Pest identification was Very useful i have not seen this mentioned anywhere before. Only ever had scale insects which are easy to clean off, if you see them 👍
Hi, I know slightly off topic but I have a small evergreen that I collected from the wild last year in the fall (before I found out it was best to collect in the spring) and it has done well until lately. In the past few days it has limp growth tips and I am unsure as to why and wondered if you might be able to shed some light? the tree is potted in tree and shrub container compost. Thanks in advance :)
Great video. Quick question though - if I shorten a candle after it's grown it's new terminal bud, will it generate a new bud? Keep in mind I've only shortened the candle, not removed the new foliage entirely.

Can you do a video on the fukien tea tree, I have found other videos but I trust your knowledge more than others. Also can you do a video on trunk cutting. I bought a couple trees from Walmart that were trunk cut and it definetly thickened the trunk. I have started clipping from my trees so I may have to trunk cut eventually. Thank you for all your knowledge and time💖
Fukien Tea is a very difficult species to grow in the Northern hemisphere - They dont like being grown as indoor bonsai. They are OK in the hot tropics but not elsewhere. I may do a video on Indoor bonsai species one day.

Thank you for the informative videos. Is there a ratio for pot size compared to the size of the tree? I am thinking of buying a 3-4 ft Scots Pine, just wondering how big of a container to grow it in?
Do you have videos on how to form a crown on pines when it becomes okay to throw the rule of thumb out that says don't have branches in 3s? I no usually you only want 2 or nothing in the same line as other branches. Or basically wait for back buds? Hope you understand what I trying to say. I find it hard at times on collected material as I don't want reverse taper any where meaning it will still look uniform in 10 15 years.!
just in general, keep pines more on the dryer side (root rot will kill these things pretty quick if kept wet for days). just feel how heavy the entire planting is when it's dry - then water it and feel the weight again. as soon as it feels similiar in weight to when it's dry water it again. the soil i use for pretty much any conifer is about 30% akadama, 30% pumice or perlite, 20% fine lava rock, 10% composted pine bark and 10% rhododendron soil (basically to keep a more acidic soil pH level)
@@Tore1972Wisdom you're most welcome to. technically this soil mixture is for refined material but you might as well use the best composition imo from the start :)
It seems my Picea with fat trunks seem to bud back better than the skinny ones, also the ones I have in large 5 gal pots to fatten them up bud back better than the ones in Bonsai soil.

No I just compost them. The heat of the compost heap should kill the bugs

here in Brazil we use ground roof tile, look for "como fazer caqueira para bonsai”.
But how does one treat this white adelgid pest?

No we spray with an insecticide and then after a day we jet the dead insects off with a hose pipe

The wood will eventually grow over it ant it wont leave a trace after some years. That said, I wouldnt want any metal inside my tree...
