That dropper lever looks very wack! Strange choices on the frame for sure, even though it didn't fare well against the competition I am happy to see some manufacturers trying something different, especially with suspension. Sounds like it could evolve into something better with some geo changes (HTA and chainstay length). The vertical motion of the rear tire is pretty unique, I could see that being advantageous in certain settings.
Check the Enduro version of the Riot Full Party. I had the chance to ride the Riot Trail full party (wich I wanted to buy) at the local dealer, but I didn't feel good on the Trail bike. They hat the Riot Enduro Full Party in XL, wich I tested too. It feels quite different, different Head Angle and longer chain stays. On the Trail Version I felt like sitting "on top of" the bike. On the Enduro Version I really feel integrated in the center of the bike. The overall length is brutal, never felt so secure on an Enduro Bike before. Love it

Tomas slavik seems to be pretty Happy with his Ghost Riot. Maybe You Guys should do an Interview and ask him about all the stuff thats wrong with the Bike.
I actually think this bike is pretty cool. Not a fan of the purple but like the concept. Sounds like an easy "fix" for this bike would be a 2° angle set, higher rise bars and a firmer compression tune in the rear. All very doable considering the kit you get for a very reasonable price. Couple of mods and you'd end up with a cool little jib/slopeduro/park rat bike.
Idk, they seemed obsessed about speed while nobody actually does trail racing. They also forgot the fact that the shock is fully customizable, so that's a mistake on their part. My Riot Enduro is fun and playful, and good on the big climbs, so if you don't care about the stereotype idea crap of max speed and perfect geo, this is a good bike
Ghost has a reputation for doing things differently than we do here the in the Americas. Unfortunately, I have always felt like their bikes wield out-of-date tech and very strange geometry/sizing. After working at a ghost dealer for 6 years here in the states, I've learned to dislike a lot of their products. It took them forever to convert their Kato FS to an actual thru-axle setup, In fact, I think they are still manufacturing that bike with a standard quick release. I'm not surprised it failed the test.
This bike, to me, seems like that food stuff thing you made while you were REALLY stoned, and you loved it. Then you find it in your fridge when you’ve sobered up a bit later, try it again, and you had a lot of good ideas with it, but ultimately you were high as a mountain so your overall execution was piss poor and is it’s big downfall as to why you don’t like it.
new trail riots are based on enduro full party, i suppose to try out all mountain versions because they come with air in the back and also come with fox suspension at $2500, also you can still buy models from 2021, they offer 64 degrees head tube angle and higher rise bars
I have the Riot Enduro and its actually a really good bike the frame is really long it spends you a Lot of traction and confidence Downhill, but the uphill is quite hard no wonder by the weight.
Luckily the 2021 Ghost Riot range has got several different models. Although 140mm could be enough travel for my riding style my favourite one that I'm going to buy is the AM model because of the 64 deg head angle and as a tall rider (203cm) I like the 450 mm chainstays 528mm reach and 160mm long headtube and air shock. :)
I hope you will like it! Also pinkbike was very hypocritical on the dimensions, since there is barely any difference between the Ghost's dimensions and the dimensions of competition bikes
I read that The Ghost Riot has 3 different models, Trail, All Mountain and Enduro. All of which use the same frame. Also 3 differents levels Essential, Universal and Full Party. Trail has 140 fork, AM 160 and Enduro 170.
With the outside+ merger I’m bummed Ryan Palmer didn’t get to review this bike. Would have been fun to hear him absolutely lose his shit over the cables and zip ties.
I'm surprised you didn't talk more about the fork. Just replaced the factory 36 on my enduro bike with a Selva S and it's leagues above. Very sensitive without bottoming out. You really need to change out the compression stacks (5 min job) to get it set up right. I would wager the rear on this bike would have come alive with the firmer tune. Obviously you guys tend to want to ride these bikes as is but would be great to have seen what you thought with some tuning
That's the whole problem with the review. Also, the bikes come without pre-tuning, so idk what they were thinking. For the geo, I really don't feel it at all. They laughed at the long head tube but forgot that it's actually much safer
@@hashy4940 that's very true. I'm certain there is some small tuning done by the users but some bikes with high end components take more customisation. I had a look at the geo chart surprisingly they recommend me a small where most brands say medium. Seems like standard trail bike geometry to me. Small has 100mm head tube so I can only guess they increase so much to retain feel for larger rider
@@LegendsOfTheLoam indeed, and honestly I don't know why pinkbike makes such a fuss about that. The geo chart recommended an XL for me, and it was exactly the right size for me. If the chainstay is indeed too long, I can confirm that if you don't cringe out like they do, you could have a great ride.
