I just bought the IronRidge system and looking forward to installing it over the next couple of weeks. I really think it is worth a little extra cash to go with a code compliant system that will protect your solar investment and your home.
After watching this channel for over a year and as an engineer by profession I have to say it: Hands down, this is the very best home solar energy channel on YT.
How do you verify that the T-bolt head is seated properly, and keep it from spinning the wrong way when back-ratcheting? I've seen many installers neglect to properly seat the clamps in the rail. The T-bolts usually have a strike on their tip to indicate the alignment, but now you cannot see the strike when the female fastener element covers view of the tip.
Rather than clamping, people will often bolt to a bottom mounted bracket like these, www.altestore.com/store/solar-panel-mounts/rv-specialty-solar-panel-mounts/sunwize-rv-mounting-feet-flush-mount-kit-p10161/ . But keep in mind, most roof top systems are designed for over 100MPH winds, so you better not be driving an RV faster than that ;)
fellow Tuber did their maiden voyage in their converted school bus and had a panel loosen from the rail and shatter from something like 30 mph wind shear. Ok, turns out that I’m really a misogynist. I almost didn’t click this video because the thumbnail is a woman but after watching useless video after useless video, I clicked this one out of desperation and I have to say that Amy did a top notch job. Great work! Just about everything I wanted to learn and not 5 minutes of pimping your store and or youtube channel. (Hint to other youtubers, pimping your channel for 5 min of a 8 min video isn’t going to get me to subscribe, it’s just annoying) One question though, how did you connect the 3R box to the rail. Could you cover that in another video? *subscribed*
Thanks for your comment. Our goal is to teach stuff, and if you buy it from us, we appreciate it. I used standard stainless steel bolts to attach the box, sliding the head of the bolt in the top rail slot. Then attached the nuts inside the box. I'll try to at least get a photo next week.

We are in need of 4.7 trillion dollars of infrastructure repairs needed according to one engineering report said that is just repairs ? ! NOT UPGRADES ! ? And what I like to tell SHEEPLE is just look at a Google earth map and look at how many rooftops simply do NOTHING but radiate heat and loose energy . And if just half of all rooftops had solar power they would be generating a gigantic amount of power . Thanks .
I think the cost difference is small considering that this will insure each panel is grounded, I notice that some dyi's ignore grounding the frames of the panels. boo
I agree. When you start to add up the material to build something from scratch, it often ends up with an inferior solution that costs almost as much as a good grounded racking system.

My panels are 28.75mm thick. Would I use athe 30mm mid clamps?

when people mount solar panels on their roof of their RV, do they need a special clamp to withstand the high winds that con be experienced?

Ironridge has always had that splice design. Finally they have tested it to cease requiring the splice joint jumper.
