My understanding is the white markers above and below the color position lights instruct the engineer on the "speed" he/she can proceed at. I did a bunch of research on line, it got complicated for this brain, and my relay system was capable of monitoring and indicating "occupancy" in the next two (2) blocks, but I have not gone back and tried to incorporate logical speed restrictions or authorizations. Wish the LED's were "warm white", but at the time these brass signals were made, I am not sure Warm White LED's were a thing. I have tried to dim them with higher value resistors, but could, probably should, go back and experiment with dimming the intensity even more.
