  • The Ross Revenge is the 3rd Radio Caroline Ship, operating since 1980. Radio Caroline is now operating on AM-648, an ex BBC World Service frequency, and on DAB in some areas. Its continuing to broadcast since its founder launched it in 1964.
Thanks to Gary Camblin, son of my best mate Jeff Camblin who co-created the megawatt giant Kiss FM 103.7 - AM-1008, in 1987. Jeff has passed on, and its with tremendous joy for Gary, driving the whole way from Northern Ireland, to visit the radio station of his dreams, Radio Caroline, in West Mersea, south east Essex.
We are joined by the founder of www.thefreedom..., Karen Dodd, who wants to see why and how Radio Caroline came in to being... broadcasting in 1963 was so restricted, an independent producer, Ronan O'Rahilly, couldn't get his artist, Georgie Fame on the radio...and this is how...he did. Radio Caroline was born in 1964, and its still with us..
Thanks to the huge public support it has.
It needs to raise £300,000 so the ship can be taken to dry dock for repairs and maintenance.

Learning everything I can about Radio Caroline & the other offshore radio stations has been fun. I think Radio Nuts are everywhere. North America had one big station that was like none other during the golden era of Rock/POP Radio. The "Big 8 CKLW" out of Winsor Ontario Canada serving the Detroit/Winsor radio market plus many other states & provinces. It set the trend with its incredible music director Rosalie Trombley, the hit predictor/career maker, and its mega signal on 800KHz that covered much of the of the North American Continent. Their were other big stations in many places but the home of Motown had the one and only CKLW. The LW in CKLW stood for London & Winsor Ontario Canada.

I've made a bit of a study of Radio Caroline from far away North America. Your fans are everywhere. The original equipment including consoles & turntables were from the GATES Radio Company of Quincy Illinois USA. Most often offshore radio used Gates and RCA Transmitters. The consoles & turntable pre-amps were Valve (British) or Vacuum Tube (US & Canada) units.

I enjoyed this video , it reminded me of when i went aboard in the Dover era. The studios look great now a lot different from then. Great to see that the dream is being kept alive. Radio Caroline The Legend lives On.

The now legal legend lives on, but not the exciting clandestine version anymore.
