Dehumidifier water tests

  • Tested my dehumidifier’s water to see if it was relatively pure. Yes I cleaned all plastics and clear coated the coils before conducting this test. There’s also a hepa filter on this unit and it’s only a few days old. I intend to save the water and use it for the steam dryer and my clothing iron so I don’t have to deal with scale. I’m also going to run it through my auger-style ice maker to flush it out periodically, but since DI water doesn’t taste very good, or at all for that matter, I use Deer Park for making ice I intend to chomp. Anyways, I didn’t use a precise spacing block but I ran the test around an inch between electrodes to give a ballpark idea and I didn’t have a camera man so I apologize if I appear a bit uncoordinated with all of it. Sooooo, rock and roll and enjoy my awesome portable scope meter.

    Excellent. Much needed info. Thanks for your work. Not sure why you don’t have more views and thumbs up.

      Egypt Nepthys thanks! Eh, I mainly just view and comment but I have some projects coming up that I’ll probably film and post, so stay tuned!

    I use dehumidifier water in my washer and in my distiller, but I would never consume the water directly from the dehumidifier. The collection container gets nasty. Also, I'd use a TDS meter to measure the water quality.

    Trying to understand what I'm getting into with these de-humidifiers and atmospheric water collectors

    There are companies who build dehumidifiers to make water all the time. Just be sure you filter the water before you drink it and remember. It's not the ionization or the heavy metals. That's a concern. However, it's the bacteria growth. An Ultra violent light filter wouldn't hurt either. But hey, the alternative would be die of thirst. I would drink the crap out of that water😂

      thank you bud! that means alot! please let me know if your findings differ from mine. Should that happen, we will have to figure it out. Thats the scientific process after all!

    My city's municipal tap water is absolutely horrid. I have been using Zerowater filters but they've just gone up in price (2022) and do not last too long. So I'm seeking cheaper, more cost effective ways. Constructing my own from black carbon, activated charcoal, silica & play sand may be a plan as well as dehumidifier sourced water ?

    Not 10 times, but 10,000 times resistance.

      no 200,000 ohms (kilo means 1,000 so 200 ish kohms is 200,000) vs 2,000,000 ohms (2 Mohms is 2,000,000 - mega means million) would be 10x not 10,000...that would be ten GIGAohms.

    How do you clear coat the coils? I want to make drinking water.

    • @johnk756
      @johnk756  4 роки тому +1

      Playboy Saint you will have to disassemble the unit and clean and score the coils (if it’s a coil type unit) and then use a good urethane clear coat spray to coat the coils. And I would recommend a particulate filter for any dust or allergens that make it through. Also clean the machine thoroughly to ensure any protectants or lubricants from the factory are removed (I’d recommend using ethanol for that task). After that, regularly maintain it and rock and roll.

      Why can't we just drink it?

    • @johnk756
      @johnk756  4 роки тому +2

      Tony Tony well if you haven’t cleaned your coils after buying the machine it may have preservative oils on them to prevent corrosion during storage time before the unit is sold and used, also if it’s an older unit and been used intermittently there is likely bacterial growth in the coils, but in theory if there were no oils or preservatives on the coils and the machine was clean of course ya could drink it, but I gotta warn ya, very pure water tastes pretty weird...the water you’re used to drinking has a small amount of taste due to mineral content; not to mention ultra pure water is actually pretty bad for you...if you’re interested in knowing how that’s possible feel free to ask and I’ll explain.

      You guys have come up with a good idea for generating clean water. With more homes solar with essentially free electricity. The excess can be used to generate free clean water, just filter and go.

      Read the other comments, I answer that question in detail. Not too keen on retyping it all.

    What kind of tester is this ?

    • @johnk756
      @johnk756  3 роки тому +1

      its an oscilloscope, but i am just checking for resistance across a span. Higher resistance = purer water...end of test.
