@@kitchenraw I myself feel RAW has definitely more potential in comparison to the log recording in emulation and stuff although if you do ETTR which is obvious I guess and I also most of the times record how a film would behave with the shadows and highlights. What I mean is it's easier to recover details in the highlights but you cannot recover shadows on film so I intentionally kill the shadows when the scene isn't very dynamic and my subject has enough lighting/I am shooting silhouttes. If you aren't specifically asking for film emulation then you can use a cst and use Sony Venice luts . I used to use them a lot both with raw and log and it gave good results. Rn I have the Fujifilm xh2s film emulation lut from their site which works great even when used in the app.
When you are rendering the files from the app, there is a detailed noise reduction section. It works by pixel bining 4x to 16x, if I am not wrong. There were some parts I also used Davinci's noise reduction tool as an extra, but just for a short scene.
@petithor I just looked it up again, and I was wrong. It is not pixel bining but another technology. It uses multiple frames to get more light data to denoise a single frame. What developers' website says: The denoising algorithm uses bayer RAW images as input. Motion Cam treats the RAW data as four colour channels (red, blue and two green channels). It starts by creating an optical flow map between a set of images and the reference image utilising Fast Optical Flow using Dense Inverse Search. Then, each colour channel is fused using a simplified Gaussian pyramid. So it won't reduce the resolution at all.
@@Requiemes No, this is all handheld. Some of the footages (3x camera and 10x camera) in this video has image stabilization with Davinci Resolve. Honestly most of the flagship phones works well with MotionCam App. So far I used it with s23, s23U, s24, s24U and Pixel Pro 8. Motioncam App has a list of compatible phones in their website that you might want to check
@@kitchenraw oh yeah i got the pixel 8 pro and motioncam pro already, i meant about gimbals, I still have to try the gyro data option to see if it can help with the stabilization in post. I got a dji RS3 for work that I use with an a7iv but it's kinda overkill with a smartphone and with the cost of a cage + adapter + counterweight I could just buy a cheap smartphone gimbal I guess
How do you handle the huge file size? Do you just constantly transfer the videos from ur phone to PC during the entire shoot? These days premium phones dont support SD cards anymore
@@TheMasterofComment My phone has 512gbyte memory. But I also carry an SSD hard drive and when you plug an SSD to your phone with usb-c it directly records to the SSD drive. Just like pro cameras you can record everything into the external hard drive without using your phone memory. I use a Samsung T7 hard drive chich works without any issues. @@sidersproductions941 You can only record 4k 120 fps in pro mode with the main camera. MotionCam is not supporting 120 fps RAW recording, it is to much overload to the sensor and cpu.
@@kitchenraw yeah I figured that. I’m familiar with their pro video mode since I had the S22 Ultra and loved it. May use it for “normal videos” and stick to 4k60,30, and 24 for the cinematic stuff.
After rendering my dng files into a video I delete all dng files. Whole Istanbul videos were taking 2 tb of space. I will visit istanbul again this summer and record more and I will definitely send it you, I am curious how other people color grade images :D Or I can just test record something in Houston where I live if you like to play around. @kc4ca Bahsettigin kisimi cekerken hava kararmisti neredeyse ve ocak ayinda cekmistim, o mavilik oradan geliyor editlenmemis hali daha da maviydi. Ince ayrintiya girip aslinda o mavilik giderilebilirdi. Fakat bu video yu genel bir review olarak ele aldigim icin ayrinti girip videoyu uzatmak istemedim. Video uzayinca daha az izleniyor ;) Ama bir sonraki review yaparken biraz daha spesifik ilgilenebilirim soyledigin gibi.

