I saw this as a sort of origin to "The Legendary Super Saiyan" or at least how it started. It also completes a sort of "the man, the myth, the legend" thing for the Legendary Super Saiyan with Bardock "The Man" Goke "The Myth" and Broly "The Legend"
"Yay, we're all Super Saiyans!" is one of my favorite jokes in the series...it puts yet another hilarious layer onto Vegeta's "You're not dealing with the average Saiyan warrior anymore" and how Freeza got so annoyed by it
Just so you get it In a manga called DB Minus (By Toriyama) He wrote the saiyan history as, there was a Race on a planet called 'Plant' (The one used in this movie) that Race was called Saiyans then another more evolved race came to that planet conquered it and named it planet 'Sadala' (The one in DBS Universe 6), Those Saiyans were evil so a pure hearted Saiyan with his small group of few other saiyans caused destruction of that planet (as explained be King Kai in original DBZ) Some of the Saiyans survived and then went on to another planet (Which I don't remember the original name of) There lived a race called Tuffle, the Saiyans led by Vegeta the Third overthrew Tuffles and conquered that planet for themselves, calling it Planet 'Vegeta' the one that Freeza destroyed. Other references that you might or might not have got Opening dialogues of Freeza, Zarbon and Dadoria refer to the 1st Bardok movie. Spug: The healing liquid used by freeza force Chilled names his force as fruits is the reference to the whole group in freeza force named after fruits (Toriyama Named almost everything after edibles) Bardock Becoming Super Saiyan (Several Thousand years in past) refers to the legend of super saiyan that vegeta told in DBZ that the legendary super saiyan only appears once in thousands of years. Chilled's dying wish refers to Ginyu Force.
It about the lone warrior going back to the past about 1000 years where planet salda was different back then and chili frieza's ancestor was such a badass before he met his demise at the hands of a super Saiyan. And this is more of a alternate special where bardock gets sent into the past moments before his supposed death
Kinda pointless overall. There having been a super saiyajin sometime in the past would have been enough. But of course, like all mediocre (at best) expanded universer kinda material, it HAS to include an ancestor of Frieza as well. Because of course. It's like poetry, it rhymes. Argh.
@@Animelon Indeed. But it makes even more "less" sense when you check out the DBZA original Broly movie ^^ and Super Android 13. Which are my favorites ^^
You definitely seem way more confident in your videos than when you first started doing them. I watched your sword art online abridged videos absolutely loved your reactions to them.
The thing is, those were the original saiyans, the saiyans we all know today were brought to this planet later. They wiped out the original saiyans. In dragon ball GT, they actually explore the original inhabitants of planet Vegeta with the character Baby.
In regards to the animation, this was released 11 years ago. In terms of the films, nothing is particularly Canon prior to the super series. So bardocks appearances are non-canon, the original broly, cooler, Etc. Although some have what's called "Pseudo-Canon". Should be noted that the Saiyans are Saiyans originally from Planet Sadala, they relocated to planet plant ( according to Legend) After their Planet was destroyed by Yamoshi, the original Super Saiyan
The race with the rapper names were the ancient Saiyans, they are a race that gets more and more powerful the more they are beat up and recover. So over the centuries they changed to suit their power increase, and now we have our present day Saiyans that we know and love ^-^. I love that fact that with Chill's last decree that he mandated the formation of the Ginyu Force, Team 4 Star are so great
0:55 This is old-new. It's from like 2010 or 2012, so it starts with this "shiny" style of drawing characters which is all over Super and I hate it. 2:40 Oh? You seen "Dragon Ball: Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!"? It's a 35-minute movie that came out in 2008 to celebrate 40 years of Shonen Jump and was the first new official DB animation in 12 years. 14:21 No, he didn't. It's a joke about how the original dub tried to turn Goku into Superman, so they had Vegeta claim Bardock came up with the way to create those balls of energy that act as artifical moons and called him a "brilliant scientist". 14:46 Don't bother thinking about it. Like the narrator said at the start, this is just for merchandising. Main reason behind this movie is so they could sell Super Saiyan Bardock figures and put him in video games. No one treats this as any kind of canon and they've since basically retconned this along with the first Bardock movie.
Yeah. One of the reasons I adored the Broly movie was the seamless integration of the old hand drawn style with modern techniques. Apparently that’s hella expensive these days tho.
@@MarisuSedai Of course. CGI is way cheaper and is also why the latest movie is CG. Disney had to literally pull animators out of retirement for the recent Chip and Dale movie cause no one actually knew anything about hand drawn animation anymore.
@@MarisuSedai Hopefully when the series returns they keep the art style from Broly coz i loved it so much. Also One piece is getting the same treatment now and has the same animation style from Broly and every episode looks like a fricking movie. A very weird Dub Change was calling Bardock a brilliant Scientist. That dump Goon at the End called him a Scientist in Reference to that. But he did made that moon, apparently.
I think this movie was made because many people actually loved Bardock in the first one, despite being not as powerful as other characters he still had an interesting personality and story. Of course TFS changed some stuff, but it is pretty spot on.
My favorite part of this movie is how Bardock is so enraged by the terribly written plot twist of him being in the past (or, as he so eloquently put it, “stupid, asinine, shark-jumping bullshit”), that he turns Super Saiyan. Goku had to lose Krillin, Gohan watched Android 16 die, Vegeta had to put himself through training from hell, and Bardock…suffered a cliche plot twist. He definitely got the short end of the stick there. 😂
it wasnt the training that caused vegeta to transform his transformation was triggered by the NEED to survive out in space. i'd like to think are the beating he got from recoome the beating from 2nd form freiza, being mortally wounded by krillin, and dying to final form freiza as well that he'd already had enough power to supply the transformation. so the 450xG was just extra to make sure he was stronger than goku when he reached the form.
In the game Xenoverse 2, SPOILER ALERT the main villains kidnap Bardock right before Freeza's death ball kills him to use him in their scheme but mention they lost track of him (probably due a dimensional shift ) and that possibly explains the special in a semi-logical fashion, but only in the video games
Late to the party but to answer a potentially unanswered question. That is planet vegeta in the past, I don’t think those are saiyans, at least not the ones we know of. The saiyans we know of slaughter that race and took their planet
At the time this movie came out i think it was implying that bardock was the first super saiyan of legend vegeta kept talking about the the freeza saga
"more recent" well, I think it was 2010/2011. The animation looks a lot like the Remake of The Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans/Super Saiyans, which was a game and then a remade animation/OVA in the game Raging Blast 2 from 2010.
The movie may be non Canon but the people in charge of Dragon Ball must love it because they seem to do everything they can to make Bardock relevant in video games and make sure he can go super saiyan.
Hi Melon Great video Bardock is such an amazing character he deserves his Dragon ball super movie I would go see it let me know if would want to see it to if they ever decide to make it Oh bye the way anyone ever think of way Goku or vegeta never used the Dragon ball to bring there parents back to life
This OAV was pretty obscure when it came out. It was before battle of gods and the resurgence of the franchise. You could catch mediocre rips of the japanese version on OG youtube back when copyrighted stuff could slip through the cracks for years.

