Been years since I uploaded anything, but I recently got a GoPro and have gotten back into playing real hockey instead of just Chel and it's been a lot of fun so far.
Great footage and commentary! I’m on Katana, and all our games vs. You guys have been good ones, and close. Love what you said about our “old school” goalie, and of course you’re right on about that - we’ve been calling him Palmateer for years… ;-). So interesting to hear your thoughts on goalie technique and the flow of the game. Much enjoyed, thanks for sharing, and I hope we see you guys in the final!
Somehow I missed this earlier. but thanks for your comment! Yeah, outside of a little chippy play, the games have been friendly enough while still competitive. Your goalie is awesome, I love seeing the pad stacks and kick saves! Had a blast getting back in net and hope to catch up on posting our playoff games soon!
I love your graphics, maybe a weird thing to notice, but the Sportsnet style scorebug is quite clean and easy on the eye. Video is great too, love the subtle zoom to catch action at the other end!
This league is run out of Oakville, Ontario in Canada. I've had a few people say that it might be a bit closer to C league. I guess it all depends on the area. Lots of hockey players in the Greater Toronto Area!
D league in Canada is high C league in most of the US. Northern hockey crazy states excepted. Pond hockey in Canada can be more competitive than D or even C league in many places. I was a marginal skater when I lived in Ontario and the best skater on my team in Dallas (played on 5 teams in Dallas).
Found you on Reddit. A few things... Your glove is drifting low on a lot of shots, especially when you drop into the butterfly. Work to flare out your pads when you are down. Currently your feet are almost tucked behind your butt. Finally, try not to slump down your torso when dropping down It makes you so much smaller in net. Keep your back strong with gloves pushed out. A trick I learned for this was to clench my butt cheeks- it somehow helps keep your torso upright. Great video. I love the commentary.
Having more active hands in front is the biggest thing for me, but I'll definitely need to also keep working on that internal hip rotation to get a wider flare. I'm totally not thinking enough about engaging my core which leads to hinging too much or slumping at my torso. Appreciate the critique and the kind words about the video! Excited to look back at this footage towards the end of the season and hopefully see a noticeable improvement.
@@DSCIGaming I found you on Reddit too after spotting that Oakville tag across your back haha, small world. But like you said in your comment, at about 6:30, your glove was a bit to your side. I find it easier to catch when the gloves are projected in front vs. the side. On the 3-1 goal, you track the puck nicely with your head but your torso didn't follow because your hands weren't projected in front so as you rotated, your blocker arm was left behind you and also prevented you from turning. I find following with your head and then turning your arms and torso, almost locking your elbows and turning with your core, is the best way to move more efficiently. Dunno if I described that very well though lol. Still though, on a bang bang play, almost had it! Overall, good job keeping your team in it, and loving the commentary. What kind of GoPro and mic are you using to record? It looks sharp! Keep it up!
@@xs8002 Absolutely going to be making hands in front my main focus next game, followed by better rotation, thank you! I'm using a GoPro Hero 10 Black for the video and a Zoom F2 on the ice for my mic/recorder. When I edit the videos, I narrate using a Shure SM57.
@@xs8002 I use a suction cup mount and have been putting it on the outside of the glass because I'm concerned it will get hit. I might try inside the glass for a clearer picture, but I'll need to get a protective case for it first.
Not your fault on the first goal. None of the forwards helped out on defense. None of them backchecked. No chance on #3 either. Good job! I played defense in HS and on a college practice squad and in numerous leagues. Your defensemen need to stop staring at the puck and watch where the opponent players are around the net. Your forwards need to backcheck more aggressively. If you fix those two things, you'll win some games. Good luck.
Thanks! I feel like we always think we can stop every shot but some are definitely pretty tough haha. It's a pretty low-level so can't get too bent out of shape over systems. Most guys at this level have played lower-end travel at best.
Glad to find a goalie cam done by a normal guy! A lot of them are impossible to watch..appreciate your commentary, humble attitude etc. Keep it up!
I don't know if normal is an adjective I'd use for myself, but thanks for the kind words haha - glad you enjoyed it!
this is D League 😳? Jesus its like 2 levels of skill above what we have as D League in North Carolina
Lol just wait till you see the "E league" I'm playing in.

Not at all weird haha. I put some time into designing it to mimic the Sportsnet bug, so I'm glad you noticed!
This is D league? Seems pretty advanced for that. Where are you?

Great commentary! Keep up the good work! I’m thinking of doing the GoPro thing aswell, so I can see how I can improve during games. Cheers
Thanks! It's such a great tool to be able to review footage. Holler if you post and want me to check it out!
Welcome back on the ice! You're better than me, you made some good saves! I'm a goalie in a geezer league in northern Michigan 😅
Hah, thanks! I look forward to joining the Geezer League in due time 😁
@@DSCIGaming any tips for going down in the butterfly? My legs keep going under me
@@booman3138 check out some UA-cam videos on internal hip rotation and that should help!
@@DSCIGaming thanks
If I wanted to join a D league and I haven’t ever played before would I be good enough to play? How can I practice
I'd recommend going for power skating lessons first and hockey lessons if offered in your area.

Haha, Oakville, Ontario. Why? Is this better or worse than you expected?
Pretty dang good for a D league game lol
