I love how you guys make sure the snake is feeding on frozen/thawed rodents before you offer them for sale. Some less than ethical breeders will sell them before they even take their first meal.
Keep up the good work and your business will continue to grow.
Thanks, Phil Billy, my next snake, male or female, will be named Willy. Love the name, thank you.
Brooks have to be my favorite
Best informative video I’ve seen on King snakes! Very much appreciated! Thank you
This video is very helpful! im getting a baby albino California kingsnake from a friend who has a rescue and aquired some baby kingsnakes it'll be my first snake but I'm very excited & found your videos while doing my research on care thanks so much!
I feel the same way you do about not letting a snake starve. I have fed live, and switched to frozen thawed. My first King Snake, Cedric, is 6 months old now. She is a California King, Scissors Crossing. The smallest snake I have ever seen when she was old enough to take home. It took lots of time to decide to buy a King Snake. Had to make sure I could meet all the snake's needs. So happy I have her. The Florida King Snakes you have shown are beautiful. All the morphs are wonderful. The Desert Kings are stunning and you put lots of time in to produce them. Glad you work with the California King as well. I know the banded is common, but I love it. If I order another snake from you, will I receive the snake I ordered, or will I be surprised? Hey Phil Billy, can you send me some great southern cooking, along with a surprise snake???
wonderful video. i have a white sided florida king. love the little booger!
Nice video! Very informational! I learned a lot on the kings!
Great video man! We just stopped you and met you on stage at Repticon Jacksonville! Thanks for the killer show! 👊🏻
Very informative thank you.
I love these guys
Just found your channel and look forward to seeing more! I have a whitesided axanthic florida kingsnake in canada!
very nice detailed video, appreciate the helpful tips, im loving my new Brooks kingsnake
Glad to help
Another great informative video. Enjoyed it.
Thanks. Appreciate the comment!
Looking to purchase my first snake (not first reptile tho), and I’m so glad I found this channel. Very informative, and you also just seem like a really decent, stand up guy.
Btw Cali King is my #1 choice right now, but not 100% sure yet lol
I love that Lampropeltis are not too small not too big.
What a great video
Thanks so much! :)
Great video
Glad you enjoyed!
Thanks this helped alot
Learning a lot from this video.
Kinda want a King Snake for Christmas.
Hopefully I’ll get one :)
Did you get one?
Great vids. Hold different snakes while chatting. Looks great!
Thanks 👍
looking to get a mex mex soon! thank you for the indepth info on you video!
Mex-mex are the best montane snake to keep IMO. They are very hardy in captivity and do not have the same sensitivity to beginner mistakes as do most montane kingsnakes. Females are generally darker in color compared to males. Males get longer in my experience. They used to be more available, but the lack of recessive morphs kind of made many folks lose interest. Luckily they seem to be making a bit of a comeback.
Of all the montane kingsnakes, mex-mex (now classified Lampropeltis mexicana instead of Lampropeltis mexicana mexicana, but we all still call them "mex-mex") is my favorite for keeping in captivity.
I'm glad you touched on the different humidities for Kingsnakea based on region and subspecies. So many people will give rhe same exact care sheet for all Kings, and while they are very resilient snakes, a Florida King will want and handle higher humidity when conpared to, for example, a Desert King, which of course will like less humidity.
So true!
I recently gave a home to a very young king I rescued from a construction site. It’s pretty friendly and has a healthy appetite. I started it out on live pinky mice but she has no objections to thawed out frozen mice as she recognizes me as her provider
As I started out with snakes I feed live, but one feeding a mouse was kicking and had scratched my Albino California Kingsnake , she had some wounds for a few month, but she heald up , from there on I slowly made the switch to frozen, and now would feed frozen in the future
The tool in the video is called a forceps, sorry for the late comment. was re watching this and noticed that part.
also absolutely love this video
Hello! I absolutely love king snakes! I had one that came up and gave me kisses! I would like another one someday. 🙂
That's awesome!
