wave between the Meni bridges surfing the wave that is closer to Angle sea than the main land?for me as a beginner I think this journey would be to dangerous unless some one came with me? i had a 62 ft narrow boat and found the transition easy, hands on I think i would learn quick, but retaining knoll age and terminology would be my downfall. But watching your video gives me hope as you showed me many thing i did not know of the straits, as i only know the standing wave and the skerries, thank you my new friend , I look forward to one day meeting you out there, once the Snapdragon is fitted out with radio and alike.

Pleased to be of assistance. I am a big fan of the Thames marine and have had many a snapdragon. She will look after you when you adventure out. Mike

@@sailingcosiloveit It's hard to find live aboard Snap dragon videos, as my intension is to learn to sail at 59 years old lol. And rent house out as income, then travel, but I wonder can you have a life in such a small boat my friend? Loved your videos hope you get more followers :)
I look forward to picking your brains ,I am already fond of it and copied many sailers ideas, like rubber garage jigsaw mats lining the side for insulation and padding? White sides double rain hole ones for floor and traditional tiles under seats and beds? Now I collect any equipment I can and take any advice thank you my friend? meni is a long way off for my lack of skill.

      Hi Mike
I commented because your commentary was so real. You verbalised all the key decisions perfectly that run thru our heads when faced with them at sea. Always humble & respectful.
I was late to sailing (40 when started dinghy sailing) now I’m 62 & bought my 27ft bilge keel Westerly Griffin just before Covid.
I’m originally from Glasgow but have lived in the West Country for 35 years now & Lady Emma is berthed at Falmouth, a great place to learn cruising/ sailing.
My wish is to sail her from Falmouth to the Clyde via the Menai Straights, that’s what made me watch your videos.
      I’ll watch them all now.
Thanks for taking the trouble to create & share them.
Happy sailing to you & your Brother
      Kind regards
      John Stuart

Nice one. How do you secure your anchor chain to the boat oonce the anchor is set?

    • @sailingcosiloveit
      @sailingcosiloveit  3 роки тому

If the water is flat or slight I just leave it on the capstan held by the tooth. If bumpy chain hook and 10 meters of nylon to cleat to kill the snatch. Mike

At last someone who do not complain about the see conditions. Others cry out about the wind, waves, direction of the tides aso and I wander why they sail?
