    Oh yes, hibernation season is definitely on the way! I love your little seedlings in their tiny pots, they're so adorable, Lyn. My seedlings are now a year old and still very small. They're still in their baggies and are probably going to stay in there until next spring. I noticed some of them going somewhat yellow on top and wonder if this something to worry about? Do they perhaps need more air at this point? As always, a fantastic video from your little cactus paradise which is a delight to watch! Stay safe and keep doing your plant power magic! Love from the East Coast xxx :-)

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  3 роки тому

      So happy you love these little cactus cuties Jutta :-D and thats wonderful your seedlings are a year old, sometimes the tops of young seedlings can go yellow but its usually down to the fresh new growth and rarely anything to worry about, but if you are concerned you could open up the baggies very slightly about half an inch to allow a bit of airflow into the bags, its always a dilemma with our seedlings when they are so young and small

    The overnight lows here in Somerset normally don't start dipping to 5C or below til the end of November on average. Light frosts are only a few each year, and these tend not to come until the end of January, due to the warm Bristol Channel nearby and mild SW trade winds.
    With the 10C+ tropicals in since (mid October), I'm now looking to bring in the next batch of 5C+ sub tropicals and seedlings by next week or two as well. My greenhouse is unheated all year round due to the scarcity of frosts and snow, but even so, it will get down to 1-5C lows by mid January for a few weeks.
    Due to a gradually warming winter climate I no longer heat my greenhouse. Years ago I used to in January and February every year but not anymore. The last time I heated my greenhouse was a few days during the beast from the east, March 2018 where temps got down to -2C for a few days.
    I look forward to your next vlogs about overwintering. J,

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  3 роки тому

      Thats fantastic that you don't need to heat your greenhouse James, that saves money and such a relief with the not so cold night temps, we are lucky with the temps being mild here in Winter too, but the humidity is awful, so much wet and rain in Ireland and even worse here in Northern Ireland haha, its definitely getting warmer over the past decade or two, I remember as a kid in the 1970's haha, the snow and icicles in the winters, but we rarely get that now, 2018 the beast from the east and 2009/10 was the last real cold winter I remember, lets hope this winter passes fast and mild again too :-D thanks so much James for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Somerset for a terrific Tuesday today XXXXX
