People cry that they have the right to catch/net the salmon. It’s their heritage, well then catch the fish like your ancestors use to do it. I can almost guarantee that your late relatives did not rip and run up and down the river with a jet sled or any motorized boat. Get your canoe and your hoop net or dip net and have at it. But you shouldn’t be able to use modern ways for a old tradition. Not trying to be rude or anything anyway. Just don’t feel like we have enough fish for us to just take and take and take.
Then you should do something about the 5 mile long and 1 mile deep nets they use to rape the oceans so you can go buy seafood at a store. All the seafood you have ever bought was caught that way. Mirror time for you. Look hard and long. Thank you for watching our video
@@djfish6143 lol. Typical answer. Let’s point the finger at that guy over there. See him, he’s doing way more and worse then me. I’d say the exact same thing to anyone who harvests more gosh damn fish then necessary. They’re struggling enough without our dumb asses pulling them out right before they reproduce. And I’m not saying that we shouldn’t be able to harvest fish. Obviously I build my life around salmon and steelhead. But If us, the people who love these fish are not the ones to stand up and try to protect the resource. Eventually we won’t have to worry about it, because the fish will be gone all together and Then will be the time when everyone starts painting the finger. Just like you did in your comment. All I’m saying is why should you be able to use modern amenities for such a old tradition. Makes no sense.
@@KyleSilva1990 these salmon are from our tribally owned hatchery that we own and operate. We release 4 million salmon fry each year for everyone to have a chance to catch. They travel to the cold waters of Alaska and then after 4 years they return and travel through Canadian waters back to us. We are the last humans to try to catch some. Then they return to the hatchery tube and soon will die. But before that happens the hatchery workers scoop up the salmon and have to manually make them reproduce by putting the eggs in a container and then they take the males and fertilize the eggs. These are not NATIVE SALMON. They are hatchery fish and DON’T reproduce. I hope I educated you a little. Everything i just said is on the internet you just have to look it up instead of sounding foolish.
You will never know because white people won’t teach Native American history in schools 🏫. Till they do then yes this is how they always did it. Mic dropped 🎤
"Traditional fishing" at its best!! Kills me every Time I see this! I get that hydropower and development has greatly reduced fish to "subsist on" but not sure this is the way to subsist or even the way the ancestors would want? As I've said before IF you're feeding your family with EVERY fish you catch then great! If it gets wasted or goes for sale then Shame on you! Just see too much waste and mistreatment of resources and greed! I harvest many fish every year (by far different methods) and those fish and up just as dead BUT I feed my family with them and treat each being I harvest with great respect by using every piece I can! If you're going to post these videos maybe spend a little time explaining your oroces, your goal, and your outcome! I think it would be better to educate people who do not understand the points behind the methods?
Another example of why they have to blame the sports fisherman for the depletion of the fish stock.
That's so funny how they stretch the net all the way across the river I wonder who has quotas
And I have to fish with barbless hook in that river!!

Your “tribally owned hatchery” is paid for by the “white mans taxes” so it’s just as much ours as yours.
I bet this is exactly how there ancestors did it to feed there family.. Mono gill net and a aluminum river boat and outboard all recent items lol!!!

Sometimes it feels like you two are a couple of young kids out there fishing 💕💕 together.
Is that legal?
Thank you for watching our video and yes this is completely legal for Native Americans from our tribe to fish on our river. 👍
