this loading system is a variation of the loading system used by old battleships; a split, swinging feed chute and a chain drive to push the shell and bagged charge into the breech. You can see it in action in the videos of battleship turret operations. It works flawlessly, as long as it is kept maintained. The failure point was the ejection system, which was supposed to eject the used cartridge case out of a small hatch at the back of the turret and it didnt always work, so the crew could get a case ricochetting around inside the turret. Western autoloaders tend to use pneumatic or hydraulic drives to get the shell loaded, which requires compressed gases or hydraulic fluid under pressure. A chain drive is a lot simpler.
They are not like that
@@Amen-Magi ... Then how are they like...??? Please elaborate
"works flawlessly" yea if you want to fire shells with a stupid long reload time then Chain drives are your go to. Battleships use it for the sheer size of the shells period. Not a good idea to cram this design into a tank.

The russian turret ring autoloader is pretty good, and has good ammo capacity for an autoloader. With the ammo being stored in the tank and not the turret, the turret itself can also be made smaller. The issues are that ammo is very hard to access if the loader breaks down, and it occupies a lot of space in the tank as well as not being stored in blowout compartments like on a type 90 or abrams. Also, because of the folding loader arm the ammo HAS TO be 2 piece instead of normal brass rounds
Um no the auto loader is in the turret along with the ammo, that's why the turret blows off the hull after a good hit. Reason it's smaller is cause you don't need room for one extra man loading the gun.
@Alec Ver Bunker it's in the turret basket, which is low down in the hull.
@@seemslegit6203 that makes the hull more explosive
@@alec4672 no it's not in the turret, it's in the hull
@Insira seu nome aqui Actually not all of the time, most of the time whenever those tanks are hit by rounds of any kind it takes quite a bit for the ammunition to burn and explode. Crew makes it out by the time it explodes

i see cool war thunder proffice pic
Yeah he's turned in to TANK
At first I thought, “This thing sure takes long enough,” but then it’s clear that this is is about uploading the magazine, not loading the gun. Anyway, the mechanism in the confines of the tank looks like it’s first priority is ripping the gunner’s arm off, and then maybe loading the gun. With his arm.
Accidents related to this style of autoloader are extremely rare, as in only a handful of accidents have ever happened within the Soviet/Russian Army.
You will never lose your arm to an autoloader if you dont put your hand in it. Early version of autoloader in T-64 had these kind of incident but quickly fixed. So today, very rare if not impossible to lose your arm to an autoloader

@@Streloski still blow up in conventional wars
@@pianomaster696 If tank gets penetrated, spalling from modern APFSDS rounds or ATGM will get everyone inside. It does not matter if there is ammo cookoff or not. You only think this is bad because you have a flashy visual to confirm a bias.
Also the ammo cookoffs in Ukraine aren't because of rounds hitting the autoloader but because crew don't have a place to store extra ammo, so they store it around the turret ( statistically the most likely place to get hit) which is why you see the new T90s with a rear ammo compartment with blast doors.

Pros:Faster ammunition loading, (That's it)
Cons: Since the autoloader literally takes a lot of space in the tank and When hit by an A-T there's a huge chances it will hit the ammunition cache, The explosion is enough to blow apart the turret from the Tank's hull and obliterate the entire tank crew.
A few more pros, smaller turret, one less crew member, the ammo isn’t stowed in the turret, so if you only expose the turret to fire your ammo should be safe
tank crew:
pros: big metal hehe
cons: atomisation at any given moment
Yeah it's really not a good system but it keeps the tank small and isn't that complex or expensive. Russian tanks are meant to be small and mass produced, and in doing so they are expendable. Russians have always done quantity over quality with their military vehicles. It's kind of a, "Let's hope you don't get hit and if you do your armor bounces it."
