Loved watching these two. Both great ball-strikers, especially Davenport, Clijsters an amazing retriever. They were not only powerful but smart, skillful players who understood the game well. Good times.

Clijsters’ 2003 season was probably the best tennis anyone ever played without winning a major, even more than Davenport’s 2004/5. She was at least as good at this time as 2005 and 2009/10. Insane level of play from Autumn 2002 until her 2004 wrist injury - power, retrieving, changing the direction of the ball effortlessly. She just could not solve Henin and was afraid to beat Serena in Australia. Somehow she also managed to play doubles as well - she was so obsessed with retiring early that she played way too many matches.

@@stefan33uk Her best of the best I think was the USO in 2005, which she won and against some tough opponents. She looked very fit, her mobility there was maybe the best in the WTA history. In her "second career" however, she came back much tougher mentally. Her matches against Henin in that period are a good example of it.

@@LuLu-nw6bi I agree 2005 was insane. She won Indian Wells, Miami, like three US Open warm up tournaments and the US Open. She cleaned up on all the hard court tournaments she played that year.

@@stefan33uk Yes, peak Clijsters is maybe the best hard court player after peak Serena, ever.

For some reason Clijsters name doesnt come up enough as one of the greats of the game. It should
