really impressed by how the Peg 41 improved compared to the 39/40! Looking forward to the new Vomero 18, expecting this to be way more bouncier and energetic than those two shoes above.
It's not just the fact that the Nike is lower stacked and has a higher drop. It's that Nike's midsole designs taper aggressively from the ball of the foot (where the forefoot stack is measured) forward to the toe. So the shoe is even thinner in the toe compared to other shoes than its reported forefoot stack number suggests. This is a design feature in most Nike running shoes, and it's why I've never got on with Nike shoes in general.
Nobody lands on their toes. There is ample cushioning even if you land forefoot. The thinness near the toes makes for a natural toe off. Let one shoe be a bit natural in this sea of squishy, responsive and giant stacked demons.
@anjalirawat5378 Where did I suggest shoes like the Peg should not exist? All I said was that I personally don't care for them with an explanation as to why based on Nike's general design philosophy. Your mileage (literally and figuratively 😂) might of course vary; everyone's preferences are different, that's why there are so many brands and types of shoes. You seem to be taking my statement that I personally don't care for Nike shoes as a disparagement on you personally. It is not.
@anjalirawat5378 Also, I happen to agree with you personally that shoes have generally gotten too soft, and I'm glad that shoes like the Peg continue to be marketed. In my opinion, for example, I think Asics iteration of the Novablast was a shame; the NB4 was a much better shoe to me.
@@MLHunt I took nothing personally. I love the Pegasus and I love shoes like NovaBlasts too. The thing is whenever people talk about the Pegasus, they always say it’s boring, low stacked and it should be more peppy and fun. Guess what, majority of running shoes now are the latter with their stacks, foams and geometry. A shoe like the Pegasus needs to be preserved and cherished for what it is. I’m just afraid that the constant harping about its design by everyone will cause Nike to change it dramatically, this further squeezing any options for buyers who want a traditional feeling shoe
@anjalirawat5378 That's a fair point. I think that pressure from the running media and runners played a part in Asics nerfing the Novablast in this iteration. (It was my favorite shoe until I got my first pair of Superblasts.I tried on the NB5 and walked out of the store without it.) It was a very popular and well-regarded shoe, picked by many as the best daily trainer of the year, but bouncy, squishy, 'fun' shoes got much more attention in the media and among runners. The media are already falling over themselves fawning over the new adidas Lightstrike Pro formulation used in the AP4, and I haven't tried the shoe on yet but I think the AP3 is a very good shoe, and I suspect the AP4 will be too squishy and squirrelly for me.
I’m enjoying the NB 5s for slower runs although because they are so light I can pick up the pace. I tend to use speed 4s for quicker tempo running. The rocker in the NB is really good and the cushioning protects my legs on long runs. Just a really good all round shoe.
I've been wearing Peagsus as casual lifestyle shoes for about 6 years now. Frankly I never would have contemplated running in them. Got a pair of NB5s to start running again... Frankly I'm considering not buying another pair of pegasus for casual wear. Might just be all in on Asics.
Did over 1000km in Pegasus 40 and now just above 50km in Novablast 5. Loved Pegasus ride. Got a better ground feel, better grip and durability is amazing. Novablast feels much plushier. Safer. Nice to be in. However didn’t experience yet any joy in getting g higher speeds. Fantastic for a recovery runs or just a long ones but in the aerobic zone. Not the threshold or any max ones. Where with Pegasus I could push myself a bit better I think. Both shoes great. Pegasus can be bought much much cheaper as loads of offers on them all the time so value on the Pegasus side for sure
Pegasus are my perfect walking shoes. Not tried the 41 yet but they've always been too firm amd dead to run in for me. Love the Novablast 5 for daily runs. Much better than the 4.
Can the Adidas Boston 12 be a more comparable daily trainer with versatility against the Asics Novablast 5? I only mentioned as the two shoes mentioned seem to be great daily trainers with the ability to mix in speed work if desired. Love to hear your thoughts on Adidas Boston 12 vs Asics Novablast 5…have a great week everyone.
These are really targeting entirely different customers and preferences. If you’re a beginner runner who wants just one shoe, Peg may be better in terms of stability and teaching mechanics. I’d you’re a more advanced runner who wants ground feel, Pegasus is the clear choice. (Or for that matter, if having a good outsole is a top priority, Peg is gonna fit you more) If you want something that feels cushioned and is more oriented toward long runs and marathon training, NB5 is clearly the better choice.
Spot on! I love the Peg for its low to the ground feel. That's why it's fast for me. The Novablast is far softer and kind of wobbly. It's more pleasing for long runs, but you can also go fast if you want to. I love both, because they are very different and each of them is a great training tool for its intended purpose.
Idk what Asics is doing with the rubber in the Novablast and Superblast but they're the loudest shoe I've ever run in. Never had that happen in any other shoe. For that reason alone I prefer the pegasus lol
I never liked the Pegasus. Even previous iterations. So I fully agree with your choice and the NB 5

Pegasus 41 - is a great lifestyle shoe, where you can do some easy runs around 30 / 40 mins...
I did a speed workout in the Peg 41 the other night and I regretted it in the morning

Compare those two with the Adidas Supernova Rise 2 !
Thanks.

B12s feel like wood planks on my feet, no way on God's green earth that i could use it as a daily. Novablast actually has foam
I have both. Boston 12 is a lot more racy and better for faster paces. NB 5 more of a soft daily trainer

This was an easy W for the NB5.
Las pegasus son una castaña
Pegs cant hold a candle to the nova