I tink Large frame would be much batter, I have Ghost riot EN (enduro 160mm rear travel) in size large and is long, super stable. Except not best for tight corners. But if you like to be in the center of the bike and attacking fast trails it gives you super stable filing. I am 182cm and 500mm reach on large is probably the longest I can stil ride so I dont recomend buying large if you are smaller. I love super long bikes but if you want something to throw around is not the bike for you.
Interesting review. Given the comments, do your riders think that this might be a good candidate for a mullet conversions? It certainly sounds like that might shift the rider further out of the cockpit and put the rider in a seated position further toward the rear axle, potentially stabilizing the rear suspension movement during a climb.
Main issue is you judged it as a trail bike, which is hardly the case, as they basically took heavy enduro frame and made it shorter in travel, it should have at least 160 front as the AM version. In the trail variant it’s for no one imho.
They were really obsessed about the timing tho which really doesn't matter unless you do comp. I have a Ghost Riot EN Essential and it has absolutely no pedal bob, so if they had set up the suspension they might actually have had a way better experience
#pinkbike This edition of Ghost Riot is an in between an enduro bike & downhill bike because the headtube & seatpost angles , (including the weight of it), are downhill geometry while the forks & drivetrain (and cogs) are for enduro. Anyway, with those kinds of angles, I'd swap it out for a triple crown airforks & rear airshocks to make them tuneable without the guesswork. But heck, it's a fun bike & our body would get used to it and the bike (my Ghost AMR Plus 2013) is predictable. Just my 2 cents. PS: I noticed in the video of the chain slapping (2:00)...was the clutch of the Shimano XT switched OFF? If it was ON, chain slaps would be minimal.

ghost = haibike - as far as I am aware of, they are part of the german zeg which is a union of many cycling shops that formed to a purchasing pool around the 60´s The initial idea was to guarantee a good supply, reduced prices and increased profit margins. result is, that on bikes from brands within this pool, you see a lot of parts coming from unfamiliar or uncommon brands or at least not always the top players of the brand and marketing world which is not necessarily a bad thing if its leading to lower entry prices for people who are on a budget, or just interested in the sport. Ghost has a few very capable frames though... yeah not this one :)
The suspension is to more to blame than the geo. There are brands like Giant which had conservative geo, but didn't ride like that. The suspension is just too mushy at the top then suddenly ramps, which means it turns into an HT kind of. It's a familiar feel that has you in a strong defensive position, anticipating that disruptive feedback from the rear end. You blame the geo since to comfortably get into a strong position, the fit has to be good.
Except for the DP lever, you are. I have a Riot Enduro, and it really is awesome if you take 5mins to set up the suspension. That fixes the geo and climbing speed
I have the AM model, which is probably more into it's designated teritory. I never rode the trail model but the specs always made it look like somewhat of an oddball to me. And yes, Ghost is a weird brand. They push interesting standards but are also totally lost while developing their bikes.
Hi, sorry for coming back to an old comment. I am also looking into the AM model and I am torn between sizes. The charts suggest a large for my 182cm heigth and 84cm inseam, but the medium looks good enough. Does the bike feel large and unwieldy with a recommended size?
@@defunctworld Well, you can basically plow through rough terrain but it does want to be hammered into turns. I'm 179cm and ride size L. It does feel huge but considering the numbers still managable and not too huge. Especially the steering tube length is great as you have a super stiff cockpit without any additional spacers. I'd definitely recommend to test ride one and check the standover height too as it's on the absolute limit with me. You will need to get used to it if you didn't habe a bike with similar numbers, but for the moment I don't regret the purchase.
@@dschingy thanks for the answer, I really appreciate it. Compared to my current bike (2016 27.5 enduro bike with 461 reach and 66 hta) it would be an 90mm increase in wheelbase. I do find myself often over the rear of my bike so I guess here I would be more centered. I cant test ride it, my local shop can only order with partial payment in advance so I will have to bite rhe bullet and see what happens.
They are actually really good, it's just that when they reviewed it, they did not set the suspension right (like 99% of people do in the first 24 hours of getting a bike). The only thing I can agree on is the dropper post lever.
