Even easier, on your trekology pole with the rubber top, use a T-nut. Use the ones with the little spikes. use a drill bit the same size as the outside diameter of the bottom of the T-nut and hammer the spikes down until the spikes do into the rubber.
1lb??? For $90??? Link that unicorn!!! Sounds awesome. Also, this mod is really good for winter, but pretty annoying to use in the non-snowy months…As it is only a mono-pod…So you need a tree and a strap.
I drilled into the top of the handle of my trekking pole, like you did, but I inserted a 1/4-20 brass insert into the hole. I cut off a section of a 1/4--20 threaded bolt and filed the cut to remove sharp edges, and threaded one end into the brass insert, so now I have a bolt sticking out of the top of my trekking pole, like you have, for the ball head mount. However, I'm able to later remove that 1/4-20 bolt and have my trekking pole returned to normal. When I go downhill, I sometimes palm the tops of my trekking poles, so having the hanger bolt sticking out of the top would not work for me. After all of that work, I later decided it was far easier to just velcro an Ultra-Pod compact portable tripod to the handle of my trekking pole when I wanted to use it like a monopod. The weight of the camera is not centered on the top of the pole handle, but works well for a light GoPro.
I found another mod that would work really well for a go pro. It would just take a drill/bit, two small adapters, and maybe some epoxy/glue. Think you might try it if I made a video showing how to do it?
That’s an awesome idea, but the total cost (unless you already have those poles) would be more than double. I guess it just comes down to budget, as that would certainly be more convenient! Thanks for sharing.
Sure there are. Anything that is 1/4 20 will work. You can look up those bolts on Amazon or better-yet, go to your local hardware store and say you need quarter 20 hardware.

Okay this is genius… Thank you for sharing. I gotta try this!!
It was a really fun project. If you make one post it. Thank you for watching.
I think you might dig the new DIY video, if you haven’t seen it yet. I could picture you and Miranda using it on trail.
This is awesome!!!!! My tripod was $90 and weighs 1lb but I like this idea!!

Great idea! I hear you on the ease of use with the Velcro. Honestly, I’m not sure how much I’ll use the monopod, but it was a fun project.
Cool mod. I’ve thought about trying some kind of attachment for my GoPro but the little shorty stick works well enough to not make me attempt it.

@@rootsandpeaks perhaps!
Or you can buy a trekking pole that’s built for this (REA) sells one really great
@@garyhodge3257 totally. A few brands do. A completely valid option.
Or just get Black Diamond AR/WR trekking poles and 1/4 - 20 attachment for $20 directly from them.

Are there cheap 1/4" camera thread bolts? Go vegan
