A genius who died in oblivion, the madcap laughs. But who cares? Loved and sorely missed he shall go down in history for his warmth, wit, humour and outpour of creativity/curiosity.Dearest Syd, thank for the music as another pop song goes!

@@thewholetruth5473 He was to introduce psychedelic music to England, the kind which
was completely different in America. His music and lyrics are etherial, esoteric much more poetic than
that of his American contemporaries. Everything about him was magical according to Mick Rock's words.
He was so original unlike his other band members and quite unoredictable as a guitar player. If that doesn' t make him a genius, then what?

@@athinakoufaki3329 He most certainly did NOT "introduce psychedelic music to England". It was there before him. He was just mentally ill. You just call him a "genius" because you see some others in the comments stupidly called him a genius.

@@athinakoufaki3329 People got fascinated with Syd Barrett because of the movie The Wall. Syd was no genius. Someone else in the comments stated it well: "One person calls him a genius and the flock follows. Seriously, a 10 year old could do better, but because he was in a successful band he gets praised. Listen to this. Do you seriously hear any talent?"

@@thewholetruth5473 Hey, I've seen many ten year olds play much worse than this could ever be. Don't try to make sense out of the outer realms, but only try to tap into how we can truly relate to our inner truths....And believe me when I say this makes a lot more sense when you don't try to make any sense of it in the first place. Just let it flow upon your mental flow, let your good sense go, and "trip"-toe through the tulips with your mind blowin' in the wind...and God bless in Godspeed my friend.

I really like the backing chorus idea heard added to Dark Globe. I've been familiar with the original since its release in early seventies and this is has been a nice twist. Rather a pity the guitar is out of tune and buzzing in a couple of the other offerings.

Unfortunately, people call Syd a genius after his fall from grace and being part of the early days of Pink Floyd, but somewhere down the path he took he fried his brain and was never able to get back on track again, and probably the main reason he dropped out of life and went into seclusion. Don't get me wrong, I love Syd and his contributions to the music world. I do think he was a genius, but after having to leave Pink Floyd, he became half the man he once was, as sad as that sounds. I prefer to remember Syd during his days with the Floyd, and not so much with his many attempts afterwards with many that tried to help Syd regain his greatness.

@@slkfdjsadlkj As much as I hate to say anything bad about Syd, because he was a true genius, or at least a pioneer ahead of his time, in my opinion people are just in denial about his later days after leaving the band. You don't have to be diagnosed by a doctor to know someone has mental issues of some sort preventing you from performing up to your usual standards. Even his fellow Floyd band mates have said as much over the years, and if anyone would know, it would be them.

I have a pretty good ear for music, and this guy was just drugged out of his mind....I guess another druggie appreciates this collage of this utter mess that's being called creative genius. Pink Floyd was a great group of musicians, I see now why they didn't allow Syd to destroy their vision.

~ I would say, especially with his later work, yeah, Barrett was a train-wreck. People who knew him have said he was one way, and then suddenly he was somebody else. It's a shame, because as atrocious as this is, it's full of a lot of good ideas.
People generously throw the word "genius" around, and people are often too generous with it. Townshend is a Genius. Zappa was a genius. Anderson is a genius. Myself, I think his material is often "next level" stuff, just poorly executed. As limited as his catalogue is, it really is brimming over with creativity; he just caused too much damage to himself. I get the impression he wanted stardom, got a taste of it, and didn't like it. So he sabotaged it; that way he could leave it and have it be the others' doing. But when he changed his mind and went solo, he was too damaged to do it the right way. Just a theory.
Genius? I don't know how bright he was intellectually, he could have been a "genius." He could have been a drooling idiot, I don't know. But he definitely was a true original, and I actually like his work with Pink Floyd, and after.
