I love both Otonal and Origin, as different as they are in style and mood, for the same reason - the choreography for both is so sensitive to the music, and the 'empty' parts in Origin flows with the music. Adding stuff just to make it more exciting doesn't cut it for me. It has to express the music.

For Hanyu, I say no to the gpf. Maybe nationals if it's in Jan

I'd say no to both. His health should be 100% then Worlds in Saitama.

21:32 I’ve heard talk about people like Shoma getting to a level where they’re so comfortable with quads that they can’t do triples anymore. Maybe he’s starting to go into these jumps and not feeling it about his to slow it down to the level of a triple and ends up popping them?

PJ is an awesome lady but she doesn't bring much to the conversation in terms of insight for someone of her background. E.g. Kolyada. Bad day at the office? He has been popping jumps for years. Anyone remember his performance at the team event in Korea? Some of these conversations need to be framed properly with the issues hit a bit more head-on while still being respectful.

I think she is trying to be positive but sometimes you need to be realistic. Atleast Kolyada did get that world medal last year, even if with a very mediocre free program.

Wow, I actually love Stepanova/Bukin, their FD is so contemporary, fresh, sexy, they have great chemistry and Beth's song is superb, so I have to disagree here, other than that, I like all your reviews :-)

I agree and don’t when it comes to Gracie. When I first saw her SP I did indeed find it inspiring, particularly since I myself am currently recovering from disordered eating. But then she withdrew from the FS, explaining, essentially, that the disastrous outing from the previous day was putting her progress at risk. While I found her WD courageous as well - i.e., knowing when to say No, this isn’t right for me - it also forced me to take a closer look at what TSL was saying; i.e., that, with all the love and compassion and hope we have for her as both an athlete and as a human being, a big GP event was probably not the best place to make a comeback when you’re not remotely ready. In peak physical condition she could be a very mentally vulnerable skater and crash out unexpectedly and then win the next event a few weeks later... Her many many many pops during the 2016-17 season - including at shows/EXs - made me wonder if the issue was self-consciousness and just not feeling comfortable in her own skin. And if that was the case then, a 1.5-year break, with everything she’s been through VERY publicly, knowing that ALL EYES would be on her... In the end I agree with you guys (it’s VERY courageous) *and* with TSL (it was not the smartest move, and someone on her team or in her federation should’ve insisted she do a barely-televised Senior B before attempting a GP. Regardless OF COURSE I hope to see her at Nationals. Funny, I was always such an Ashley Wagner fan and never enjoyed Gracie’s skating and often felt she was giving (PCS) marks she didn’t deserve. But since all this I - and a lot of folks, I think - have begun to root for her all the way.

We definitively should be sensitive to Gracie’s situation and decision to compete. At the same time, the USFS and the other federations, ISU have an obligation to protect the athletes. A big reason every major sport, including skating, have a preseason is to get the athletes physically and mentally ready to compete. And allowing someone to skate at a Grand Prix event with no preseason, after a long hiatus, and admitted mental health issues, is absurd and potentially dangerous. Why bother having a USFS if it can be bypassed with invitation waivers in circumstances like this? One of the adults should have pumped the brakes on this situation.