I just got my first King snake, she is a Californian King snake her morph i think is Aberrant but is beautiful.
Same I just got mine today
I get mine in September
I just got the same. Mine's a male, I have him since last monday. He is very beatyful.
Same I just got mine a few days ago. Her name is Athena lol. She’s breath taking. Going for feeding #2 today lol
No need to apologize for feeding them live prey. Let a snake be a snake. 😁
Great informative vid. What is the coldest you would allow on your cold end? I’m doing a setup right now and I’m struggling to reach good all around temps for my tub. Any suggestions?
Note that kingsnakes spend most of the time under the ground where it is often in the high 60's deg F - of course it will vary with location, season, etc, but the point is, they take advantage of cool temps even during the active seasons. So, if the ambient room is at least in the mid 60s, the snake will generally be fine. You should focus on not overheating rather than the ambient temps.
What you do not want is an ambient room temp above 85 deg. A hot spot can be 85 - that is fine, but the rest of the cage should be cooler.
Florida kings come from a warm climate, so those can be kept a bit warmer than a Cal king. I keep my Florida/Eastern mix king in quite cool ambient temps during Winter and Spring, and it does just fine. I keep the hot spot at 85-ish. As the Summer approaches and room temps go up, I reduce the hot spot to 82.
Also, provide a humid hide at least a few days a week unless your ambient humidity is already 60% or higher. That could mean you need a humid hide only during the drier times of the year depending on where you live. I use a rack system for kings/milks. The reduced ventilation is beneficial, and a medium water bowl provides enough ambient humidity. Screen top cages in the wrong ambient conditions are not all that good for keeping kings.
Hi from Canada
Hello there!
Thank You. Just got a stunning baby Cali king. She ate in literally no time. Attempting maybe two pinkies today. Great info in your vids. Btw, @ 13:55 is that an egg tooth? 🥰😅
I’m getting a Florida brooks juvenile next week and I want to know which power uv bulb to use?I’ve ordered 50 and 60 watt is that correct in your opinion?
How big can kingsnakes grow? I've read conflicting accounts saying that kingsnakes can only reach 4ft in length, but others mention the size to be over 6ft at maximum.
Is there a repeatable place to figure out the sizes of all the different kingsnakes because I really want a king snake but I want a king snake that will get to at least 4 and a half foot
Thoughts on the Dot Dash California Kings?
How come a female king snake is not called a QUEENSNAKE?
For the exact same reason female bull snakes are not called heifer snakes.
But I'm not sure what that reason is...
Because there already are queen snakes...Google them, they're a fascinating, lesser known North American crawfish eating snake! Here's a video :

Whoa! Thanks! That was news to me. Learning everyday. :)
Great video. Your webpages have a glitch; they open up to leather products I have not been able to find a site that sells kingsnakes.
Here are all of the available kings that we have at the moment.

Looking to get a kingsnake soon and trying to figure out which to get. Is there any major differences with the different morphs/ species? The main ones I'm looking at is a cali king vs. one of the mountain kings. Thanks in advance for anyone with knowledge or expertise here!
Montane kings (mountain kings) are more delicate, and they cannot tolerate too high of ambient temperatures. Even the hot spot should be around 82 F max. They do best with smaller prey, and they need to be able to conserve moisture (not too much ventilation.) Usually not the ideal first snake but still can be great if you listen to those that have kept them successfully.
Cal kings are more forgiving, they eat really well (although they can seasonally go off food which is normal and fine), and they are not as sensitive to beginner mistakes.
Mountain kings almost always are much calmer than the typical Cal king, but some Cal kings can get pretty tame.
If getting a montane king, get one that the breeder has got successfully feeding for at least 5 meals.
👍
Would love to know where the mexican black king snake falls on this list, is it it's own subspecies or does it fall under desert king snakes or a different one? I know there's tons of king snakes other than those I was just curious since the mexican black king snakes are my favorite. Anyways, thank your for your video I learned a lot!
