  • A little something I composed for a local wind band.
Performed on 2009-05-10 in Kouvola, Finland by Kymi Wind Band I. Originally premiered on 2009-03-28 by KWB I in collaboration with Kotka Youth Band in the same venue at the Finnish National Wind Instrument Day 2009 event. Both performances conducted by Aleksi Saraskari, who also plays the tambourine in this one due to lack of percussionists. Me plays the timpani. This is my first orchestral piece performed.
I personally thought I should have rewritten the parts where the clarinets and trumpets go pretty high, but the condutcor thought there's no problem with what the already were. According to him, this fits well to a youth wind band. So I learned a couple of weeks after making this what a saltarello piece should actually be like, and this is nowhere close to that. This is in 5/8 time, whereas a saltarello should be a 4/4 with layers of tuplets and straights simultaneously. 5/8 first seemed like quite a challenge for the performers, but everyone conquered it no sweat.
As the composer of this piece I ask you to comment on the piece and not the performance. :p

    I really loved this!
You should orchestrate it for full Symphony orchestra! Great work!
