    I looked for an alternate about a year ago, and stumbled upon Cinema P3. Underrated in my opinion. Good to see more and more people using it. Support the developers, pay for the full version.

    I've been requesting a video like this for the longest. THANKS FOR THIS!!!! I heard Moment's log is more of a de-saturated LOOK as compared to a real LOG.

      Happy to help! : ) Yeah Moment's Log is quite bizarre. Doesn't seem to make any noticeable difference to my eyes.

    Thank you. I've not done this sort of test on my CinemaP3. But I regularly use C Log 10 Bit graded in Lumafusion and adjusted for my personal taste.
    I'm continually impressed with CP3

    Another banger of a video Rob! And very thorough tests that all of us can appreciate. Just a question: were you using deLog conversion LUTs (Filmic, CP3, and Protake have their own) or just correcting it manually?

    Been using the Moment app for a while and also found not much of a difference between the final results VS the footage I get from the phone itself. It does give bit more control over the camera in general. Will give Cinema P# a go and see how that compares for me. Thanks for this compassion! Good job.

    Question slightly off topic, do you know how well Filmic Pro integrates with Samsung S23/ S24 ultras? Thinking of making the switch but I think I phone's camera API is more developed for by 3rd party devs?

  • @admweer
    @admweer 5 місяців тому

    man, you should explose properly for correct comparison bit don't use similar settings. one thing that your experiment says- protake log shifted towards highlight details (and save more shadows) and cinema p3 - to shadows (save more highlights)
    and also those apps have different log settings 😊

    Love Protake but can’t get it to record to an external ssd drive (Samsung T5). In the settings under the Record tab external is greyed out. I set the phone to record Apple prores log, I have an iPhone 15 pro max. Can’t find any support online or any videos about this annoying issue. Does anyone here have the same issue? I wish the Blackmagic iPhone app and cinema P3 apps supported wireless monitoring like Protake on a second device.

    Hi! Enjoyed watching the video.
    I just am curious if the Cinema p3 app offers an option for turning off the HDR video processing as it sometimes mashes up the skin details and does not look cinematic. And If I use Log on Cinema p3, can I get rid of iphone’s oversharpened video?

    • @SmartphoneFilmmaker
      @SmartphoneFilmmaker  Рік тому

      Thank you! As far as I am aware there's no option to turn HDR off however the developer is very responsive to feedback if you grab his email from the blackburn apps website. Log will give you better dynamic range however you'd need something like a Moment Cinebloom filter (I use 10% strength) to get a softer image. Iphones for some reason don't get the option of turning image sharpness off which is annoying.

    Thanks for the video. Very nice. I was wondering if you could do a video comparing the different Log profiles within CinemaP3? DLog is supposedly better for details in the highlights, and Clog is better for the shadows. I that actually true? Also, CinemaP3 lets you choose the saturation level in each log profile. Does it make any sense to either decrease or increase the saturation when recording in Log? If so, what are the circumstances one would decrease or increase the saturation? Thanks.

    • @SmartphoneFilmmaker
      @SmartphoneFilmmaker  Рік тому

      Thank you! As I have the iphone 12 I cannot test all the different Log levels unfortunately. I personally would de-saturate to the maximum level for the best dynamic range in post. Otherwise to me you may as well film in normal profile.

    I've been testing Filmic Legacy log V2, unless it's a really bright sunny day , I get a lot of noise in dark areas. Also I find my self over compensating for the flat color and shooting 'darker' to make sure the whites are not blown out. It's a lot less hassle to film with flat and I find I'm more accurate with my ISO settings, with less highlights blown out. Any tips fro shooting in log, I often feel like I'm going in blind as all the colour won't be seen until post production?

    • @SmartphoneFilmmaker
      @SmartphoneFilmmaker  10 місяців тому

      To be honest I have the same issues. I generally ended up filming in flat profile if not using the natural profile.

    • @threethievesmusic
      @threethievesmusic 9 місяців тому

      It's a trade off between dynamic range for
      extra noise. However I am using an iPhone 11pro max, be keen to see what Apple log on the15 can offer? @@SmartphoneFilmmaker

    Is it possible to color grade Cinema P3 A-log 8 bit SDR footage with "Dehancer Pro OFX" in premiere pro, if possible where can I find a tutorial or can you do one about it.

    • @SmartphoneFilmmaker
      @SmartphoneFilmmaker  Рік тому

      I would imagine it is possible but 8 bit is tricky to colour grade and maybe correct as you have less colour range to play with. I'd search in youtube how to colour grade 8 bit footage with dehancer pro OFX and hopefully someone has made that very video.