What TFS does is try to actually make all of the movies fit in chronlogically in the story so that's why you have people recommending when you watch them because certain lines won't make sense if you see them before a certain point. As nonsensical as this is the main original takeaway is that by having Bardock go super saiyan the legend is now based on him, and Goku becomes a direct decendant of said Super Saiyan. Your shock/confusion at them explaining that those were Saiyans was the point of the joke were Bardock kicks one and then its just pregnant because anyone watching the OG is probably also thinking "wait, how the f" 😆
This "movie" isn't canon. It was created back in 2011, I believe, and adapted from a manga side-story. Toriyama himself said that this movie was nothing more than a "What-if scenario"
This Special was great, the original movie itself..it was kinda weird and doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Cause this was created a long time after the series had ended.
You haven't seen this one because it was never officially released in the West (or never dubbed, at least). AFAIK, TFS has still done the only English-language dub of this special. It's also terrible, according to TFS, so there's that, lol.

Yeah this is the same style and animation as Super, and I'm personally not a fan. It lacks the weight and pressure, the tactile detail that the older animation has. You can feel the force of each impact. Here it's completely gone. But still liked this special. Only ever watched the abridged version though lol.
@@Animelon with that said the original episode is actually very similar. It’s equally as all over the place with the story but they explain everything earlier and a little more clearly but the fact they had to fit this entire story and lore into one 20 minute episode (yes it is that short if you want to see for yourself) makes it impossible to make it any other way.
I think either TFS or the dub of this one off special got it wrong as the original residents of what is now called planet vegeta were the Tuffles. Planet Vegeta is not the Saiyans original homeworld but was taken over by them, these purple aliens are not biologically related to the saiyan race just the original inhabitants of the saiyan's current homeworld (planet vegeta). Even in the manga etc for this special they are referred to as plantians and not tuffles though so it is all a bit confusing really.
The origin of the saiyans is... wonky. All sources say planet Vegeta isn't their original planet, having destroyed their home and conquered another planet, which they named Vegeta. The issues arise with the specifics, as while GT and 'other' media give plenty, their legitimacy is in question. GT was never made _explicitly_ non-canon, instead Super just pretends it never happened- that being said its not fully clear if every little thing GT covered just shouldn't be considered at all (like the movies) or if it's just waiting to be reintroduced. Most of Saiyan history falls under that purview. Dragon Ball heroes is another potential source, but unlike GT it was never canon to begin with. Think of Heroes as more like a... parallel timeline with multiverses and lots of time bullshit. Super identifies the original Saiyan planet as Sadala, but does not identify the planet they moved to- so we don't know for sure what Planet Vegeta was originally called. In GT, Heroes, and Episode of Bardock, however, the planet is identified as Planet Plant. Id say it's pretty likely this won't change. As for the destruction of Sadala, only Heroes ever specifies what happened in any capacity. Apparently there was a civil war between good saiyan and evil saiyans, with the original super saiyan on the side of the good Saiyans. Despite this, the evil one actually won somehow, but the civil war (implied to be the final battle with the super saiyan) destroyed the planet. All the other sources just say the Saiyans destroyed it somehow. As for the original inhabitants of Plant, in GT and Heroes those were the Tuffles. The Saiyans, fleeing their home planet, landed as 'refugees' on Plant. A couple centuries latter during age 720, there was a war. Now according to Vegeta, the Tuffles treated the Saiyans like second-class citizens, but Baby (a Tuffle bio-android created long after the extinction of the Tuffle race and destruction of the planet) claimed the Saiyans attacked unprovoked. That being