Great Video and view of Central Park. A long time ago I was on a flight from Boston to LAX and we were cruising at 39,000 FT. It was sunset and NYC was beautiful directly below us !!
Commenting from southern RI on this 1/24/20 at 650am ESt...Awesome landing at LaGuardia Airport...on that warm humid summer's day...... Lovely view while flying over Manhattan....I was last there on 4/15/85...while driving a taxicab from Port Washington LINY to the Wall Street area...quite a hairy experience too....from almost 35 years ago.....Beautiful video..I LUVS it.
I remember, c 1980, flying into LaGuardia from the city side when we still had those tall ‘H’ TV aerials on each house. It seemed as if we were going to clean them off the rooftops !!!
I live in Brooklyn in the descent pattern of LGA in East Williamsburg. Matter of fact, a plane just went over head. Its always a cooler view from the sky. Love it. Thanks for the video
Thoroughly enjoyed that ,I remember taking video when I was coming back from Israel. Got a hand it to most pilots, what a great job. And how trusting we are to put our lives in their hands.
Pretty great view of Manhattan island. I used to frequently fly in and out of La Guardia. Favorite landing approach was when runway 04 was active: would usually fly south on the NJ side of Hudson River, providing a spectacular view of the entire Manhattan skyline from GW Bridge to Battery, left turn to line up on runway 04 just south of Statue of Liberty with an equally spectacular view of the Battery and bridges leading downtown from Brooklyn. It was like getting a three-minute Circle Line tour from the air. I ALWAYS requested left-side window seats when I knew the wind was from the north at La Guardia.
Great video. We lived just outside of NYC in NJ, years ago. We live out in the country in Florida now but watching this video it's hard to believe that there are millions of people living so close together. Actually makes me a bit homesick. Thumbs up.
Nice view. As often and I fly into LGA on business, I never get tired of this view. How lucky that the different approach patterns to LGA all take you right over the city. This is one of the best ones, crossing over the very bottom of the island and flying up the Hudson -- basically the reverse route that Sully flew when he landed in the river. Some days NY Approach will have you make that jog to the west a little further south so that you can see all of lower Manhattan if you're sitting on the right hand side of the plane, flying right up the Hudson past the Bronx. The view if you do that after dark on a clear night is just amazing. Thanks for posting!
I used to love flying into LGA at night, when the Mets were playing a night game---the plane would go right over Shea Stadium at low altitude & I could see part of the game!
*I once took a flight that landed in LaGuardia in the evening. And the lights of the Manhattan buildings in the evening was unbelievably beautiful. I've flown this approach quite a few times when I lived there and I always hoped for this approach (the River visual) which is the best approach and why I love flying into LaGuardia(LGA) This approach is truly amazing especially in May, or October or November when the weather tends to get crystal clear. You get to see about 70-80% of the city as you fly up the mouth of the Bay, the Hudson and see the amazing skyscrapers before hooking over The Bronx or lower Westchester for this Runway 22 landing. Sometimes the Expressway visual is where they fly you over Brooklyn and into Queens for a direct fly in over the roofs onto Runway 4, or fishhook you over the old world's Fair grounds and Citifield stadium to bring you into Runway 31. Manhaatan will be on your left side and although impressive, you don't get as close and bird's eye spectacular view as the one featured here.
The best view is when you're making your approach into LGA at night, while there is a ball game going on at Shea (it will always be Shea, no matter of corporate sponsors). Seeing that from the plane is gorgeous. But now living in CA, I have to fly into JFK nonstop from LAX.
Excellent video with a really good view of Manhattan and surrounding area !!! What an amazing metropolis !!! The regular grid layout of the streets looks odd to me. Here in the UK a lot of roads still follow mediaeval ,or earlier, tracks, so they're a bit more irregular.
The flyover during the night is just simply stunning, especially around Time Square area. Like a pinball machine from above. Not so lovely when you are at the ground level.
Spectacular video! I always try to depart LGA by sitting on the left side and hoping the plane takes off towards the west. Even with good weather though, the altitude increases much faster than on descent, so the view is not as close to C.Park/midtown as you got here.
Wow Central Park was great and while I didn't see my bldg specifically from up there since I saw MSG and I live 10 blocks away from it I'm certain I saw my neighborhood!!!!Thanks so much for the unexpected surprise 😊😊😊😊😊
It seems to me to be a longer time than usual flying at the same low altitude. Usually you see the ground coming up until the wheels are on the runway. I am surmising that ATC has put him in a holding pattern until other planes are out of the way. (I really like the no screaming babies part -- it's rare that when I've been flying there isn't one or more at full throttle.)
Normal approach to RWY 22 (its a right hand traffic pattern) when entering the NYC terminal area from the south. North along the west side of Manhattan and the Bronx (Downwind Leg), then a right turn east across the north side of the Bronx (Base leg), and then another right turn south (final approach) down to the runway. That rwy uses a right hand pattern to keep clear of the traffic going in and out of JFK which is about 10 minutes away. LGA is on the north side of Queens and JFK is on the south side of Queens. The NYC terminal area is very busy with 4 airports within 20 miles of each other (KLGA, KJFK, KEWR, KTEB)
Thumbs up for this view. Never seen one like this before. My best bet this flight came from the west or south. No matter what bad things can be said about NYC it would be reckoned among the best cities of all times. Yes I can agree that a lot has changed negatively which are also attributed to the effects of immigration but the great blueprint of a metroplis remains.I've had the opportunity to visit NYC to experience what's it like living there.I Love NYC!
