This band, Bazooka Joe, was a hub of future famed talent. They got together about 1970, having had changes in sound, personnel, and format. They became a fixture in the "pub rock" scene by the time of this recording "Rockin' in A♭". The Sex Pistols opened for them in 1975 (the Pistols' first real gig).
One Bazooka Joe guitarist, John Ellis, eventually went on to punk bands the Vibrators the Stranglers. He also was part of the Peter Gabriel Band and Peter Hamill's Van der Graff Generator.
Pat Collier also joined the Vibrators, then became a music producer for acts such as the Wonder Stuff and for Katrina & the Waves.
Their other guitarist, Danny Kleinman, later became a video director working on James Bond projects as well as numerous music videos.
Their bassist Stuart L. Goddard became the famous Adam Ant (frontman of Adam & the Ants).
The drummer, Dan Barson, has a brother, Mike, who is the keyboardist for ska group Madness (which later covered this very track "Rockin' in A♭").
Backup vocalist Arabella Weir went on to became a successful comedienne.

Hi! I really appreciate your effort , I’m a big fan of The Vibrators ,i used to do some research of their side projects (Despair, Lipstick,Inmates) or bands they played in before, and the name Bazooka Joe was always there. And of course because of Adam Ant! I paid and expansive price price for that 45 and with it came a lot of questions! Kind of Mysterious band! What you said make sense ; it was probably made for personnal use or something....I found the band clipping you see in my videos , And i’m presently looking for any memorabilia, informations or other recordings by B.J. If anyone can help !?

      @@rockrecords222s Yes...
I would guess the tape was recorded for personal use. However, because so many musicians of note came from this group (and because this song, in particular, was covered by Madness on their world hit album "One Step Beyond") it was probably met with some demand as a bootleg at the time of pressing... Bootlegs can often be quite mysterious because nobody wants to take the blame/credit for an illegal release.

I really appreciate the extrapolation/possible provenance of This 45 and B.J. I kind of felt i was the only one in the world who want to hear more about them! On a gloomy day, it got brighter when I saw myself described above as Lee (pub rock) Kosmin. I was at one time the lead singer in Bazooka Joe, but well before this was recorded. Thanks for putting this up.

It is possible this live track was recorded in 1974, and pressed on vinyl much later. The recording of poor quality might likely have been for personal use or self recording. The later fame of many of the members might have justified public release (whether legal or bootleg).
Thank you for posting this song. I am familiar with this song, and I knew the history... but I never heard the original until seeing your post. Cheers!

I was at Hornsey School of Art on foundation and got to know the band as some of them were in the years above .. .. I went to the infamous Sex Pistols gig at St Martins 11/75 with three mates and later booked BJ for a couple of college gigs in Brighton .. .. I can still recall some of their songs and would love to hear tapes of them .. .. 750cc, Ambre Soleil, Will he wont he, Pipeline,

For a while in 1978/79 I was involved in writing, recording and producing a bunch of tracks with Pat Collier (one time Bazooka Joe bass player) potentially for Stiff Records. One of them was a solo track by BJ main man Daniel Kleinman, under the name of Danny Angel. I recently found a cassette of the track, "Dangerous Fish" in my box room, and aim to upload it to my channel in the near future. Watch this space!

Bazooka Joe morphed into Danny and the Nogoodniks. They performed in London pubs and clubs in the early 1980s. A single 'Bike' (from the Bazooka Joe repertoire) was released on the Chrysalis label in 1982. It was produced by Adam Ant and Marco Pirroni.