said, King Kai claims then King Vegeta wanted to rule the planet. By Age 730 the war was over and the Tuffles were extinct, only for Frieza to find them, conquer them, use them as shock troops to commit genocide around the universe for five years, then kill all of them. Of course in Episode of Bardock the original inhabitants of Plant are those purple guys, but it's only in the movie that they call themselves Saiyans. In the manga they aren't named and specifically mention they've never heard of Saiyans. To be specific, the only things we know right now for certain is that the original Saiyan planet was called Sadala, it was destroyed, the Saiyans took over another one, and Frieza blew it up. Most else is up for grabs.
i just go with what dbz gave us xDD they lived next to the tuffels until one day they wiped them out but since then the technology stagnated and they made a deal with freezer to access they're technology and actually make it into deeper space
That whole Bardock being a scientist in the end is a reference to the first Eng dub of DBZ where Vegeta calls Bardock a “brilliant scientist.”
And that, may be one of the shittiest translations I've ever seen in the whole anime's history ! And I'm totally serious about that.

This was actually a 20-minute special from 2011 and when we got it here, it was only included in the DBZ Kinect game.
I saw this as a sort of origin to "The Legendary Super Saiyan" or at least how it started. It also completes a sort of "the man, the myth, the legend" thing for the Legendary Super Saiyan with Bardock "The Man" Goke "The Myth" and Broly "The Legend"
Ok yeah, see that part actually makes sense.

I love that he's the he calls himself the Legendary Super Saiyan, because the myth was based on the far past. Weird movie. I liked that though.
"Yay, we're all Super Saiyans!" is one of my favorite jokes in the series...it puts yet another hilarious layer onto Vegeta's "You're not dealing with the average Saiyan warrior anymore" and how Freeza got so annoyed by it
@@AgeofJP Imagine if he found out who it was. He would lose his shit lol
I love that Lord Chilled had the same VA as Tien and Android 17.
Just so you get it
In a manga called DB Minus (By Toriyama) He wrote the saiyan history as, there was a Race on a planet called 'Plant' (The one used in this movie) that Race was called Saiyans then another more evolved race came to that planet conquered it and named it planet 'Sadala' (The one in DBS Universe 6), Those Saiyans were evil so a pure hearted Saiyan with his small group of few other saiyans caused destruction of that planet (as explained be King Kai in original DBZ) Some of the Saiyans survived and then went on to another planet (Which I don't remember the original name of) There lived a race called Tuffle, the Saiyans led by Vegeta the Third overthrew Tuffles and conquered that planet for themselves, calling it Planet 'Vegeta' the one that Freeza destroyed.
Other references that you might or might not have got
Opening dialogues of Freeza, Zarbon and Dadoria refer to the 1st Bardok movie.
Spug: The healing liquid used by freeza force
Chilled names his force as fruits is the reference to the whole group in freeza force named after fruits (Toriyama Named almost everything after edibles)
Bardock Becoming Super Saiyan (Several Thousand years in past) refers to the legend of super saiyan that vegeta told in DBZ that the legendary super saiyan only appears once in thousands of years.
Besides the merchandise reasons, this was probably made, to explain the "Legend" or Freeza's frear of the Super Saiyan.
Ohhh, true. I’ve always wondered about that. Like where did the legend come from
Melon! Yo! If you could check out my comment here, that would be awesome!
Just a random saiyan in the past that got lucky
You definitely seem way more confident in your videos than when you first started doing them. I watched your sword art online abridged videos absolutely loved your reactions to them.
The thing is, those were the original saiyans, the saiyans we all know today were brought to this planet later. They wiped out the original saiyans. In dragon ball GT, they actually explore the original inhabitants of planet Vegeta with the character Baby.
@WORLD OF SAIYANS they were still supposed to be the shared inhabitants of Planet Vegeta. It’s confusing. The manga has all of the original ideas
MasakoX later takes "Merchandising!" and runs with it.

