Everyone talking about the chicken sidequest, nobody talking about that old lady absolutely chewing the scenery from start to finish. That actress studied how to play an old lady, said "fuck it" and just went to town on every stereotypical old woman trope there is
I love the chicken quest. It’s basically entirely designed as a prank against the player. Make a quest with mechanics just annoying enough to get through, set up a daunting task, relief when you don’t actually have to do it, then the punchline after all that effort the player put into finishing it. Masterful trolling.
The writing for the chicken sidequest was absolutely inspired. Easily my favorite in the game, regardless of any conflicted feelings it might have to offer.
33:40 I love how Cloud kinda whispered the "now", he doesn't get a lot of moments of character in his voice like that so even a little moment like that is so nice
One thing I really do appreciate about the Remake project being able to flesh out characters. We already saw in Remake part 1 how Zack’s influence in Sector 5 had the kids carrying cardboard buster swords. And now we see his lasting influence on his home village. It’s so nice. Absolutely love it. :>
The going rate for dog work is 6 treats, 4 belly rubs, and at least 9 scritches behind the ears. These are the minimums set by the Dog Union and higher pay is expressly wanted
I think this is the fourth time Red gets to eat in this game, and it has been meat every time, it's a little weird he's so conflicted about it this time 😅 I guess he doesn't usually talk to the food before it's cooked, most people don't. And finally someone else got to eat too! Good for you, Cloud :)
It's also the fact he didn't expect that he'd be bringing them to their death, lol. He thought he was returning a beloved pet to the caring owner. Not sending them to the butcher. Different attitude
It was a very good choice to finish the Yuffie quest in Gongaga now. It becomes a complete pain in the ass to finish later if you forget about it as all the enemies die too quick to meet the conditions of the fights, as I learned the hard way.
Switching to Dynamic difficulty fixes that problem; it makes it so that all enemies 4+ levels lower than Cloud's level are scaled up to 3 levels lower than Cloud's level. This makes fights with victory conditions much easier as it gives the enemies more durability.
12:27 just realized another thing Cloud and Sora have in common: riding plushylike creatures while smacking monsters with swords 19:28 lowkey thought those chickens were going to be named pippity poppity and poo but a chicken being named peepy is still pretty funny

"We got demoted. that happened fast." wdym? You DID say "No can do." so you weren't his teacher to begin with. If anything it was an upgrade, becoming Yuffie's 2nd disciple.
I am a little disapointed they made such an interesting side mission and never explained it properly. The adaptive triggers play heavily but they were probably thinking forward in not explaining the "PS5 adaptive triggers" when explaining the game because they likely wont be in further versions.
I don’t think it’s that deep (you can use the DualSense on computers). The people making this trilogy just aren’t that good at explaining things in my experience.
Oh, did you not have adaptive triggers turned on? The mushroom mini game is an adaptive triggers minigame. You gage pliability by lightly squeezing the triggers and feeling how much they resist
Wait. That’s how you do it? I mostly did it visually and succeeded through trial and error afterwords. Good to know for my redo (I messed up on the salt bc I didn’t see where the additional areas were for it lol).
I think Dan does usually have adaptive triggers on, I was guessing they must be doing something with that, but the instructions don't seem to make that clear in the slightest that you can feel with the triggers
@@firenter it's true that the instructions don't mention it directly, but like... you have to squeeze the triggers as part of the minigame. I'm gonna get this game whenever it launches on PC/Steam but I have only very basic controller (Logitech F310 to be exact). Should I upgrade/get new controller with adaptive triggers and buttons just for the minigames? I've been hugely enjoying Dan's playthrough and I did pick up the Remake just because of this channel.
These minigames will probably be tweaked for other platforms (using rumble and clearer visual cues, instead of just the triggers), so adaptive triggers might not be a requirement. But a better (and possible more comfortable) controller might not be a bad idea on the long term
I absolutely adore the sudden tone shift at the end of the chicken quest. Quirky and wholesome and then BAM.

To be fair, Red has been paid in "Getting freed from Hojo's lab" and he's in charge of how long he helps, so...
