I think Junior got emotional at the funeral because it was at that point he realized he had nothing. No family, no legacy. Worst of all, his nephew never had the makings of a varsity athlete.
Lol
He could have had a better relationship with his nephew.
@@molasorrosalom4846 yeah but think of all the shame Tony brought Junior from not being a varsity athlete. He had small hands and never had the drive. Too busy with the girls. Even though he had a swing like Joe D.
@@anthonylifrieri7 not to mention he yaps worse than six barbers.
@@anthonylifrieri7
Did his hands suddenly become bear claws after high school?
it's hilarious that the most uncomfortable scene in both breaking bad and the sopranos is a character singing happy birthday mr president like marilyn monroe
But in Wayne's World it's fantastic.
The Boxcutter kill in breaking bad wished it could be that uncomfortable
Skyler and Fran need to have a duet
Skyler was way worse.
The original Marilyn performance was probably uncomfortable in real life. I think it was Dave Chappelle that pointed out that Marilyn was serenading her boyfriend in front of his wife and everyone knew it
The song playing when Tony is chasing Phil is indeed Rock the Casbah, yet it's not often mentioned that the song is about the banning of rock music after the overthrow of - you guessed it - the Shah of Iran
damn, 1 hour too late!
kudos **tips hat**
That's the kind of insight we used to get earlier in the series from PureKino. It seems that he is just on a schedule now running down the plot of the episodes without any analysis.
@@Dominian1 Sadly true it seems :(
Great catch.
@@Dominian1 True, but, we gotta cut him some slack. It's hard to find every detail in over 87 episodes and editing them.
J.F.K was also away, fucking around on Jackie, while she had a failed pregnancy. That’s another parallel.
He was garbage...
"dangerous levels of cringe"
100% accurate assessment. Fran was just icky. She gave off a vibe that she was trying to not only squeeze Tony for money, but squeeze his pickle too.
some viewers might find the video *cingreworthy* apparently
I never liked that storyline… I still don’t know where they were going with this. Was she trying to get money out of Tony? The way they first met was suspicious. I thought she was going to be a scammer who never knew his dad, was the friend or sister of his actual gumar. But nope… it just went nowhere.
@@Boobalopbop It was about showing Tony the "idealized" version of his dad. Making him feel like his dad was justified in what he did because Livia was so evil and he went to Fran because she was so good to him. In reality, Fran was a parasite. She was just as bad as Livia but in a different way. The storyline was about giving Tony the opportunity to come to grips with the fact that his dad fucked him up just as bad as his mom. But in the end, Tony decided to keep believing the illusion of how great his dad was.
Lol. I'll never be able to eat a Gerkin again. I agree with your comment 👍
@@hullbreach33 I understand all that now, but at the time, I remember this whole subplot feeling awkward and forced in. I understood at the end when he was telling the story to Melfi. I remember thinking his dad was a PoS for putting him in that position. But yeah, Tony sees his dad as a God, but he was kind of a sleazy goofball. I think Chris foreshadows what we may see his dad was really like when he said “Let’s face it, the great Dickie Moltisante, wasn’t much more than a junkie”…. Tony’s reaction to that was interesting. Like he just didn’t know what to say, like that never occurred to him, because he sees him as this great man. I guess we’ll see in the movie.
If Furio had been there when she was singing, he would have noticed a bee on her hat.
He'd have gotten her phone number. And used it. ASAP.

Stupida facking song.
@@TooLooze deres a bee on yor head
I always interpreted Tony blaming Livia for forcing his dad to give the dog away as a coping mechanism for Tony to deflect guilt away from his father.
Because lying and cheating aren't a big deal to the guy who emulates and idolizes his father who lied and cheated as a life-style. That only leaves blame on the person who forced the dog out of the family. His dad isn't the one who took the dog away from him. And I think it's just anger, placed right. What kind of person gives away a family dog and then lies to the kids about it? Tony's mother is a psycho bitch and he struggles with that, because he isn't a psychopath. He loves animals and his family. He can't stop himself from being a shitbag, but he wants better for his kids. His parents never cared.
One of the small moments I enjoyed was when, after Phil crashed his car, Tony plays it off as a concerned citizen with “Hey mister you okay there?” before quietly threatening him out of earshot of the bystanders. Made me laugh
Yeah it's one of my favorite scenes in the whole show. "Holy shit mister, are you OK?" Then he roughs him up, and is like "It's alright, he's gonna be OK. I called 911, they're on the way," which he of course didn't hah.
I’m REALLY glad they didn’t go the route of having Tony sleep with her
Weird. David Chase supposedly did things the fans didn't want. I guess he missed this one.
I mean, tony did go to town on valentina when he saw that old dog photo with the dress on.

