- WWE WrestleMania XL Nights 1 and 2 Review: Story Finished

After two years of build up for Cody to finish his story and four years of Roman Reigns' titan-like grip on the WWE Universal Championship, the story finally comes full circle in the main event of 2024's WrestleMania XL.
Cody and Reigns would be on opposite sides of the ring twice during WrestleMania weekend as night one saw Rhodes team with WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins against Reigns and his tag partner Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. We'd also see other great matches including Bayley attempting to get her 'Mania moment when she faced off with Iyo Sky, Sami Zayn challenging GUNTHER and his record Intercontinental Championship reign, Jimmy and Jey Uso battle in yet another WrestleMania fight between brothers, and Drew McIntyre challenging Seth Rollins for the World Title with CM Punk doing guest commentary.
Plenty of surprises and great moments during the two day event. Although parts of both nights felt a bit slow, the overall event was a great one and a wonderful way for WWE to end its two year hot streak of creative and possibly looking forward to an even brighter future as the "Triple H Era" (or Melodrama Era as I call it) ends one saga and begins another.

You left out my favorite bit of storytelling from the main event, Seth coming out in his SHIELD gear, triggering Roman's PTSD from his prior betrayal that has basically been the driving motivation of his Tribal Chief character. In the end Roman pretty much threw the match away just to get his lick back on Seth (and after the chair shot Seth fell against the ropes the exact same way Roman did 10 years ago). I loved that
Yeah that small detail was nice but I don’t think the match needed too many people in it. I feel like it puts down on Cody’s win.
Ah yes, for a split second I wondered if Mox had gone over since we haven't seen him in weeks (although we all know he was in Japan at Sakura Genesis at that time).
@@rassslinRant lol, I had the same exact thought at first. Was sitting there like, "I know his contract lets him work with other promotions, but Tony would have drawn the line at this, right? Right???"
That ending was amazing. Overbooked, but amazing.
I loved the overbooked over produced ending the most WWE thing ever! 3 of the biggest most influential Wrestlers in the History of Wrestling! Man I freaking loved it!!
Priest's Chokeslam is called "South of Heaven". I assume it's a reference to the Slayer album
Yessir
Which his former stablemate Edge came out to at WrestleMania once.
I'd consider NJPW "pro wrestling"
AEW I'd say is also sports entertainment, just with far more of a pro wrestling slant. It's like a spectrum.
Pro Wrestling NJPW - AEW - WWE Sports Entertainment
Bayley and Sky and Guther and Zayn almost stole Match of The Night for me. I didnt know Sky and Bayley were that good very impress. I hope Gunther goes for the World title.
I felt that the matches were too predictable. I kinda got bored. Last match was tooo overbooked but I am happy for Cody.
The Zayn Gunther match felt so underwhelming to me but everyone was insisting to me it was great.
Asuka getting squashed will never be a good match to me.
And the main event of night 2 was alright but I spent the whole end of the match expecting the glass to shatter and then being confused (initially) by Undertaker showing up.
@@Dekartz I mean I enjoyed the match but it wasn’t great. It was a good match. Though idk how wwe calling it cinema then saying it’s professional wrestling. Those two do not match when you over book a whole match. Even so this wrestlemania felt like a. One match show.
@nitrofredy It may not be a fair comparison but Rhodes v Rhodes felt far more "cinema" than this match while being pro-wrestling.
@@Dekartz I feel like wwe marks are just using cinema like they know what it means. Then throw around professional wrestling when they don’t even know what that actually means
Alright man! That was quick! Thank you!
There were a lot of indie-rific moments over those two nights I’m glad you pointed that out. Really thoughtful rap up. Cheers man
Thank you. Yes, for a company and a fanbase that mock "indie style" so much, they sure do a hell of a lot of it.
I am intrigued by this new “Renaissance Era” of WWE. I think the best thing WWE could do narratively is turn the shows into pure chaos. The Bloodline ran the company. As such with every overthrowing of a regime, chaos tends to come before order. Cody’s story is far from over. He won the title, but the new narrative should be centered around HOW he leads the company as the new face. He’s gotta fall again. He’s gotta fail. But overtime, I think he’ll get it. They need a human being as the Top Face. Not Superman.
This was the first Mania I watched in years where it seemed like the talent were actually having fun.
Are you going to do a sakura genesis review? Curious your thoughts on naito vs tsuji and tsuji in general
IO Sky and Bailey and Gunther Vs Sami Zane were the best matches of this WrestleMania.
WM was okay there were a lot of fun matches. . And some duds
Thanks for the review
I honestly don't know why people praise WM38 as a whole. Night 1 was the only night worth recommending. Only things from Night 2 worth mentioning is probably the men's tag team and the Knoxville match.
Despite a few great matches in them, I personally feel like WM37, 38 and 39 will not age well with time. My personal opinion.
I think WM40 will age better cause there are fewer mediocre matches compared to the last three. The only bad thing I can say about WM40 is that the middle part of Night 1 can put you to sleep.
