Great tips! 1 add-on.... Take a new guy with you , expose someone new to this sport so we can keep this sport alive. Not all of us had Dads or Grandpas teach us this stuff so I feel its up to us to pass this joy along, every new hunter supports all of us and the companies that make our gear. Sure we all have said " damn there's to many guys out here" but we all had that FIRST HUNT!!
I like that you mention you’re self taught because that’s exactly how I am right now. This is only my second year hunting. I picked it up myself because my dad or grandpa never hunt, only fish. So your videos with tips and advice are awesome for me and I hope I can spread this info to someone else down the line who are in our shoes
Biggest tip I have from years of dove hunting is to have a cooler for the doves. Like you said, it’s 90deg plus. You don’t want your birds stuffed in a game bag getting hot sitting in the heat until you get done shooting. After you shoot a few toss them in your ice chest. Of course follow game regulations on tagging and possession. Even better is to quickly breast them out and pop them in there. It makes the meat so much better if you cool them off asap. I usually have an ice chest in back of side by side. With drinks in it and a grocery sack or two for the doves. I’ve used a separate small ice chest with a frozen 2 liter bottle in it as well. Number 2 is motion. When mojo doves came out I thought what a marketing scheme. But I broke down and bought one. Took it to public field and it worked! They would come straight to me from far away. Now I use a few and flock flickers on the ground. Sometimes it really helps to get them to veer towards you and not your buddy a few hundred yards away!
yea that why ill only shoot one at a time if they are in a hard to find field, almost impossible to mark two unless you want to waste a bunch of time looking for your second one.
You mentioned dirt piles, ive had luck around giant ant hills pecking at the small rocks. And at the silage pits before they cover them. And definitely dont be shy to use decoys I use the mojo dove flappers and flickers withbrhe dove tree and I bag out in an hour
Love the tips! We are spoiled with a cut silage field right next to a gravel pit. Food, gravel, and water all within 400 yards. Shot a 4 man limit on Sept 1 and Sept 5!
You need to get out and do some pigeon hunting in the summer. It tuned us in for upcoming dove season and as you said it’s an awesome time with friends. Dove decoys a couple duck mojos and your golden we had an absolute blast this summer
My two biggest things I notice on opening day is spacing between hunters. I like to have 35-40yards between me and the people on each side. That way we can cover the 20yds each way but not be right on top of each other. Also know where the other hunters are at especially on the other side of the field so you are not peppering someone on the other side of field. I follow the sky behind the barrel rule and it is the best method to prevent the peppering I found.
Great video as always but just to point out on number 8 when you recommend bringing alot of shells just remember if you are hunting public dove fields at least in the state of south Carolina there is a 50 shell limit per person. Always check local laws before going out opening day. Keep up the great content
Good video! You should make a goose calling tutorial for all us up here that has early goose instead of dove or teal. I know you made on a couple years or so back but you should make a new one.
Your first tip happened to me I shot a bird, straight at me 11 year old kid with a brand new Beretta over and under shot in my direction if I didn't hit the ground the shot would have hit me square in the face and probably be dead. Let's just say 5 game wardens with their lights on came flying up the field took both of them away banned them from the Wildlife Management Area i hunt on. Very scary
Another great video mate, nice work. Cheers for sharing what you have learnt and encouraging others to do so also, it helps a waterfoul/bird newbie like me a lot. I have the interest but none of my mates or anyone I know can show me how to do it properly. I love it when I come across someone that is willing to pass on a few tips to help me get started out, it is always greatly appreciated. Even though we are hunting half a world away from each other, a lot of the information and tips in your videos works the same or similar here in Australia (which is great for me). Cheers 😎👍👌👏👏👏
Work the area to your advantage. If you see a particular flight pattern move your position to where it benefits from your favorite type of shot and your bird to shell ratio
U.O.F OUTDOORS Thanks for answering my question. The reason I named those were because that is all I’ve got( except for 15 goose decoys). I have never been waterfowl hunting before but my Dad and I are going on two local guided waterfowl hunts this year.
Great video you covered all the basics and then some if you're hunting with a first-timer or younger Hunter keep an eye on them and that help them identify doves versus sparrow hawks also you're never too old to learn a new trick
U can put the decoy over the line with the fishing pole it is 100% safe been doing it all my life and works better for doves than the mojo in my opinion
Biggest thing I could add to this is find the natural funnel point in the field. Where the birds enter to where they go. 90% of the time, the birds will have a roost tree which they fly from and they'll make a somewhat consistent route through the field(until someone turns them into a feather duster). BE THE FIRST SHOOTER ON THE FUNNEL. If you're the last of 5 guys to be taking a shot every time, you're gonna have a rough day.
A battery operated "mojo voodoo" dove does wonders I have one it was maybe $50 at Wal-Mart, it adds movement and keeps you mostly out of the spot light they are more fixed on the mojo
Duck season is coming up for teal and wood duck and this will be my first time hunting ducks, first year hunting in general. I was told by some local hunters here in florida that where im going its best to walk through the marsh miday and try to jump shoot. I have a few spots for the early morning that look decent but do you have any advice for jump shooting. I dont have a boat, im just walking in waiders.
quick question for everyone...is there a time of day when scouting doves is best? Do you scout them in the morning and in dusk like waterfowl ? Or does just anytime of the day work? Thanks!
Tip: clean up after yourself. If you're moving around pick up your spent shells and birds as you go. Have a multipocket vest with pockets for birds, shells, and trash.
A four pack isn't 20-25....because honestly you wanna being hi brass heavy shot...preferably 1 1/4 ounce 7.5-8 that way you can shoot much farther if need be. Swing through the bird at distance... depending on distance sometimes leading the bird up to six feet
libs that think hunting is wrong, while they eat cheese burgers and porkchops. we are murdering animals, but what they cant see on the kill floor is okay with them. long story short. dumbasses dislike videos like this.
**FIRST TIME DOVE HUNTERS**Make sure there is no limit to the amount of shells you can have in your possession on the property you are hunting. Where I hunt you can only have 4 box’s on you. Don’t forget to check and make sure if you need a plug in your gun or not. It’s open season for CO’s to bust people not doing it right.Ignorance is not bliss!
With all the rains this Spring, no public Dove fields got planted, and the Waterfowl areas did not get planted...Going to be a rough season for us....Good video though!

