Thanks for the great info! My family used to travel up 395 from Los Angeles to Bishop to camp and fish along the way. Used to drive by Olancha and all those places but never stopped, Now I have a reason to stop and explore. Thanks for the tour!
Thank you so very much for the fine video you have shared. This presentation has served to bring back many good memories of family trips and adventures. With gratitude, I go to bed this evening, my life a little richer.
We were out there at the end of February. Stayed in Bishop. Explored the Alabama hills. The Petroglyphs. Drove all the way around Owens lake. We really enjoyed ourself
been exploring keeler and owens lake since late may of this month. watched the sunset go over the sierras with my feet inside the smaller dirty socks pool just yesterday. sublime and beautiful. i'm so happy you have been making these videos just as Keeler and the Owens lake has made a signficant impact in my husband and i's life. thank you and keep it up!
Thanks for this video .I grew up in North Idaho,so why I love that area of Mono,Owens valley,is beyond me,But it's one of my favorite places to roam.Great video,Thanks again
That office looks like the worker just stood up saying : i am out, bye ! As always well declared and very interesting - thanks for showing and greetings from germany !
Great video! We stay at boulder creek twice a year. I always imagine what that area would be like now if Mulholland aqueduct didn't exist and LA water didn't own so much of the land. Briggs Cabin is amazing for anyone wanting to explore off the path! Whitney Portal is great when the summer heat arrives. Enjoy your adventures and safe travels!
Adam, This what I understand about the water fowel at Owens Lake. Snowy Plovers (listed in California as a Bird Species of Special Concern), have expanded their territories out from the lake margins, finding ideal habitat and food on shallow-flooded habitat. As a result, numbers of breeding plovers have nearly tripled in the past decade. Over a thousand American Avocets now nest on the lakebed, along with smaller numbers of Black-necked Stilts. Migrating waterfowl stop at the lake, and some species such as Gadwall and Mallard, have returned as breeders. Single-day lake-wide counts in spring or fall migration tally 40,000-60,000 birds. Experts expect that the area will attract even greater numbers of birds in the future.
5th generation Californian here...new subscriber. Well schooled on the water wars of our history. Dad born in 1918 travelled The Fruit Trail from Dates in Indio Oranges in Anaheim all the way to Olives in Olivehurst Ca in the 1920s thru the Great Depression. I have a question that you might be able to answer...I was Hwy 50 east of Nevada west of Salt Lake City and I stumbled upon a Reservoir... would you know the name of it? I was driving Eastbound and a Bald Eagle flew right over the cab of my F-250 . I pulled over and walked over a little bluff and to my surprise there was a big reservoir that I couldn't see from my truck. Anyway to my surprise there were no less than 100 Bald Eagles standing on the shore! I always wondered the name... anyway I really enjoy your channel and narration...well done. Thanks. Thanks for subscribing. The only reservoir that I am aware of along Hwy 50 in that area is Sevier Lake. If this is the place it is the terminal point of the Sevier River in Utah. The river has no outlet. This is a 400-mile river that begins west of Bryce Canyon. Depending on the precipitation for any given year, this lake can be dry. Glad you liked the video. Thanks again.
@@GhostTownWonders thanks for the reply..that very well was probably what I came across...i enjoyed my travels from Sacramento to Dulles airport that winter
Didn't the lake go all the way up to Bishop in the old days? I didn't even think there was a lake anymore since LA drained it... I'd like to see where the old lake was in an overlay of what is there today. Cheers!
Owens Lake extents are shown in the video beginning about 1:00 min. The exhibit shows the lake level and extents around 1905 before the LADWP took the water. There is now modern record showing the lake to Bishop.
Driven by many times just as you mention at the end. Thank you for the in-depth history.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching.

Didn't they film High Plains Drifter there?
That was done at Mono Lake. A few miles north.
Tremors was filmed here.
Thx 4 the tutorial
Glad you enjoyed the video.
Do you ever find any insulators?
No I have not found many insulators, but I have not been looking for them either.
@@GhostTownWonders Thanks for responding. Just curious as I collect them