That is one that is up for debate. Some believe that it is its own subspecies, and some believe that it is a hypermelanistic form of the desert kingsnake. To be honest, we believe that all common kings have a common ancestry and even though they are some major differences in appearance it would almost be impossible, even with DNA to settle the argument once and for all. Unfortunately with the MBK going up in demand and price, it is not uncommon for less than ethical breeders to call ANY black kingsnake an MBK regardless of its origin.
@@ColdBloodCreations your last point about breeders unethically marketing black Desert Kings as MBKs brings up a question:
Does CBC work with MBKs? If so, I'd be interested in timeline / waitlist info.
I bought an Albino King Snake from a local pet store and he was mean as hell from day one. As a hatching to 4 feet he would bite me, later he finally stopped but I heard the Albino’s are more aggressive. Mine was a California King by the way.
When it comes to Florida kings, do you go by weight or age for breeding?
A combination of both, but mostly size. We always look for a minimum of 40 inches long, and a healthy weight for carrying eggs. The time it takes for a snake to achieve this varies depending on the individual.
Ronnie, man you are funny!!!!!
Heat pad vs heat lamp what is safer and better
HELLO, from England can I ask 1 question plz? on Thursday my daughter (11) GOT her 1st snake a California king think about 3/4 its about 4 foot. we feed it a jumbo mouse Sunday today Wednesday we got a new Viv for it as walking pass old Viv it started to strike at the glass is this normal???? many thanks
You should mention how often to feed.
What temperature should Florida kingsnakes be kept in?
Between 75 and 85 degrees F is best.
I had a Albino California Kingsnake for 16 yeas, she just passed about 2 months ago, I'm still not sure why, I found her with some black on bottom side of her body like the mouse I feed her was rotten or something I'm not sure, I do miss her very much
I love kingsnakes , really liked seeing all the different morphs was really cool, I'd really love to get another one day, great videos, been watching about Bearded dragons, as we have a rescued female from a petting zoo, someone brought her in but they did not deal with Bearded dragons, so they posed and we went and got her and that was 4 years now, I'm just at the point where I want to upgrade her tank and was looking into bioactive terrarium , what do you think about them?
I am sorry for your loss. You seem very kind though and I am sure she was very happy. also, bioactive terrariums are great for bearded dragons.
The dark spot occurs shortly after a snake dies. I think it is bile? Noticeable in albino snakes.
I just got a gorgeous king snake morph .. love him to death so far
Hello! I've heard of a "morph" called Goins x Brooks kingsnake, but could not find further information. Is there anything you have to say on this matter?
I have one. Neat snake. Mine is almost a solid yellow orange, but it will fade as it gets older. It was the product of selective breeding (by a breeder in Florida) for the least pattern and reddest color. I actually like the ones with lots of pattern - they can be the prettiest especially when the hypo gene is expressed. They are still Florida kings thru and thru - although I do think the "goini" influence can make them even more mellow.
My Florida King is about 34 “ long and 2 years old. At about what age would you think he would reach full adult size. He’s a little thicker than a hotdog
While snakes grown their entire life, though slower growth rates after sexual maturity, I would think 34" and 2 years old is an adult now.
Hey guys, i recently got a kingsnake from my local big name pet store. But they couldn't tell me what morph it was. I tried to identify it by finding similar looking ones online, but I could not. So I was wondering if you could look at a photo of it to help me identify it better.
Update: found out shes a white sided brooks kingsnake. Never seen one like her before so idk how common they are but I like it.
If I were to send you guys a picture of my snake could you identify it? It was a birthday gift a little over a year ago and they to me it was a king snake. I've never seen one this color before.
Wth??
Where do you keep him? What's your setup?
Now that was funny.
Could you breed a eastern king with a cali king?
Yes, it can be done.