Omg when Fran started singing “Happy Birthday” to Tony, it was soooo creepy. That actress did a great job of being soooo unsettling.
Not to mention the fucking POV shot as the cherry on top

Isn’t Rock the Casbah a song about something that happened in Iran or something? I’m pretty sure that’s why it’s there cause of the whole Shah of Iran thing with Phil lol
Yeah, it’s a fictionalised account of the Iranian revolution. David Chase is awfully clever.
Hahahaha! That’s funny man! Forgot about the Shah of Iran deal…..what a dig
I like how later seasons Phil said you know they said I look like the shah of Iran ?! And the New York crew is like “ I don’t get it , I don’t see it”
But they secretly knew he looked like him
You are absolutely right!! Nice catch!🙌🏻
I never got at all
When she started dancing that was more disturbing than Tracy's death.
Agreed. It was down right disgusting.
It would of been funny af if Tony had a paulie moment in that moment and just killed Fran. That would of been one of the best scenes. Haha
Satanic black magic shit
I honestly thought it was one of those weird dream sequences lol, it's so weird..
@@obiwannadoobie3238 Fran was a str8 up user she planned to be at the cemetery that day
Mr.President scene is so disturbing for some reason, I'd rather rewatch Paulie & Virgin Mary scene 10 times lol
I have to agree. That was an uncomfortable scene.
Paulie would have non-consentual physical contact with the virgin Mary if he could get away with it. This singing lady looks like she could be Paulie's old lady.
That scene makes me giggle because of the guitar riff and suddenly Mary!
You can tell it was uncomfortable to Tony, too.
Kino should have went full cringe and had this (6:45) be the thumbnail… that or Tony’s reaction (6:51)
It’s to the point now where I don’t even watch new tv; any tv time I have I just watch sopranos over and over again. It never really gets old, especially seasons 1-4.
Funny, my favorites seasons are the final ones... it gets to almost Kubrick levels of cinematic brilliance.
I didn't really understand my granpa as a kid, who watched these very old VHS tapes of bavarian folk theater plays and basically nothing new. That's just what he grew up with and knew. Nowadays I totally get it. If I make it to an old's people home in the year 2070, they will probably have World of Warcraft and The Sopranos on for us to enjoy the old shit we know.
Same here. Doesn’t matter what episode or season you just watch it.
Chris happily encourages his friend to jump into a card game that is way over his head. Tony at least tried to save Davey from himself.
Tony actually saw his own mistresses in Fran. The vulgarity, the self-absorption, materialism, etc.
It terrified him that his own mistresses were a lot like Fran, and it made him feel disgusted in himself, too, that he was so much like his father.
Also, the whole situation seemed to make him feel a little bit more sympathy towards his mom.
Ugh god....I don't know if I'm ready for this one. Her face when she's singing...I don't know if I can bear it again
It's the cringiest moment in the whole series, followed by an old Nancy Sinatra singing for uncle Philly.
@@AgentRafa Oh my God yes then she made that corny joke.
Yep. The “Mr. President” scene was Fifty Shades of Gross.
Like how Tony attitude towards her slowly changed when she start to slate his mother
This lady who played the mistress was always great at playing repugnant women. She was super gross in this one. She nailed it.
If you’re wondering about the shortage of bleach at your local grocery stores…Kino bought it all to wash his eyes out with after the Happy Birthday scene.
I was wondering about that.
series highlight: Tony approaching Phil in the wrecked car, "Oh jeez mister, are you ok?"
JT was the one who sort of condescended to Chris when he lectured him about calling his sponsor before using. I'm sure that wasn't lost on Chrissy when he threw it back in his face later on, even using the line "there's no chemical solution to a spiritual problem" which I think he heard somewhere else first.
I might be wrong…but Pretty sure JT gave him that lecture minutes before christofa blew his brains out so your time line may be off on this
Ok, maybe you did put a disclaimer. But irregardless, I should’ve had immunity to all of this shit
If Johnny had married Fran instead of Lyvia there would have been no Sopranos. Tony would have been a cheerful, yet ruthless gangster like his Dad. Most of Tony’s complexity came from his relationship with his mother.
He wouldn’t have existed… 🤔
JT might be the most tragic side character of the whole show. Aside from maybe poor Sal Vitro, the gardener >_>
You are forgetting certain Davey , you know Richies good friend
Tracee?
@@eriveltomartinsbarrosjunio9022 She burned her child with cigarettes - she doesn't deserve the same type of sympathy as other characters do.
Don’t forget Phil’s kid brother Billy
I'd say thats Adriana
I love that the truck Phil crashes into is a Boar’s Head truck. That’s not a coincidence.
4:40
The song playing is ''Rock the Casbah'' BECAUSE it mentions the Iranian revolution which removed the ''Shah'' , just like Tony refers to Phil Leotardo as the '"Shah of Iran''.
