Thank you lovely Eugenia, for your information about Epiphany. As a child in the Ukrainian Orthodox church of Canada, Edmonton, I had never heard of jumping into freezing lakes. Rather, we blessed water in the church with candles at a special service and took the water home (in jars)to keep us healthy. It was only after the fall of the Soviet Union that some Ukrainians in Canada came to believe that the tradition of jumping into freezing lakes was old Ukrainian tradition... because they did it in Ukraine. I appreciate you clarifying history! Love and hugs to you. Stay safe, keep healthy💛💙✨️
Hi Eugenia another intresting video intresting to hear about these traditions ,the olny time people plunge in to the icy sea is on new years day, but not for religeon mosty for charity swim ,hope your felling better, always happy to suport you, love to you and your family ,hi to you mum and granma sending them my love 🙏 ,keep warm, safe and take care🤗💙💛
here it's not related to Epiphany, but there are Polar Bear dips occuring during the last weeks of December into January that are in various towns and cities to raise money for different causes...thank you for sharing
Thanks for the video, Eugenia. I think we all eat unhealthy this time of year. There's just too much cakes, cookies , and candies around. It messes me up too. There isn't any Epiphany plunging happening here, at least not that I know of. I hope you feel better soon.
Another interesting video Eugenia, we have some people in the UK who on News Years day take a plunge in the freezing sea. As you say it can be bad for you as the freezing cold water shocks the body, also you could suffer hypothermia. Please look after your health first, and don't worry about you appearance, you look good without makeup. May I wish you and your family a Happy new year 💙💛🇺🇦🏴
You are a very Nice young lady, dont t mention Little things in your appearance because they are not important. I like your videos, the well structured messages and your mastering of english! My heart goes to You and the ukrainian plight! Best wishes from Romania!
Thank you Jane. To me you look just fine without makeup or ice crystals in your hair. Here in south Texas we rarely have ice in our rivers or in the bays or Gulf of Mexico waters. But there are some people who do go wade out into the cold water on New Year's Day. They call it a polar bear swim. They have no idea. I don't think it's a religious thing. Maybe for some it is but it seems that many do it on a dare or a bet. Personally, I'd rather cleanse my skin in a hot tub. I''ll pray for God to cleanse my soul. And I hope the medics who attend such occasions will be safe from harm. I'll keep the heater going in the ambulance.
So interesting! Like your video on the traditional Ukrainian xmas tree (I forget the name), I'm fascinated & amazed that some pre-Christian traditions survive, but I understand that it doesn't mean people following them are pagans or not Christian. Anglo-Aussies like me don't have any traditions like that, or any connection to our cultural heritage, but we're lucky to live in a beautiful & safe country, & I can enjoy learning about other people's traditions. Also, sorry to hear you have OCD- I have family & friends with it, & I have bipolar, anxiety disorder & ADHD, so I can sympathise, & I hope it improves. 💜🤗🌈
Hello Eugenia 😊, great seeing you again, this time with another great video on the tradition of renewing baptismal vows on Epiphany. Great tradition but not at -8°C which is what I experienced this year. Take care and stay safe and happy and warm and keep smiling. With love and best wishes to you and your loved ones. Allan x. 1) You look beautiful. I wish that I look that good when I get sick. 2) I used to get really bad acne and sick on my stomach all the time, and then I found out that I have Celiac disease. I’m allergic to dairy too. It was discouraging at first, but I was really happy to find out about it once I stopped getting so sick. I’m not sure if you are interested in testing for food allergies, but if you do then it is just a blood test. I could give you endless more health ideas but I know it’s often not helpful. At least you know you’re not alone though. I hope you feel all the way better, but at least you still look really great. Don’t listen to the haters. They lie.
Nice educational video that puts things in context. That Epiphany as a sort of tradition I'm not sure anyone here practices. From what I could find, the first club of winter swimmers was formed in the 1920s in Prague. Their main event, called ‘Memoriál Alfreda Nikodéma’ in honor of the man who founded the club, takes place on the 26th of December. To me it seems like they just mixed everything they thought was useful for propaganda, since the slogan ’In a healthy body there is a healthy spirit‘ is just a paraphrase of ‘Mens sana in corpore sano’ by Decimus Junius Juvenalis from the 2nd century AD.
We here in Finland, and our neighbours Sweden and Norway do this 'ice-dipping' too. And they are usually healthy fat and very vicely-old. With old skinn and fat-belly. Just perfect ppl 😂
I enjoyed the Christian message and explanation. That was nice. But I still think you are doing this to avoid a classic Ukrainian tradition. Do you have an allergy to water? Maybe soap too, eh? I hope you are feeling better. For the holidays or when there is a lot of eating involved, I will drink inordinate amounts of ginger ale to let that calm my stomach and the effect a relatives cooking has on me. Maybe you should try drinking that? Put some ice in it, then you would be sharing some of your friends Epiphany celebrations. Thank you for this. Hope your Mom is well.
You know you are beautiful^^ Slava Ukraine Glory to heroes like you! Edit. Winter bathing is quite normal here, I do it daily. It is good for the body.
Hi Jane, I so appreciate the natural person you are.. for being a brave and proud Christian 🤍.. and this makes you quit unique ! Stay safe and I hope you will gmfeel better soon. I did not comment on birthday but want to say I hope you will be blessed with what you need this year.... 🙏🏻🎉💙💛🌻🫂🙏🏻🤍🕊
Ukrainian customs and traditions are cool... and Eugenia still looks cute without make-up
Take care Eugenia
Thank you
It's important to do this safely.
River currents are no joke, especially if there is ice blocking the surface.
Thank you for regularly sharing Ukrainian traditions with us, Eugenia.