Bardock will always be a freaking badass
Lol I was gonna start typing about the rapper names just when you realized
The race with the rapper names were the ancient Saiyans, they are a race that gets more and more powerful the more they are beat up and recover. So over the centuries they changed to suit their power increase, and now we have our present day Saiyans that we know and love ^-^.
I love that fact that with Chill's last decree that he mandated the formation of the Ginyu Force, Team 4 Star are so great
Instead of that random Piccolo cameo, they should have went with Gohan waking up and geting whipped by that cruel tutor again.
I can't imagine watching Episode of Bardock abridged without knowing the original one. Like, I would be doubting if anything I saw was a joke or not.
Yeaa def looks like that
I'm so jealous ! db fans need to eat once the anime returns too 😩
A very weird Dub Change was calling Bardock a brilliant Scientist.
@@ByakuganXEyeX in canon it was just training. in abridged, it was crying and wanting it really bad.
11:33 Classic! You know your Dragon Ball Z.

I’m sure others might have mentioned it but funimation never dubbed this so TFS, as far as we know are the first to dub it in English.
Melons face at the end 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"more recent" well, I think it was 2010/2011. The animation looks a lot like the Remake of The Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans/Super Saiyans, which was a game and then a remade animation/OVA in the game Raging Blast 2 from 2010.
the creator of the manga and anime stated that movies arent canon and are just a part of a different timeline
Wooooo melon the champ, this is gonna be lit
Haha great vid as always melon :)
Since you haven’t seen the more recent DBZ specials, I guess you didn’t see the one with Vegeta’s brother? 😅 it was rather funny to watch
The movie may be non Canon but the people in charge of Dragon Ball must love it because they seem to do everything they can to make Bardock relevant in video games and make sure he can go super saiyan.
If you feel like it's canon it's canon.
Also he might do that in dbz kakarot.
Hi Melon Great video
Bardock is such an amazing character he deserves his Dragon ball super movie I would go see it let me know if would want to see it to if they ever decide to make it
Oh bye the way anyone ever think of way Goku or vegeta never used the Dragon ball to bring there parents back to life
This OAV was pretty obscure when it came out. It was before battle of gods and the resurgence of the franchise. You could catch mediocre rips of the japanese version on OG youtube back when copyrighted stuff could slip through the cracks for years.

To me that’s crazy. That realization makes me feel old. Like knowing frozen was made 9 years ago.

Your shock/confusion at them explaining that those were Saiyans was the point of the joke were Bardock kicks one and then its just pregnant because anyone watching the OG is probably also thinking "wait, how the f" 😆
funny sidenote the original is one off tfs most hated db movies
You watched the Bardock movie. This is Bardock part 2. Also I don’t think you watched Broly yet. At least not with us.
Lol this shit is way better than the actual movie
I think you also need to watch the movie super android 13 soon before getting to far into the android saga
This "movie" isn't canon. It was created back in 2011, I believe, and adapted from a manga side-story. Toriyama himself said that this movie was nothing more than a "What-if scenario"
If that was the case then gt would be what if. These both are part of the Dragonball continuity.

Only ever watched the abridged version though lol.
kermit?
Yeah those were sayians. I don’t think it’s not that hard to believe. I looked like them as a kid and I like to believe i look NOT like that now 😅
Bro
No.
No one can convince me that those are actually saiyans. There gotta be another explanation
@@Animelon to be fair it’s never DIRECTLY said they’re sayians but they are the natives of the ancient planet vegeta so like…
@@Animelon with that said the original episode is actually very similar. It’s equally as all over the place with the story but they explain everything earlier and a little more clearly but the fact they had to fit this entire story and lore into one 20 minute episode (yes it is that short if you want to see for yourself) makes it impossible to make it any other way.
you should've watch the original first
Haircut?
Regardless, this is a parody

Why ?

Yeah just so that you're aware, this is so non canon it hurts.
