The featured sculpture is called Fons Americanus, it's a mockery of the Queen Victoria Memorial which celebrates the British Empire.
It's great to see it shown here as it's a brutal depiction of slavery, with sharks circling on their journey to the USA. I'm pleased to be teaching about it in school

...Constricted by the invisible forces that constrict and crush from all sides, the black person seeks to simply live and move forward, yet the pressure is ever-present and it contorts not only the body, but the mind as well, PUSHING us back when we feel we are at the cusp of a breakthrough, meanwhile the onlookers who have never lived this think to themselves, "they are tense and sensitive for no reason", judging us for wanting to exist un-oppressed, which we have never known once in any country ran by 'others'. Noone is smiling here, and all are lost, trapped in cage they didn't choose. The way that she's able translate feelings into imagery is really beyond words. Inspires me to be a better artist.

Can u explain the ending though? My interpretation is that she made it all the way to the end against this invisible oppressor, opened the door she wanted to open all this time, only for her to just see nothingness. I just get the feeling that now as she is being returned back to her seat she wont get up and try again to reach the door.

Right after it flashes to a black man being brutalized by an invisible force, meant to be the police. Twigs would never put out content that is meant to silence or subdue black voices or hearts.
@@crystalyensko6992 ya i thought about that. I think if she saw nothing then it would be a confusion on her part maybe. But another possibility is that the blackness represented a breakthrough or uncharted territory and that the oppressive forces were holding her back from it. Then it would make sense. I guess im inserting my own biases because the video just reminded me of similar concepts that all end in a way that i interpreted this video and thought maybe fka twigs saw it the same way. maybe she has more info on it that im missing, like a continuation to my idea that changes it from a neither hopeful or hopeless thought to one of hope.