What age would you recommended starting snake breeding?
And are minnows/minners good for feeding snakes like Mexican kingsnake and garter snakes? The reason I'm asking is I have easy access to minners.
The age of the snakes doesn't matter as much as the size. You want to make sure the snakes have reached a size appropriate for that particular species.
Not sure about Mexican kings, but garter snakes love minnows.
@@ColdBloodCreations I meant what age should the person doing the snake breeding age should be.
LOL! OH! Whenever one is responsible enough to care for all of the offspring, have a go at it.
I would assume that the Mexican kingsnake prefers birds, rodents, other reptiles and not fish, but I could be wrong.
My kingsnake back in the day would take minows in his water bowl every now and then for a little treat but i would make it is main source of food.
How do you know if it’s a good idea to feed live? I got a new baby king snake and I’ve fed him 3 times and try doing it once a week but he doesn’t want to eat until 9 days or so and last time he striked at me. Thanks!
He striked I think because he went so long without eating right now he’s on day 10 without eating but I haven’t tried messing with him because I don’t wanna stress him but I’m getting a little worried
Do you have a web sight? I’m interested in buying a high white king snake.
We put all animals on our UA-cam channel as they become available.
Kings will be ready in early September.
Do they not smell each other in the same room? Am I being irrational to think it would stress the snake out? or not be safe for my other snakes?
Doesn't seem to. Their sense of smell probably doesn't go much further than their tongue.
Yea kings eat kings, seen some crazy stuff on you tube seen a cal. King had half of himself half swallowed tail first. The keeper got him to release by tapping em on the nose. Crazy man

Btw very educational video for new kingsnake owners. I made the mistake of using the plastic tub and he escaped through the center. Caught him 6 months later on a sticky mouse trap lol
Good that you got him back. Thanks for the comment. We appreciate your feedback!
I lost a 5 month old Rat snake about 2 months ago and I can’t find it anywhere😓 this comment makes me think it might still be alive somewhere in my apartment but I don’t know what to do anymore 😓
@@brandongrimaldi Many years ago I had an adult Sinaloan milksnake get out. I found him almost 1 year later alive and well inside the house. Did not even look thin. I had a baby sandboa squeeze out from a tub in a rack for 6 months before finding it alive and well in a linen closet under some towels. Note: baby sandboas can slip through some pretty small gaps I learned.
For your situation, either it is in the house or found its way outside. Keep an eye out! These things can surprisingly survive a very long time inside a house.
@@brandongrimaldi a good friend of mine lost a pretty large python in his house for over a year. Then on new years Eve of 1999, we were all playin some video games in his living room, when the snake came slithering out from behind the TV. Your snake is probably chillin in a nice warm spot, happy in his new enclosure that you call your apartment.
I'm interested in a white side king snake how can i get some info on this please
We have some available now.

I'm thinking about owning a kingsnake as first snake. I heard a lot of the califonia, but how do I know which kingsnake I should take?? Are there any specific differents between the types of kingsnakes?? Do you or someone else have made a video about this? Or is it just like the different colours etc??
It's mostly personal preference, but I would do your own research on the subspecies that your interested in.
Is a brookes kingsnake a god begynde snake
Where do you recommend buying a king snake? Online ? Breeder?
I know this really cool kingsnake breeder. They're called Cold Blood Creations. I'd try them first. LOL!
I hear that californian kingsnake can grow up to 180cm aka 1.8 meters
How much do you sell them for
Cali kings are my favourites.🐍 And it's normal you want a healthy baby. So if it needs live prey, so it is then.👍 Mine eats f/t with no problems.
13:54 my king looks like that but blood red and super black and high yellows
Goins x Brooks maybe?
How much do you think a 4 year old,Female, Reverse striped California King snake would be worth? I feel like I got ripped off and its bugging me lol.
It's hard to assess an animal's value... value is determined by what you are willing to pay.
