Sometimes price justifies quality, sometimes it doesn’t. And as a consumer and a denim dude I found that in most cases raw denim doesn’t have a precise universal measurement of quality when quality can be partially defined by marketing. After trying many brands I’ve come to realise that what really counts is the time that I can live in my jeans comfortably and in an aesthetically pleasing way to myself. Also being able to have a channel like this is priceless, looking forward to new contents

Glad to see brave star get some love. They were my gateway jeans, and still in my rotation. From what I understand based on the 5 pairs I've purchased, your pair was not cone mills denim. Three of them have been in the Cone Mills denim, and all of them had an additional tag inside the waist with the Cone Mills logo.
As far as the customer service goes. The only interaction i had with them was pretty bad. My issue was resolved, but they took so long with evey reply that it took over a month to fix what should have taken a few hours. In thier defense this took place during the pandemic so staffing could very likely be an unavoidable issue.

You are totally right about the Cone Mills tag above the American Made tag inside the waistband. On my Type II Badlands jacket, it's on the inside patch pocket.

I actually had a pretty good customer service interaction with them. I ordered the Ironside Sherpa in Large because I typically wear large in all tops, but I'm realizing I'm actually an XL now that I've been lifting a lot heavier and I've gained some mass. So I returned it and I didn't even do the return correctly, just stuffing it in a box and mailing it out with no order number or information anywhere. I sent an email to customer service, and they said "no problem" and issued the credit as soon as the got the jacket back.

@@VoiceOfTheWhirlwind i definitely dont people to think they have bad costumer service. I love me some brave star, I've got three of thier jackets and 5 pairs of thier pants. But I figured it would help to share my personal experience. From what ive heard they were short staffed last year and that. The issues with costumer service should be resolved now.

I have their type 2 Badlands jacket in heritage black cone mills and just received some 16.5 oz Japanese "uppercuts" yesterday and I love them both. Great quality, and awesome attention to detail. The price is mind-blowing for what they are. I've heard they have some QA issues here and there but so does every brand. Best of all, I ordered my 16.5 oz with a hem and they still shipped them SAME DAY some how. It took unbranded 2 weeks to get me my order without a hem and those were no where near as nice as these. The pocket bags on mine are substantial, almost a canvas like feel to them, akin to the hickory picket bags on my unbranded slubs. The denim has a lot of character and it's a nice cowboy dark indigo rather than the super dark you see on many bands these days. The leather patch is ridiculously thick, like 3/8ths inch. For the regular taper I find the rise to be better than almost anything unbranded or n&f offer. Back rise is 14.5 inches on the reg taper.
The jacket is my favorite piece of clothing I currently own, I love the style and fit. The inside weft is surprisingly soft and the pleats on the front and back are well done and sturdy. I definitely reccomend the brand if you can look past the QA issues and customer service complaints. If you're in the US it's a no brainer.

I love their Jean's, but I LOVE their jackets. I have a type III sherpa (IRONSIDE) in double black and a type II in cone mills indigo. Both of them had a lot of long threads, but, a pair of scissors, a lighter, and 5 minutes takes care of that. For $170 US, it's worth it. Get used to stares and compliments when you wear the type II.

I have never had an issue with any of the Bravestar jeans I have purchased. Which means I do not have any experience with their customer service. Over the years they have offered some fantastic denims from lightweight to 20+ oz heavyweights at great prices. I typically go for their Japanese selvedge but did buy a few Cone denims when the factory was shut down. Bravestar offers 5 jean fits, from skinny to straight. Fit descriptions with measurements are posted on their site. I also like their selvedge chinos and denim jackets.

I am very new to selvage denim. I am also sitting here wearing a Brave Stare Ironside jacket. They are pretty clear (and it seems a bit rudely stated) on their site.... that if anything happens in shipping you are on your own. But they also charge you a $2.75 shipping insurance fee that I was not able to remove from my cart. I didn't have any issues, and I do enjoy the jacket, but I was worried about their lack of customer service. I personally would have filed a claim with my CC company if anything went wrong in shipping, as I never received the product it would not be my responsibility to fix any issues. As someone who does a fair amount of business selling on the second hand market (when you do reviews this is something we all deal with), it is my responsibility when something goes wrong when I am the seller/shipper. So they assume responsibility until it is in my position. And they can eat the charge back if they are not going to help.

One thing i havent seen content creators mention in regards to why Brave Star and also Naked and Famous Jeans are so popular are the sizes.
As a guy with about a 40-42" waist right now, the 2 brands i mentioned are honestly some of the only brands with jeans easily available in my size! One of my Grail brands is SugarCane Jeans; but im gunna have to lose some weight first. Not so with Brave Star & Naked and Famous. I'm incredibly grateful for that.
That said, BOTH brands need options with a much higher rise!!!