Great tips. You are spot on. I am 52 and as a kid my Dad taught me everything you are saying today. Funny how things don't change. Great Job!!!
Only thing that has changed is the ammo prices 😂
@@andersonsmith953 💀
can you do a video on packing in for duck hunts? like essentials for what you bring for those hunting where you need to pack in far.
Pick up birds as you kill them.....doves are small and hard to find in a field and all sunflowers look the same. If you have a dog, even better.
yea that why ill only shoot one at a time if they are in a hard to find field, almost impossible to mark two unless you want to waste a bunch of time looking for your second one.
Yep and you can even aim till they hit the ground so you know where they land
Can not wait! One of my favorite days of the year.
You mentioned dirt piles, ive had luck around giant ant hills pecking at the small rocks. And at the silage pits before they cover them. And definitely dont be shy to use decoys I use the mojo dove flappers and flickers withbrhe dove tree and I bag out in an hour
Thank you for making this video my son is gonna love this video
My second year hunting dove, can't wait, thanj you for your videos, inspires me to hunt
Same here. Excited.
I have done the fishing pole on the power line all of my life and have never seen or heard of it ever being an issue. They come right to it as well.
Love the tips! We are spoiled with a cut silage field right next to a gravel pit. Food, gravel, and water all within 400 yards. Shot a 4 man limit on Sept 1 and Sept 5!

Great tips! Pumped for the season to start.
You inspired me to get more people to go huting!
Just got 3 more people to get their hunting licence!
Great tips dude! Only 2 weeks left.

Good information!!! I dig the rick Hahne Calls hat!!!!
I need to get a shirt!!

Fellow WEBB WMA hunter?

Thanks for the info, this is my first time going dove hunting and I need all the information you can give us.