@@dand.1941 There is no saved data for the color grading specifically for this video. I basically increased the Saruration 60% 70% percent, increased the shadows around 50% percent. On top of that I used the Dehancer Film Emulation plug-in that you can see the details in the video. Dehancer plug-in has it's own color science for each emulation used in this video.
I was using Pixel 8 pro and didn't experience any dropped frames. Considering that raw recording is rely on ram ang cpu maybe that can be the issue. Regular Pixel 8 has 8gb ram, Pixel 8 pro version has 12gb. I would suggest making sure that you close all the apps in the background and turn off gps, mobile data etc to give all ram power to Motioncam app while recording.

@@atlesg If I record nonstop for 5mins, yes it warms up but not so bad. It is normal probably bc you are using the ram, hard drive and cpu with almost full capacity. That's why cinema cameras that shoots raw video has internal sensor cooling fan.

Davinci has a free version and pro version, which is perfect. Dehancer looks expensive, but it is a lifelong purchase, so I don't think it's bad. Also, you don't have to buy the pro pack. You can purchase only the film grain or bloom effects way cheaper.
I don't think so. Maybe 3 years ago, you might be right, but now it is definitely worth it. I also show the dng raw workflow just to explain the working principles, but you can actually record slog 10bit videos without the hustle of recording raw dng. If you are familiar with the cinema cameras like arri, black magic, sony they all work the same. I don't think it will harm your memory chip but if you are worried about that you can directly record into a ssd external by plugging into your phone.
I did more tests this morning compared to 400mb to 1200 mb, and the difference is very small; a person needs to zoom in and nitpick to see the difference, so I would say 400 mb is the max at which it shows a good jump from 230 mb, so I suggest a person stick to 400mb. directlog

Bunlarin yaninda en uyguna en yuksek bit rate alabilecegin kamera ise Canon un ilk aynasiz kamerasi olan Eos M (icinde Magic Lantern kurulu olan) bu kamerayi $150 dolara bulabilirsin. Elinde Canon lensin var ise kucuk bir converter ile Canon lenslerini de kullanabilirsin. Biraz mesakkatli bir ogrenim sureci olabilir ve dusuk isikta biraz grenlenme yaratabilir fakat inanilmaz bir kalitesi ve renk teknolojisi var bu Magic Lantern yuklenmis Canon Eos M lerin. @@dand.1941 There is no saved data for the color grading specifically for this video. I basically increased the Saruration 60% 70% percent, increased the shadows around 50% percent. On top of that I used the Dehancer Film Emulation plug-in that you can see the details in the video. Dehancer plug-in has it's own color science for each emulation used in this video.

My Pixel 8 starts dropping frames if there's even a slight hint of sun hitting the phone, because of CPU throttling. Do you face any such problems?
I was using Pixel 8 pro and didn't experience any dropped frames. Considering that raw recording is rely on ram ang cpu maybe that can be the issue. Regular Pixel 8 has 8gb ram, Pixel 8 pro version has 12gb. I would suggest making sure that you close all the apps in the background and turn off gps, mobile data etc to give all ram power to Motioncam app while recording.

@@atlesg If I record nonstop for 5mins, yes it warms up but not so bad. It is normal probably bc you are using the ram, hard drive and cpu with almost full capacity. That's why cinema cameras that shoots raw video has internal sensor cooling fan.

Dehancer is expensive. I better buy Davinci Resolve
Davinci has a free version and pro version, which is perfect. Dehancer looks expensive, but it is a lifelong purchase, so I don't think it's bad. Also, you don't have to buy the pro pack. You can purchase only the film grain or bloom effects way cheaper.

I don't think so. Maybe 3 years ago, you might be right, but now it is definitely worth it. I also show the dng raw workflow just to explain the working principles, but you can actually record slog 10bit videos without the hustle of recording raw dng. If you are familiar with the cinema cameras like arri, black magic, sony they all work the same. I don't think it will harm your memory chip but if you are worried about that you can directly record into a ssd external by plugging into your phone.
I did more tests this morning compared to 400mb to 1200 mb, and the difference is very small; a person needs to zoom in and nitpick to see the difference, so I would say 400 mb is the max at which it shows a good jump from 230 mb, so I suggest a person stick to 400mb. directlog