@@jarnold1789 I personally own the bike, and I can only agree with the weight issue. I don't really care about what people say about bikes but when pinkbike starts complaining about stuff that you don't really feel, I just get annoyed. The only issue on this bike I've experienced is that the rims get battered very easily, but then again I do crazy stuff with it so idk
the frame on the Enduro series is way better. I've been sending that thing (Riot Enduro Essential) on DH trails and I was never afraid to crash, even on a double black diamond. However, I agree with you on the graphics of the Full Party models
Everything functions properly ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Nothing was damaged in the box aside from a decal on the fork. The decal was missing a piece of a corner but I ended up peeling them off anyways. Assembly is easy BUT make sure you tune up the derailleurs. Both the front and rear need adjusting. I'd advise going to a bike shop but I opted out and put in 10+ hours with the help of UA-cam. Ended up fraying a shifter cable but all in all I learned from the experience. The Brakes work well but the front caliper needs adjusting or at least mine did because the rotor was rubbing against the pads. Make sure you swap out the seat, grips, and pedals. For the short run you'll be fine though. I've read that this bike isn't built yet for hard trails but I just need it for the city. PA has some of the worst roads and being in a mountain this was a great choice. Worth the investment!
It may come at a surprise to some, but: There're viewers and a whole world outside North America. So it's nice to have reviews at some European products - especially good ones like the ones from Pinkbike (love them). Reviews from here aren't usually great and done with such experienced reviewers.
I feel like the "It has good parts" is only a pro if the rest of the bike has at least something going for it over the competition. Or in very entry level bikes, where it can be the difference between acceptable brakes and ones that don't even work. But in this price range? What difference does it make to have an Deore or an XT or a GX or a XO1 drivetrain on it, if the rest of the bike doesn't cut it.
I think this trail version is a bad deal. They really should have shorter chanstays for medium. But for me at 6'3" the enduro version in large seems like a good deal.
@@hashy4940 Do you have one? Ghost size guide says that I should have a XL. But the reach on that is crazy long, even large is a bigger bike then Nukeproof Mega in XL. So their guides seems a bit off...
I wouldn't buy a Ghost in Canada! No one sells/services them here. I emailed them directly in need of bearings for my 2017 Ghost Slamr x 5.9 that no shop could source and they did not even reply. Bad customer service and no service in Canada. #ghostbikes
I have 2 bikes with that crazy German geometry. First off it needs a longer stem - the germans still design bikes for those. Must have been a mistake / marketing that put the short stem on that. It is good for yes going slowish over extremely rough rock gardens where you need a short turning radius. Agreed not as fun as blasting over that same garden at a 62 degree head angle but just as effective - albeit at a beginners pace.
I think Ghost designed the Trail versions to fill the gap between the Enduro and XC bikes that they sell, so I guess they just slapped a shorter stem length on the enduro series design and made the HT angle steeper and never did much more
Such a shame that this bike was basically destroyed by bad geometry. Their enduro model looks a step to better direction. Would have liked to hear a lot about that fork, but as said, that hta destroyed it.
Ghost is a weird brand, only ever seen one or two here in B.C. and have no idea why anyone would buy one.. if you want to save money you go YT, Commencal or Canyon to get the bet spec for money. If you want to spend more, pretty much any other brand has better balance geometry and spec choice. The reach vs. chainstay length, seat tube length and head tube lengths are so weird.
4k really isn't bad the includes sales tax at 20% . What other bike would you get those components close to that price. I'm not saying it's a great bike but the spec is unbelievable at that price
@@SwolePapi15 honestly the geo is quite okay once you ride it a bit, I think they are too obsessed with time and perfection in bikes. Also, they have a different Full Party model for this year with updated geo, so they are actually reviewing an outdated version

I never rode the trail model but the specs always made it look like somewhat of an oddball to me.
And yes, Ghost is a weird brand. They push interesting standards but are also totally lost while developing their bikes.
Yeah, I think they might be experimenting with different designs to see what works and what doesn't
Hi, sorry for coming back to an old comment. I am also looking into the AM model and I am torn between sizes. The charts suggest a large for my 182cm heigth and 84cm inseam, but the medium looks good enough. Does the bike feel large and unwieldy with a recommended size?
