The original lyrics is still sang in my church till today. My church didn't change it. And I like it unchanged. The hymn is mostly sang during dedication of officers in church. It's a commissioning hymn.
Hello! I grew up in the Methodist Church and I love the hymns. We sang Wesley hymns of course, but not this one. I do think I like the second melody best. Thank you.
Only that..we don't have a soul,we ARE a soul and we are not immortal, only God is.. discipleship is our first joyful duty and great privilege! Gbu dear Luke! 🙏😇📖🔥💝🧎♀️🪔☝😃🎶
It is not a song I am familiar with but I was not brought up in the Methodist church, however my grandmother attended one as she lived in the country & it was the only denomination where she lived. The Cambridge tune I recognised though so I suspect other hymns were sung to it as well. We sing a beautiful hymn called, All glory be to Christ, & the music is to Auld Lang Syne. So many hymns were sung to secular songs of old like the music to Greensleeves.
During our homeschool years, the children often chose this hymn due to its briefness.😊 But hopefully, the message was still conveyed.
Thank you so much Luke for these classic Friday sessions. I truly look forward to them each week.
I am blessed by this hymn in Jesus' Mighty Name
🙏 ❤
Thank you, Pastor Powell
May God bless you abundantly. 🙏 🙏
I learnt this hymn as a child. On becoming a Christian years later, the first verse has deeply inspired me. I know the second tune.
A good reminder of our priesthood . Thanks Luke for sharing. May God bless your ministry.
We still sing this hymn in church

11:47 The United Methodist Hymnal restored the original lyrics.
