Earlier in the episode, Carrie wants to buy something at the vending machine. She wants to pick part of the alphanumeric string, and she wants Doug to pick part of the alphanumeric string. Doug says he can't do that. He can't risk getting what item for lunch?

Awe, I felt bad for Carrie this episode
Doug could have understood carrie situation she needs a job she was isolated job was for two weeks it was Christmas time she needs money during that time and who was in strick should know what carrie going through
Yeah, this is one of the few instances where she was actually being nice for much of the episode. Odd that Doug wouldn't appreciate this rare occurrence, but it obviously makes for a very humorous situation, just as intended.