😎☝️
Boy borko must’ve really gotten under your collar, admit it, you wanna crack him for posting sopranos videos
I don't know what your talking about.
Christopher's audacity at this point was disgusting. Does your "friend" waltz into your house and break shit over your head?? ☹
sometimes a fella is asking for it, you know what i mean?
J.T. did himself no favors continuing to wuss out on paying his debt to Christopher.
No one told him to gamble, and he knew the kind of people he was playing up against with. He has to the gall to call Christopher a prick, and while that's true, that doesn't change the fact that J.T. is the one who gambled himself into debt, and Christopher was sick of waiting for him to pay up.
J.T.'s excuse "I need more time", indicates he believes he's entitled to it because he believes he and Christopher are friends (they're not, Chris is a low-life junkie hitman, J.T. a hopeless gambler). Christopher brings him back to Earth on this one (with a little help from Little Paulie).
I'll give J.T. some slack, by the end of his arc on the show he has made the effort to stay sober and has even managed to snag the L&O writing gig that he was rejected for in this episode. Once J.T. paid off his debt he would have been better off getting as far away from Christopher as possible.
ALL renditions of "Happy Birthday Mr. President" were cringe. Even the original. It's just that Marilyn was hot.
immediately thought of Skyler singing to Ted in Breaking Bad and yes, principle confirmed
@@sundjatamb3061 almost equal in cringe level, and Skyler and Ted were at least closer in age 🤢
That scene is horrifying.
Considering the horn dog he was, I found it admirable Tony passed on Fran. Fran joined Annalisa (for purely business reasons) and Julianna in a very exclusive club of Tony's rejects.
I mean, tony did go to town on valentina when he saw that old dog photo with the dress on.
I'm very surprised he didn't bang Fran and Tracee( probaly just because Ralph already was)
I was gonna wait till you finished the series before I started your analysis, but I can't wait. And I might have to watch the whole series again...
_In Camelot_ is a great episode... with one of my favorite endings of any of them: that look on Tony's face, after spilling a bunch of - what he knows to be - BS to "the guys" about his father's mistress, with the brilliant music/sound design backing him. So many conflicting things going on in him at that moment; _very_ ambiguous - like the final scene of the episode when Ton' and Chris "take care of" Ralph and clean up at The Bing - Tony shouts out for Chris after falling asleep, can't find him, and opens the backdoors into a shocking blast of light; doesn't seem menacing, but the way it's filmed, it's brilliant.
The sincerity with which Christopher is both a scumbag enforcer and a caring sponsor (and I really do think he is sincere and feels he is 100% fair separating the two) was fantastic - and amazing...
Tony Soprano Sr. had terrible taste in women.
Even during the flashback scene she had an old hag voice. They should have used a different voice actress or something.
IDK if Livia in that flashback hated Tony for lying about the Yankee game when she had the miscarriage. She was likely more pissed at Johnny and Tony was in a horrible spot and she was thinking "here we go, like father like son".
Uncle Junior and Bobby keep getting more likeable with each episode.
a lot of old people during lockdown would've been pulling a junior
Hey Kino old buddy I've missed ya! Great video as always. Johnny on the spot where you showed Olivia hating Tony for good. Love how you point out that these characters, even the minor ones like Johnny boy and franny are terrible people yet are written so well and are so human you can't keep your eyes off them. Cheers!
Johny was a saint.
Junior couldn't carry his socks
It is depressing when the one place you can be happy in life is at funerals. That is when you know that you have messed up in life. Sure crime life pays, but it also leads to terrible situations like this.
Legend says the only reason Fran was Tony's dad's goomah was because Kino told her to kick rocks after doing that creepy ass song and dance number
It was always very cool that Polly Bergen was cast as Fran. She was one of the great Television actresses of her time.
She was pure evil and a user she didn’t care about tony neither Johnny boy she wanted money all along that’s why she got close too Tony and finally Tony realize she was playing him
Can't wait for the Breaking Bad logs... Please make that a thing, when the time comes...
Michael Franceze says that his father had an affair with a woman who also was the mistress of JFK, I wonder if the characters are based on each other, or is he just using the story.
I don't know. JFK went through women like water through a sieve.
@@KutWrite cant avoid when you’re a man of power
Thank you for not playing the audio of her singing Happy Birthday Mr. President. I will never be prepared to listen to that without cringing
“It’s one for the road, honey” god damn girl
I think the whole point of the episode was to be cringe worthy and show how Tony is willing to idolize his father, and vilify his mother.