WM 38 was overall an 8.5/10 mania. Night 2 had match that everyone thought was gonna suck but ended up not sucking.
Pat McAfee vs Austin Theory
Raw Tag title match
Bobby vs Omos was actually decent
Knoxville vs Zayn
Styles vs Edge
Roman v Lesnar would’ve been good if Roman didn’t get injured halfway through the match.
WM 39 was damn near perfect.
And WM 37 was damn near perfect too if it weren’t for Ft hat fiend match with Orton. I really don’t know what you mean bro.
@@nyameleyefekaska2895 watch from WM17 to WM24 for comparison.
I finally watched both nights and they were 2 good shows. I wonder if the hhh formula for a 2 night WM is to start slow to end good.
Ripley v Becky: good.
Six-Pack Tag Team Ladder Match: good
Rey Mysterio and Andrade v Dominik Mysterio & Santos Escobar: bad
Jimmy v Jey: bad
Jade Cargill, Naomi, and Bianca Belair v Dakota Kai, Asuka, and Kairi Sane: solid
Gunther v Sami Zayn: MOTY contender
Rock and Roman Reigns v Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes: good
Seth Rollins v Drew McIntyre (with Damien Priest MITB cash in): very good
Bobby Lashley and The Street Profits v The Final Testament: bad
LA Knight v AJ Styles: decent
U.S. Title Match: solid
Iyo Sky v Bayley: damn good
Roman Reigns v Cody Rhodes 2: MOTY candidate
It’s a PPV like WM 30. Not perfect but showed a perfect moment for a chapter in WWE.
I'll be the negative nancy here.
Was there a reason why Steve Austin didn't make it to Mania?
Because I don't get the Undertaker doing that interference. Yeah he has feuded with The Rock before but neither of them are each other's top 5 feuds, there's literally no lingering beef between them. Everyone else, yeah very much understandable.
Taker, WTF was HE doing there?
I actually thought it was a really good show, better then last year.
Main event was an overbooked mess but I still enjoyed it.
It's too long to be considered one of the best Wrestlemania's of all time.
If you boiled down the highlights into one night it might've been one of the best.
“South of Heaven” is what it’s called
That was the most sports entertaining thing I’ve ever seen.
This WM40 was great!
99% is a crazy number
I loved it first time being able to go to a mania (childhood dream ✅) and I had a great time. The most overblown meta MCU match I’ve ever seen and loved it all. 😂
Opinion on Steph being on tv to open night 2?
I originally had that in this video but edited it out. That's a topic for another time.
Even the Undertaker??? lmao damn I wish I had watched this
Undercard was not the best but this was the greatest finish to a WrestleMania ever.
Usos should've been in a Hell in a Cell match . They really should've had 2 other matches before this WM 40 one, 50/50 booking with this bei h the tie Breaker.
Roll. The. Tape.
Its weird that I think that Chad Gable should have been in this instead of Sami Zayn? Like I understand why its Sami, but it just feels like Chad Gable should have been in this position. Maybe that's just me. Also REALLY felt like this was a send-off for Drew, maybe its just good booking on their end. Either way, it makes Drew interesting. Finally, Yeah its overbooked, Yeah it should have happened last year. YEAH it almost got ruined by bad booking again. But Cody Finished the Story.........so now my question is What's next? You've made the Marvel analogy before so let me make one. Is this going to be like Phase 4 where they don't really HAVE a plan or the plan is so botched they need to fix it again. Let's hope not.
House of torture-ass ending to the main event.
That main event was so overbooked. At times it still made me sleepy. It wasn’t too bad.
I thought Wrestlemania overall was just okay. As for the future, I'm skeptical. I think the build of Cody chasing the wwe title will be better than his run as the Wwe champion. Plus the cynic in me thinks this is all to further Roman's character arc and that he'll champion again either by Summerslam or by the end of next year's Wrestlemania.
I tried watching WrestleMania for the first time in 12 years, what a boring show, nothing is different then the last time I watched, what are these WWE fanbois talking about? What good stories are there? The characters are still all happy go lucky weirdos, almost all the females still act like grade school children, they talk about no selling in other companies, but here there's too much over selling, one chop and they sell it like they got hit with a nuke it's ridiculous,
I only tuned in for the rock and his story made no sense, they had a tag match and if rocks team won they got their rules set for the next night, but during the match the rock could make up the rules as he goes along so what's the point of the tag match at all, there wasn't any compelling stories on this show, I didn't even bother watching the second night,
Hahaha if this is the hot product that says a lot about how lame the modern fambase is
Seth’s entrance was so cringe 😂 wtf is he supposed to be? The wacky clothes closet fairy? He’s the worst. And his fans just amplify the cringe with that goofy entrance. I felt bad for him when he shed some tears after his loss tho. The stuff with drew was hilarious. Drew was great. Snoop was great on commentary. Randy was great in the triple threat. As for the main event, it was the best Roman match ever. I just wish Austin was there instead of taker. Rock is pure class in his role. I’m excited to see what he does next, hopefully as a heel.
That's a Philly parade tradition and they were in Philly...
