Thank You New York City for celebrating the life of John Winston Lennon, a young lad from Liverpool who changed music, culture and much more. ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE. ✌️
@@kevinbush4300 I wouldn't say he was a New Yorker. He was a Liverpool lad first and came to love NY so maybe he became part New Yorker second. He was loved on both sides of the Atlantic and around the world. REMEMBER LENNON FOREVER ✌️
@@kevanbrown7620 oh sure, I’m not suggesting he was ‘first and foremost’ a New Yorker… but I think he really took on board what it was to be one. He loved his ‘anonymity’… of course people knew who he was but he didn’t get hassled the way he felt he did in London, for example. And I guess back in Liverpool it would have been nigh on impossible for him to live a normal life. I’m not for one second suggesting he forgot his roots, just that New York welcomed him and allowed him to relax. Of course, the tragedy to this was that he fitted in so well, it gave him the freedom to behave with the openness that resulted in his murder. He perhaps would’ve been better off had he settled on the West Coast, but maybe something about the person he was drew him to New York.
@@kevinbush4300 Yeah, sorry, I understand what you were saying. I didn't mean to come across like Lennon 'belonged' to the UK. I know how much he loved New York by reading about his life there. Like You said he didn't get the hassle he was getting in London. Yoko said when she first took him there John said "It's like a huge Liverpool with the docks and other stuff" Apart from the tradgedy of his murder at the hands of that monster, I believe Lennon did become an 'honorary' New Yorker. Just a shame he didn't feel the need for security. He loved New York and when I was watching all those lovely people coming out on John's birthday some with guitars and other instruments and genuinely honouring John from the heart, singing and playing his songs I must admit it almost brought a tear to my eyes (I'm not one for crying). I could see how much New York still loved John and his music. I was really touched watching all those people singing and playing their hearts out for hours in memory of John Winston Lennon. Thanks for your post. ✌️
It always makes me smile to watch this phenomenon get bigger every year. It is so pure and gives me hope for the future of humanity. One day I’ll make it there…
Bravo! What a great gathering and the singing was just excellent! What a peaceful John Lennon moment! This should have been on Network TV News...played over and over all day for the better news at least for the world to reflect on among all the stupid corruption, violence and hatred, and killing!!! This is the real world! The sound engineers in the Studio couldn't have captured this recording so eloquently!!!Peace be with you...Aloha John Lennon.
This is absolutely heartwarming to see and hear, I didn't realize so many people still celebrated John's birthday/life. I loved him too and sing his songs in my shower almost everyday here in little old Indiana. I may have to make the trip to NYC next year for this.
John Lennon was beyond a musician, he was a magician who connected with your soul at a level no other singer or songwriter has before or since. His music and lyrics are a true reflection of life in all its colors, from “Girl” to “Woman” and Everywhere in between

I went to NYC and saw Strawberry Fields in Central Park in 1986. I also saw The Dakota building. I'm from Portland OR and on my 9th B-day, saw The Beatles in concert. It was 22 Aug 1965 and I felt a connection with John, after being in the same room with him. Beatles4Ever
I used to go every year and stay late into the night until the mayor put a curfew on us. Went a couple of years back and I was happy to see a new generation of people still going. Thanks for sharing.
@@thebeatlesnyc mayor Giuliani, while cleaning up NYC in the 90s, closed Central Park at 1 am. Until then, the vigils lasted all night. Once the curfew began, the fans had to leave. They tried to get the curfew lifted when Bloomberg became mayor but they chose to leave it as it stood.
@@thebeatlesnyc Yeah, we would stay well past midnight. I lived on Long Island and would leave shortly after but it was still going in full force when I left. I think people stayed until the next morning and just sang, smoked and drank all night. One year, Yoko put a sign in her Dakota window stating "I Love You." What makes listening to Beatles music even much better than listening by oneself, is watching a large group singing along, I can only imagine how much pleasure it would be to be a part of it. Thanks for sharing Great job!!!

What a brilliant idea by Yoko. Creating a place where people can gather to sing John's songs.
Yoko is not and never was a good person. She hurt Julian so much.