PK: HBO, I got to meet Borko at the restaurant.
I cant believe in a show with brutal murders the happy birthday scene made me the most uncomfortable
Happy biiiirthday Mister Kiiiiinoooo...

the breaking bad happy birthday is a little more cringy bc there are more people there lol
The "Rock the Casbah" song was a reference to Phil being called the Shah of Iran
Please do a video on “Long Term Parking”! Easily one of the best episodes in the entire show. Poor Adriana deserved so much better.
He's doing them in order I think 👍
Actually the JFK administration was labeled "Camelot" posthumously by Jackie Kennedy in order to idealize the administration. Kennedy supporters, and Kennedy himself, would have found such a label ridiculous during JFK's life. The title is also a reference to the title song from the musical "Camelot".jthe song repeats the refrain "In Camelot..."
Weirdest scene in this episode is when Tony is fucking Valentina but gets more into it when he sees a painting of two dogs on the wall. Shocked it wasn’t mentioned in this video tbh.
Oh man I could never sit through Fran singing to Tony🤮🤮🤮Great job again man!!
Christopher's storyline with the guy from Wings is similar to Tony's storyline with the guy from Terminator 2. In both cases the mobster is able to compartmentalize the world of gambling their two friends voluntarily entered. So, to Christopher, the beating was simply something the Wings guy asked for when he decided to gamble with mob money, it wasn't personal.
Yeah. And just like Todd in Breaking Bad.
@@KutWrite Todd IMHO is the single most evil character in television history. I think its because they played off the "Opie Cunningham" archetype and then made him a cold blooded human

for the actress who played fran to appear cringe while singing means she was a good actress. Her name was Polly Bergen and In real life she was world famous singer. Singing and staring in movies in the 1950s and still winning tonys on Broadway when she was in her 70s. Here she is on a show in 1959.

@6:40 Give Fran a break. Fran was a Sexy AF Redhead back in her day. It's a drag, but we all get old. I found it interesting that you didn't mention that "Rock The Casbah" is about the banning of rock music in Iran and that just so happens to be what Phil "The Shah Of Iran" Letardo was listening to...unless *gasp* you didn't know...
Imagine what would have happened if Junior decided to go with Tony to visit Johnny and Livia's graves or if years earlier Fran decided to visit when Livia was there with Junior and AJ?
