This is the first 1/2 of an introduction to the art and cultures of the Americas prior to 1492 and the coming of Europeans to the continent. Professor H. Rafael Chacon discusses patterns that persist in Latin America from the Olmec to modern times.
I live in New England. There are an extreme amount of stone walls, stone walls in the shape of a snake with head included, stone art work of turtles etc. The colonials described this area as having these stone walls prior to them settling here. This is documented information. We have interesting megalithic sites in New England, Pennsylvania, Upper state NY> etc. There is a standing stone (menhir) two towns over from me. This part of the world is far older than is taught and far more interesting than we are allowed to know.
There was a serpentine government established here way before 1492!
@@michaeljofat7895 I do know the turtle stone structures represent mother earth/places to land after the flood. I also know the serpent mounts are built over areas of power/highly charged magnetic areas and that many of the balanced stones are also placed in highly magnetized areas. It is my hypothesis that these ppl used/could sense these areas and marked them. I don't believe these items had anything to do with a serpentine government. Tell my what you know about a prior serpentine gov. I am curious. Thanks
The indigenous of turtle island are the ones you thought were slaves from Africa these fake natives are the mixed children of European settlers and relatives of those Europeans that have purchased their way into the tribe.

The poorly kept records is also a myth, those were burned in systematic fires that sat in the first colonial courthouses and libraries. Denying the rights under colonial or Roman (Pope) ownership or agreements. Not accidental in any stretch of any languages.
Absolutely. The systematic destruction of native records, history, and knowledge was a devastating loss to all humanity, not just the peoples of this continent.

You can rightfully trash the narrative of today, without understanding the situation. Glouscap went to England before the algonquins attacked the democratic 5 Mohawk nations, then the Europeans invaded, the algonquins lost so badly, Mohawks became the 6 nations, remainder being annexed after their takeover attempt. The " heretics" cut and burned millions and millions of fruit trees, depleting the peaceful Nations from substinance. they carried a cross on their flag but they worshipped the "other side" and killed as much as they could, only an heretic could do that.

Saludos Hipolito, do you have more information regarding the connection between the Maya and Cahokia? I didn't understand what the connection is or what evidence it is based on. If you have another talk on the subject I would like to see it.
That relationship is still speculative-the almost collapse and depopulation of the Maya city states and the subsequent rise of city centers in North America is a provocative chronology. Most of the literature on the topic rests with scholars at Cahokia who have found lots of evidence of trade networks north and south and the presence of materials that could only have come from the Caribbean basin.

So did America have visitors from a land bridge or an ice bridge first?
Since the dawn of travel up to today waterways are the primary mode of travel. You can travel the oceans with a big enough raft to hold food and water on the currents. Academia says they walked across a land bridge bypassed Alaska, Canada and most of the United States to build in the east, Mexico, Central and S America. Even though by water makes more sense and population settlements matches. Whoever populated the planet or the descendants the civilization that was worldwide I call the pyramid builders.
I agree about early maritime travel although I am no specialist and archeological evidence is, of course, sparse. There has been some scholarship on the more recent migrations from southeast Asia to South America across the Pacific and on raft travel along the western coast of the American continent, but again, these are historically much closer to our time. Thanks for your response.

My question to the narrator is how did the Europeans not know about the lands west of the British isles when the vikings traveled all over western Europe trading and conquering for hundreds of years and never mentioned having contact with America's natives 600 yrs before Columbus?
Excellent question. There are sporadic accounts in Western Europe throughout the late Middle Ages of lands to the west across the sea. Columbus’s first journey rested in part on a belief in those accounts.
continuum I like that
Continuum transfunctioner
In reference to Christopher Columbus, he encountered natives on his voyage and it was recorded. One can change the word 'discovered' to 'stumbled upon' or whatever one wishes. But it was after that moment on that European nations began their efforts across the ocean in earnest. The import of those events and his role is undeniable. There are a lot of historical chapters that are filled with great, as well as terrible things. People will use political gripes, seeing through their modern lenses, to diminish and perhaps ostracize Columbus, but history has been recorded regardless. The idea is to be truthful of historical events, for the sake of truth, and for future generations. Explorers, researchers, archaeologists, and writers have documented events hundreds of years. So, discovered is in the context of "discovered" for Europeans. Here are some sentences that will make a point: (they discovered my secret hiding place). (they discovered a chest full of gold coins).
Well put.
I often hear people say that indigenous America/culture is "not dead." Yet, I can't help but wonder if anyone actually said it was gone. I've known about such peoples since I was a kid.
