Bring extra cash incase you decides to expedite for sooner travel. Passport is good to have in hand you don't have to re-new for 10yrs. But don't wait for the 6 months rule and not to be able to travel forgetting to re-new. Great informations thank you.

Hey! I just became a U.S Citizen because of military service. On the website it says I have to submit my original Naturalization Certificate but I’m scared it will be lost in transit. Is it possible to send in a notarized copy of the paperwork?

No only the original certificate is accepted but you will get it back. If it does not get sent back you can contact the state department.

My local post office was able to take the photo.... For $15. I took a photo from my local UPS store, but they said the color wasn't quite right....

You can get a certified copy from vital records/county clerk/health department etc.

No you need a birth certificate or equivalent (crba, naturalization cert, or certificate of citizenship) alongside your id. SSN card is considered secondary id if you do not have an id or have an expired or out of state.

Yes...from what I understand the postal worker doing your paperwork can just take the cash and get you a postal money order.
