@@bankruptpensioner yep. Delicious part. No moving at all, quite lightweight, and fits the Monster 1200 organic style 🥰. Thanks for the review. Happy miles!

I loved my Shad top box, because I could leave the key in the ignition switch and go back and open and close it without the key. It is much more convenient. And I locked it with the key just when parked.
All top boxes should work like this.
On a modern bike with android auto (Honda NT1100) it sucks to reboot the system and pairing everything again every time I need something from the box.

Good points Victor - yes, I would be better if the top box just shut and could be locked when required. Good point 👍

The variety of textures in the kislux pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.

i purchased Givi from Italy yes it was cheaper but got stung for 20% vat on import
before delivery was made so no real saving in the end. product was great so no worries.

That is interesting Mark, the owner of this Maxia did not get charged import duties - which I thought was interesting. Still, I assume you did you pay over £400 as some advertise on eBay etc 👍

I have a house in France which avoids the 20% VAT and Import charges problem. However the Italian dealer charges more than the UK price of £200 ish. Still a small saving tho.

stupid idea the closure without the key and locking it to the plate from inside with the lock at the bottom.
    thanks for the review

I just bought a fake luxrul and I love the fact that I didn't have to spend 3-4k on it. Yes, it's beautiful, but it's just a bag and no one cares if it's real or fake. I have a lot of real stuff that no one cares about.

I love and hate my Givi top box. I wasn't going to buy one but it came free on my current bike. I hate the look of it and leave it off most of the time. But every now and then I need to carry something and love it when I do.

That is the beauty, they can easily be removed to give a cleaner look - but - when you need something for work or a long days ride, they do come in use. And every other bike has one now 👍

Totally agree they do look bloody ugly on a bike until you add other luggage like side cases tents and other stuff then it all blends in but I would take it off for general riding around so it just serves a purpose take care richard

I have a proper Givi box on one motorcycle cost about 90 quid , & a cheapo Lextec one of a similar size on a little Honda Innova that cost under 30 quid . The Givi one is certainly not 60 quid better & both top cases , & mounting pads are made of the same material & probably manufactured & sourced in the same Chinese factory . A top case is not meant to look pretty nor be loaded with more than a couple of Kgs in weight , always remembering to include the weight of the mounting plate & top case ,in the total max top case carrying case . It’s also to be noted that the any rear rack that’s fitted either factory or aftermarket , has a max load capacity that exceeds the combined weight of top case , mounting plate & swag loaded into it , as some are designed only to take about 3 kgs . Also nowt wrong with second hand boxes , if they are un damaged & in serviceable nick . New locks can usually be easily got & fitted , although any metal or plastic top case or pannier , can be forced open by thieves in seconds . I tend to fit a clip on & off top case & add extra soft luggage when needed . I reckon hard panniers make a bike look like a barge on wheels & restrict filtering in tight city traffic . 👍

Hi Clive, good point 👍. Yes, the kappa stuff is lighter grade materials and great for smaller bikes - then again, what is a smaller bike? 😆

Top cases do look ugly when fitted on their own but do blend in more when side panniers are fitted. I find a top case extremely useful to carry waterproofs, my lunch, camera etc. Back in the 70s and 80s top cases weren't so stylish, I had a "Tower" branded topbox what was made from fibreglass and everything you put in it came out smelling of fibreglass! In the 80's/90s Rickman did a series of polyboxes and some basic panniers available in either black or white, none of these were removable. Krauser were one of the first with removable panniers that were a little more stylish.

    • @bankruptpensioner
      @bankruptpensioner  4 місяці тому

Great history story Mr Hackenbacker 👍, we used to call them hat boxes if I remember. Those white fibreglass boxes were a long time ago. Krauser, long time since I heard that name 👍. How the world has changed with regard top boxes and panniers. We have never had it so good 😆

@@bankruptpensioner We used to call the plastic Rickman type butty boxes. They were seen on Honda c90 , CG 125 & Benly rear racks , & actually used to carry riders butty’s to work. Unlike the clip on removable givi type boxes , there was less chance of them flying off on the main drag .

You probably should have mentioned that the Givi Monolock and Monokey systems use different mounting methods so are not directly interchangeable (without purchasing specific mounting plates) Top boxes are horrible looking but so useful and reasonably secure. Givi Monolock was the cheaper commuter/scooter range and Give Monokey the more expensive/robust touring kit originally, although the two ranges are more overlapped now and Givi make 'OEM branded' equipment for a number of manufactures. I think the 400x would fit in the maxima on the back of the T120 😂

Hi Mark, I have ordered the new Maxia for a garage for the 400x. It's bloody ginormous 😆. Neither are clean looks but they serve a great purpose - just like the missus 😆
