I always loved the King Geedorah persona the most out of any of DOOM's personas since I'm huge kaiju fan. Whenever I'd go over to grandma's apartment as a kid, there was this stack of DVDs that mostly consisted of 60's samurai flicks, Shaw Brothers/Golden Harvest martial arts films, and showa era japanese monster movies (my grandma is of japanese decent so those were the movies she gravetated to). I always loved it when DOOM would reference "nerdy" stuff in his lyrics or personas, whether it be Marvel cartoons, or a Star Trek reference, or a sample from an old kaiju film, that's what got me into his albums when I was in middle school, to which I'm still a fan today.
My favourite is Viktor Vaughn. I love the weird mix of an awkward, nerdy kid flipping needing to be a gangster during his transition to becoming a true villain.
My fav character is prob Viktor Vaughn. While he's younger than DOOM, his record sounds a lot darker, aesthetic wise, than any MF DOOM album, the impression I have with that material is that it's fresh and unique. I prefer Madvillainy overall but Vik is a pretty well developed character thanks to Vaudeville Villain.
@@professionalmemeenthusiast2117 I already did! It's a decent record but can't hold a candle to Vik's performance on Vaudeville Villain. Worth the check for sure.
Firstly, this is a great breakdown! Secondly, MF DOOM is one of the most important Hip Hop artists that's ever lived. His contribution to the culture will only be recognised in full, when in 20 years, we're still talking about him. Absolute legend. One of the best ever!
If I had to pick one it's gonna be the main villian, MF DOOM. I also find the idea of Vaughn intriguing because he's a character that admires and looks up to DOOM but has is own separate ideas and adventures.... We need a DOOM videogame.
Another appearance of MF DOOM as King Dumile on The Jade Amulet album is worth a listening and a shout out. A killer concept album I happily revisit beginning to end every few weeks.
Great video! King Geedorah is probably my fav DOOM persona too since take me to your leader has alot of toho godzilla references and I just like king ghidorah!

There’s something so unusual about Doom’s creativity pertaining to his pseudonyms/identity’s. Appreciate your work man; it’s fans like you that got me into the legend in the first place.
aw man, amazing video! i love DOOM so much. in my opinion, his lyrical skill is unmatched and his sample choices are super cool. i love the way he crafted an entire universe of characters who each have their own styles and lore, and I really respect how he went through a lot of hard shit in his life and still came out as an icon. i always go looking 'round for his stuff in record/CD stores - i like looking for all his names and checking if any of his stuff is still in stock (usually not). love to all other fans out there! ❤

Noticed you dropped the ball on the special herbs metal fingers section as to how all the covers represent his two favorite rolling papper you mentioned his version of zig zags but missed/overlooked ( or just didn't notice) his cosplay of the Bambu rolling papers man aswell they actually made Bible paper before manufacturing rolling papers hence the urban legend of the extra blank sheet in bibles being reserved as an emergency rolling paper. The special herbs cassettes is definitely an homage to a pack of Bambu rolling papers. [Bambú became a pop culture reference during the 1970s with the release of the Cheech and Chong Big Bambu album. Since then, it has had many other musical references in pop culture by artists such as The Notorious B.I.G., Method Man, A Tribe Called Quest, and others[citation needed]. Most recently Bambú appeared on the front cover of a book Pot Culture[citation needed] Dennis Wilson's second album was titled Bambu, after the rolling papers, and was released with Pacific Ocean Blue in 2008.]
I love how he leaves it in the video "Switch topics here" just a note to himself for when hes editing but just dosent bother to take it out, I actually like it tho lmao. Also i love the commitment to all his MF DOOM content you can see rly see the love he has for making them with it being 80pct of his channel. Keep it up man.
Talking about specific references and lines from the songs, without playing a clip from the song or showing the lyrics, makes for a very frustrating watch. I was really hoping to hear the different personas juxtaposed. Good breakdown other than that.
I just want to say that I have never once took the time to leave a comment on a video and I can’t help but leave one here explaining how flabbergasted I am that there is such a deep history to DOOMS career. I love this video. Will watch again.
King Geedorah makes a Couple More Appearances after 2003. CX Kidtronik and King Geedorah drop a Single on stonetrow Records titled Wild Kingdom in 2011. For the 2016 Reissue of King Geedorah, MF DOOM did a radio mix on Solid Steel where there was a King Geedorah remix to the JJ DOOM track Banished. There are also unreleased songs produced by DOOM in that mix.
DOOM's been in my orbit for years, I'm taking the time to get to know him. But the classic marvel, toho with his characters and the Jojo + bebop music tells me about the audience
Thanks for getting me into MF DOOM, I had heard about him before but didn't listen until now. I didn't even know about all of these different personas so I clearly have more stuff to go through.
Great breakdown! I tried to get DOOM on my last album The 38th Expansion but his management was charging an exorbitant amount for a feature. He sadly passed away about 5 months later.
Back in 1994, DOOM shopped around the Operation Doomsday demo, there’s a lot of demos that you can find of songs off the album, where he still sounds young like Zev. My favorites being the Gas Drawls, and Operation Greenbacks. Which is LIKELY why King Geedorah was listed, and mentioned in the Operation Doomsday album, he’d already had the moniker for quite some time.
Metal Fingaz was my personal favorite after I listened to Licorice. I have all 10 of the special herbs and spices in my work playlist so not a day goes by without at least one MF pick-me-up.

An interesting note is originally King Ghidra was supposed to rap "in threes" as Dumile put it in an early interview. "In that particular style I was using, I was the character King Ghidra, from Monster Island. He's a three-headed dragon, so on one of his styles is the parables of three, like flippin verses in parables of three, and using things like three syllables. So I also said "notice the parables of three in every other inference." Like when I said, "Choose your weapon, microphone, beats or the wheel of steel" or "in your Polo, Nautica, or Donna K for men." in that verse, it's always three. Even in the first verse, the three hoes, like which one you want, this, that or that ho. "I'll probably run up in all three", know what I'm sayin? I'm talking about TLC."
Turn into a triple X monster from a fairy tale movie! He don't know me very well do he? Rest in power to Dumile, excellent video man...and happy new year!
