War Story was most impressive in the stretch... dead last to fast closing third.
Getting to the finish line first is the most important thing. If you hang back and lolly gag the the entire race, you SHOULD be able to be moving well in the stretch. But that doesn't do ya any good, because well, no prizes for "moving well in the stretch". Hope that helps.

If that horse had top tier jockeys/trainers/and owners during his time he would have been considered one of the greats IMO...
Man, if they had let him go just a bit sooner he would have taken the race. He got stuck behind horses in the backstretch and had to run wide, but man did he kick in then. A little Zenyatta ish.
@@siiripellegrom8924 Everyone talks about "Running late" and horses that "came fast at the end". Uhh. So what. If a horse went full bore out of the gate for the first half mile and had a big lead then faded to last, ya don't hear many say "Oh, man, but did you see him? He was way ahead after a half mile! If the race were shorter, he had it in the bag!!!"
Troy Carlson that is true. A horse that does that is in the wrong race though. They may be fast, but if they can’t hold it, they don’t win races, they are just speed horses that tire to give the distance horses a break till the end. Some front runners have a ton of stamina. American Pharoah for instance was a front runner who could hold the front for the whole race which I find quite amazing. Having a late kick however, is a huge gamble as to how long to hold back the horse, and how long it will take him to find his stride. War story here has a huge kick at the end and and really it’s his jockey that failed him, just like Zenyatta vs Blame. I admire a horse with that strength reserve at the end that can cover that much distance. It’s a lot of precision and a lot of power.

I just can't watch this. It's so unfair that not all horses can be happy and loved by their owner. It's just sad to watch. Horses need love and help. Horses love to run free without any tack and not like this. It's harming them. I can't believe that almost all the comments are so supporting this sport it's just so disappointing...🙏💔

I agree with Peachy Beach because I couldn't bare watching the end when the literally whack the horse over and over. I understand like one to get the horse going but in my opinion I dont think that's the best for a horse
That's cool, if you use it correctly (which they aren't in my opinion) but as they are being used here It isnt good for the horse. Their skin isnt as thick as ours even! Though they are strong they still feel pain.Personally I'm against horse racing if you dont do it with care

A fair point but at the same time that horse maybe just paced better, based off those splits. So if the horse stayed up closer it probably would have tired faster.

There is horse named" War Hammer" that has won all the major races here in India. Also, check for horse named " Sir Cecil" on UA-cam.

@@hollyhs3222 that’s actually not at all what it is. It’s an air spur, the noise spurs the cracking noise spurs them on. Doesn’t hurt them.
No horse ever (male or female) can match the "late kick" of the great race mare Zenyatta! Always coming far off the pace, and the soundly beating the field. She should have beaten Blame if Mike Smith had let her go earlier.
She shoulda went 100-0 if the owners woulda let her run. Coulda shoulda woulda.
Zenyatta was incredible but horses such as Strike the Gold, Forego, Monarchos, Winx, Kotashaan, Fraise had equally devastating late kicks.

Absolutely, had horses racing at G-Stream a few years back, the races are fixed, the nominations for the races are also fixed and suspect that the jockeys ride according to somebody´s order, but not the trainers.
The tracks surface is a disaster, basically you are racing on a beach, there are deep and hard spots, some spots almost like quicksand. My trainer´s horse broke a leg stepping in a deep soft spot during a breeze, killed on the spot.

Does the whips that they use to make the horses go faster hurt? I would think they do.
The whips they use have the ends encased with thick foam rubber. Virtually all the racing whips used these days were designed by a retired jockey, Ramon Dominguez, and are called 360 Gentle Touch whips. Google it. You will see close photos of them and how they are designed. There is also a video here on YT where the 360 GT is discussed and a guy takes the "whip" and actually whips himself with it. All they really do is make a loud popping noise and not much else.
You are obviously uneducated and you nothing about horse racing. The "whips" as you call them make a very loud pop, the jockeys are not allowed to hit a horse in the flank area and if they can prove them being hit anywhere besides the shoulder or rump, the jockey is fined and suspended. Most make sure they use the crop correctly and even now there are new rules about how often and when it is appropriate to use during a race.
Angie Alberts and now In Canada not sure if maybe some racetracks in America the jockeys cannot turn the crop over and hit them in a forehand position ...jockeys here are having problems getting accustomed to that style 😪