Brave and Gustin are both outstanding but both have small brand issues from time to time. They have always corrected the issues best to there ability the hard part is wanting more as customers we expect the world from them lol.
Brave has jackets best in class with shape and style that star ⭐️ is gold once you get your pair going jeans or jackets. Gustin has extra options besides straight denim. My favorite cone natural black jeans from Gustin super well done brave added cone natural black to a badlands jacket I compared both to confirm they are both cone mil from the white Id was just curious to see if they were using a similar batch lol the sad part is cone mil denim is running low from both companies so buying what I can as it come up

I have had a pretty good experience with Bravestar customer service. Had a button break when I received them and one pair that was mis-sized. They were great to deal with. They did ask for pictures of the jeans with a tape measure on sizing question. After that they replaced them. The True Straight size seems to be the best fit for me. And I'm long torso'd with thicker legs as well.

Had a button fly hole done wrong and they replaced them no questions. Sometimes they'll even turn around hemming same day your jeans arrive if that person is there. Their 21oz are great faders. My all black sherpa jacket from Bravestar was falling apart after only 2 weeks' worth of wear. Stitching coming out all over the place. I had to snip and singe a LOT of loose strands from buttons, button holes, and places where the sherpa was sewn to the denim. It looked a mess and some of the button holes were very much compromised and on their way to getting even worse, I could see.
When I placed my hands into the pockets, my fingers where able to push around the parts where the button studs connected to the fabric and so I was careful to not move my hands around too much so as to not damage those areas and cause damage. It felt so weak. Sold that disappointing piece of "selvedge" before it became unsellable. After experiences with RGT, 3Sixteen, and especially Iron Heart, it's hard to settle for something so mediocre. What this "Man in Black" jacket had going for it is that no one else, at the time, was selling an all black raw denim sherpa type 3. It's a cool combo but the execution has serious quality issues. If you are new to the selvedge world or are used to mall-quality denim then you might not notice. Getting into higher end selvedge is an expense rabbit hole which you will never be able to free yourself from.Do yourself a favor and just stick to lower end, entry level quality which Bravestar seems to be putting out. Perhaps the other offerings they have are better. I don't know.
I'll also mention I had placed an order for their 20 oz hoodie. When I had received it after a month's pre-order wait time, I weighed the hoodie against my 3Sixteen hoodie, advertised as 500 grams which may be about 17 ounces, of the same size and found the 3Sixteen hoodie to weigh more. Felt like weight from Bravestar was being falsely advertised but even if it was just a difference in overall weight due to differences in materials, it just hadn't felt like the overall quality was where it needed to be. It was very basic.

I've owned a few pairs of jeans from Brave Star and sold all but one. I wasn't happy with the denim used for the other pairs and the one I kept is a 14.5oz Cone Mills in True Straight. It's an excellent fit and a great denim, though I do wish it was heavier. Brave Star's customer service is so awful that I refuse to purchase anything new from them. I don't care how cheap something is, if you make - you stand by it. And that ain't Brave Star. Their phone number is for looks only and get used to waiting a loooong time between email replies.

I bought two pairs of the double black slim straights in a size 36 and only received one of two and didn't fit at all. I was able to buy like four pairs of jeans from their Black Friday sale with the store credit they gave me which is amazing, I just hope I get them all and they fit. Matt, I wanted to ask a question about soaking, and thought this might be the best video to get a reply on.
Because of where I live being a bit damp and cold, drying jeans after a soak can take upwards of 3 days which is frustrating, would putting the jeans in the washing machine for a gentle spin cycle inside out after a soak risk giving me the dreaded vertical streaks? Is it best to just wait and not cave to my impatience?
I think the bravestar's look great, and I'd cop but I'm tiny and I'd need like a waist 27 in their sizing... Oh well

Gustin is really not great. They’re like a step above J Crew at their best, worse than Uniqlo at the worst. I think that they put too much time and money into sourcing fabrics, not enough into QC. If someone is looking for entry point selvedge I would suggest they just spend a little more and try TCB or Benzak

What specific issues have you had with Gustin? I have two pairs of pants from them, 5 t-shirts, a henley, and an oxford, and I really like all of them. The oxford is an L Classic Fit and fits just a bit tight, so in the future I'm going to get XL button-downs from them.

@@VoiceOfTheWhirlwind the construction. It’s about the same level I have seen in the above mentioned brands. It’s not bad for the price, but long term I would rather spend more for heavier duty construction.

Good quality Jeans but I don't think there Quality Assurance and Costumer service are all that good. My jeans came with a defect and they did nothing about it... Probably won't buy from them again. If I do though I am going to look very carefully at the quality of my pair and make sure it looks pristine before I even touch it.

Those aren't cone mill denim if there is no cone mill tag in them. That said, they are Japanese denim. Brave Star jeans are awesome but, it's true they need to hire more people to improve customer service. Also, they need to start putting some sort of fit and weight indication in there jeans. If you have more than 2 pair it's hard to tell the weight. Other than that they're great.

The Brave Star shipping problem is because package theft is rampant in California. From my experience their customer service is amazing. Last pair I ordered from them I screwed up. They fixed it and didn't delay my order. Next fall I'll be getting a 21oz Ironside and possibly other stuff in the mean time.