How close was this kid? Not seeing how it would've killed you unless he was 15 yards away or less.
@@markleclair4182 about 25 yards on public land and the boy was using a full choke
@@country_boy21 Gotcha.
@@country_boy21 how would you know what kind of choke he was using?
Keep the dove vids coming!
Another great video mate, nice work.

If it flies it dies! Excited to see your videos this season.
I like to watch thies videos cause some time you just for get stuff and you need to refresh 😊
Work the area to your advantage. If you see a particular flight pattern move your position to where it benefits from your favorite type of shot and your bird to shell ratio
Putting a dove decoy on a fishing pole and throwing it over the power line works great, isn’t harmful and it looks real! Just hide the pole👍🏻
Does the decoy stay below the power line?
Enjoy your videos. Always pick up some kind of tip.
I've done a fishing pole inside of a dead tree, however be very careful around power lines, as the carbon poles are conducting electricity
Intelligent and informative video as usual. Commenters are very knowledgeable as well. U have a good channel going here!
T-11 days. I'm pumped!
T-10 days!!
Shot Clay's with my friend this week now just lookin a place to dove hunt
really enjoyed this video. positive, common sense tips.
It works did the power line decoy last year
Thanks, I hunt public land and this info helped.
Thank you much for all the tips ! New dove hunter , Alain Deroulette .
Good luck this dove season
If you find corn or peanut fields with ponds close by you’ll have a really good shoot
Would one dozen Cabela’s northern flight mallard decoys, one mojo dove and a jerk cord work for a beginner waterfowler? Nice video 👍
William Moore it most definitely will
Lynx Napalm thanks
You might also get some teal decoys to throw in too depending on where you live
U.O.F OUTDOORS Thanks for answering my question. The reason I named those were because that is all I’ve got( except for 15 goose decoys). I have never been waterfowl hunting before but my Dad and I are going on two local guided waterfowl hunts this year.
Hunt before a heavy storm. the doves fly like crazy. or just before a cool front breaks through.
Nice seeing another self taught Hunter 👏🏼
First time hunter. Going solo, starting out with dove. Next Deer first muzzle loader. Any tips...

27 on Amazon last time I checked. 😉
did. you try little lake lodge in Florida 🎉
Make sure you get your federal duck stamp this year
I got a dream dove spot by a pond and power line and across the street is a maize field

Doubled Up Waterfowl it’s better at dawn and dusk
Tip: clean up after yourself. If you're moving around pick up your spent shells and birds as you go. Have a multipocket vest with pockets for birds, shells, and trash.
Also keep in mind, at least here in Kansas, a lot of KDWPT land is non toxic shot only. Save yourself a fine and research thoroughly
Cut to in the middle of the video that is a massive sicada lmao
Where are you getting bricks for that cheap? Please tell me . My son is 11 and just start weed this year and I need shells
Not weed .
Great video...but u did not tell anything abt choke and shot siza. Thanks.
Can't bring more than a box of shells to the field at a time where I live

thx, good stuff.
Love your videos
If they’re at the tree line height that’s when you shoot
If you have access to Milo fields, scout em. Dove eat up the milo
What kind of people dislike these videos 😂
libs that think hunting is wrong, while they eat cheese burgers and porkchops. we are murdering animals, but what they cant see on the kill floor is okay with them. long story short. dumbasses dislike videos like this.
I’ve shot like four boxes of clays
Back in my days we hunted Doves with slingshots.
Any choke recommendation? Modified?
I use a modified for pretty much everything I hunt except for turkey

It going to be hot in Texas
I loved dove hunting in Texas

If you hunt with a dog, don't forget to bring water for your dog.
Yes, and dont give your dog iced water. I watched a Boykin Spaniel go into convulsions while drinking ice cold water. It was ok a few minutes later.
i wanted to watch this and noticed its a year ago today
every single one of these clips he misses the first shot, i dont wanna know how much he spends on ammo
Post your single shot shotgun hunts
Ever been dove hunting? We all miss a lot.
Don’t be over limit on shells or birds.
Yep yeeeppp
Corn fields
How are soy bean
Bug spray
Don't Dick Cheney anyone