Nice video!!! But.. what's with the xtra "payload dirt" on the leading and trailing edges? Does it provide for a smoother airflow? Or is it Laminar-dirt Air Flow? Even the spoilers appears to be ashamed when deployed!!! United, get some Air-Pride from Qantas!!!
So, in less then 3 minutes, it went from Downtown to Washington heights! I wish the subway can be that fast. Central Park was just a little green rectangle!
I always try for a left-side window seat, so I can see the Statue of Liberty on the straight-in approach to Runway 04. I had trouble getting my bearings in this video, which makes me think there was a more complicated approach. Even driving a car, I lose my way if there are curves.
Vast. At 6:00 what are those buildings the oddly shaped flats I've seen them used in many films is that where the chase scene vegins in the french connection?
And to think that the elite rich will fly from one state or city to another just for lunch. They will fly to the Caribbean or Hawaii for the weekend. Same here. When you see it from the sky it looks so massive and almost impossible as a city. But it all works like clockwork. And when you're there in your neighborhood, it feels almost small.
If I was a pilot, I'd hammer those reverse'rs til I got to the taxi way, then drop a couple gears before signaling my turn, only to deactivate the reverse'rs mid turn....just to look cool :) Might even have my seat slid back and arm out the window Bo Duke style.

I enjoyed watching this vid and that too landing in my fav city NYC !!Super 🌹🌹
Thank you
New York City is also my favorite City to visit
7:45 -- that's right around the time I stop worrying. I figure even if we lose an engine, we maybe can glide. And even if we crash, I might live.
i stop worrying when i get my luggage
I say that to myself when flying. I say no, not here get a bit lower. OK this will do, I can manage to live from here.
I say to myself....thank god I’m not sitting next to a fool just like you😃
Flying into LGA was the most exciting thing in my life. Much better than LAX!
Agreed - lax is just pretty meh. Glad you enjoyed it
Normal approach to RWY 22 (its a right hand traffic pattern) when entering the NYC terminal area from the south.
You know your stuff. Must be a pilot? Thanks for edifying me.

Wow! We have got a lot of work to do to replace all of those buildings. It will take quite a while for just this one city.
I love flying into this airport and the view .
😎👍👀 THXS SOO MUCH Pilots Drivers... Awesome video of NYC
Looks like you guys had a good pilot. Nice Landing.
all pilots are good. . better than good, they're all highly trained. if they weren't "good" they wouldn't be flying those planes.
VERY smooth landing .. Outstanding job!!
A superb film with fascinating aerial views !
Spectacular!!..,phenomenal!..,no zooming.
6:00 Coop City. 7:00 that long line at the botton of the screen is the rail of # 6 train.
Awesome! Must have been a blast!
Nice view of Rikers Island (NYC's main jail complex) at the very end, just before touchdown!...
Amazing view of NYC. Love it!
So, in less then 3 minutes, it went from Downtown to Washington heights! I wish the subway can be that fast. Central Park was just a little green rectangle!
THAN
I remember flying into La Guardia, always seemed like we were crash landing into the water
Exelent quality of video thanks for sharing.
At 2:10-2:16 great view of the worlds most famous arena Madison Square Garden
Cool at 1:40 you can feel the buildings try to reach up to you.
Great landing video!👍 Yes that plane needs a wash though!😂
I always try for a left-side window seat, so I can see the Statue of Liberty on the straight-in approach to Runway 04. I had trouble getting my bearings in this video, which makes me think there was a more complicated approach. Even driving a car, I lose my way if there are curves.
You were right! What a smooth Landing! And a beautiful one at that. Thank you for sharing your footage with us!
The wing looks like it could do with a clean!
Hopefully you gave the pilots a high five! Landing was a 10/10.
Thanks for posting 👍
Vast. At 6:00 what are those buildings the oddly shaped flats I've seen them used in many films is that where the chase scene vegins in the french connection?
Considering the airport is only 8 miles from Manhattan, it seemed like they were covering more territory than that before landing.
Great video. I love flying!
Wooow look at that, we're more worried about what's going on overseas, thought Manhattan was a no fly zone.
That's pretty good view of the city.
Very scenic. Great footage!
And to think that the elite rich will fly from one state or city to another just for lunch. They will fly to the Caribbean or Hawaii for the weekend. Then complain about everyone elses emissions and carbon footprint. But you guys who are commenting are so appreciative of a simple safe landing....I'm one of you! We have to experience the world through UA-cam. I'm not complaining, to just have a PC to use we are so lucky. I am grateful for that.
Flying t NYC again in October.. cant wit.. New York forever. even Covid cant stop me
Can't avoid wanting to go back every time I see a video of this city
Same here. When you see it from the sky it looks so massive and almost impossible as a city. But it all works like clockwork. And when you're there in your neighborhood, it feels almost small.
I enjoyed watching this video. Thanks for sharing.
So well filmed!
A great footage, well done! Greetings from Switzerland
If I was a pilot, I'd hammer those reverse'rs til I got to the taxi way, then drop a couple gears before signaling my turn, only to deactivate the reverse'rs mid turn....just to look cool :) Might even have my seat slid back and arm out the window Bo Duke style.
Amazing video 💯‼️