@@defunctworld
Well, you can basically plow through rough terrain but it does want to be hammered into turns.
How can I buy the ghost water bottle
privateer 141 vid pls?
Looks like a Walmart special
formula suspensions made in italy and is good stuff trust me
Sigh, no fighting chance from a cultish small brand.
They are actually really good, it's just that when they reviewed it, they did not set the suspension right (like 99% of people do in the first 24 hours of getting a bike). The only thing I can agree on is the dropper post lever.
@@hashy4940 I think pinkbike knows what they’re doing
@@jarnold1789 I personally own the bike, and I can only agree with the weight issue. I don't really care about what people say about bikes but when pinkbike starts complaining about stuff that you don't really feel, I just get annoyed. The only issue on this bike I've experienced is that the rims get battered very easily, but then again I do crazy stuff with it so idk
is sarah gone?
160 fork would make it
Can you still mount a front derailleur on this bike?
Probably not. Why would you want to?
I have a strong feeling, this design won't age well. In regards to both frame and graphics...
the frame on the Enduro series is way better.
Curas are the best
Isn't that 'dual-link" actually just a DW link? Might be a future lawsuit here
Did I just watch a review on a bike I couldn't but (12:06) if i wanted to?
And which parts are bad on this bike?
Suspension and head angle are tbe problems on this bike.
I think this trail version is a bad deal. They really should have shorter chanstays for medium. But for me at 6'3" the enduro version in large seems like a good deal.
Believe me, it's the best out there for enduro imo
@@hashy4940 Do you have one? Ghost size guide says that I should have a XL. But the reach on that is crazy long, even large is a bigger bike then Nukeproof Mega in XL. So their guides seems a bit off...
@@niclaskaiste250 yes I do have a Ghost Riot Enduro. I think you should take an L
@@hashy4940 Are you on large? Can you fit a 200mm dropper post and slam it?
@@niclaskaiste250 I am on XL, you should be able to fit one on it
I wouldn't buy a Ghost in Canada! No one sells/services them here. I emailed them directly in need of bearings for my 2017 Ghost Slamr x 5.9 that no shop could source and they did not even reply. Bad customer service and no service in Canada. #ghostbikes
Sounds like you got Ghosted
im not a fan of my ghost
Which one do you have?
I have 2 bikes with that crazy German geometry. First off it needs a longer stem - the germans still design bikes for those. Must have been a mistake / marketing that put the short stem on that. It is good for yes going slowish over extremely rough rock gardens where you need a short turning radius. Agreed not as fun as blasting over that same garden at a 62 degree head angle but just as effective - albeit at a beginners pace.
I think Ghost designed the Trail versions to fill the gap between the Enduro and XC bikes that they sell, so I guess they just slapped a shorter stem length on the enduro series design and made the HT angle steeper and never did much more
Khm... Counter rotating.
Such a shame that this bike was basically destroyed by bad geometry. Their enduro model looks a step to better direction. Would have liked to hear a lot about that fork, but as said, that hta destroyed it.
Believe me, the enduro is just amazing
Ghost is a weird brand, only ever seen one or two here in B.C. and have no idea why anyone would buy one.. if you want to save money you go YT, Commencal or Canyon to get the bet spec for money. If you want to spend more, pretty much any other brand has better balance geometry and spec choice. The reach vs. chainstay length, seat tube length and head tube lengths are so weird.
I think some people either get used to it or they are just naturally able to ride it without noticing the geo
If the price would be around 1500 i would say ok, give this weirdo a try... But a monstrosity like this for 4170$? HELL no.
4k really isn't bad the includes sales tax at 20% . What other bike would you get those components close to that price. I'm not saying it's a great bike but the spec is unbelievable at that price
@@briain12 id pay more to get something with proper geo though
@@SwolePapi15 me too. But I'd possibly buy this and part it out
@@SwolePapi15 honestly the geo is quite okay once you ride it a bit, I think they are too obsessed with time and perfection in bikes. Also, they have a different Full Party model for this year with updated geo, so they are actually reviewing an outdated version
@@hashy4940 Id have to look at the updated geo charts, and to be fair Im sure plenty of people will/do enjoy the geometry its pretty subjective
Are you guys ever going to do an Ebike shootout? ( maybe you did already?) Thanks
They did at the last field test
this is one goofy ass bike

Glad I didn't bought this bike.... Had almost bought one in September.
