In every interview I see he's doing it as if it were his first interview. His every single facial expression and gesture fully expresses his emotion time to time. He's totally absorbed in the interview. It's touching that he is so sincere. Amazing guy, Alan.

This man is so imporant to music history. I admire him so much. He is a musical cameleon he can do all styles and he really understands how to alter different stories to his music. every score and soundtrack he has been a part of has been great and It has been amazing to follow his career and see him evolve as a composer with each he has done. Yes I was a kid during most of them, not born on others but now that I am an adult myself I can truly say that this man is to blame ( ahahah) for an amazing childhood with breathtakingly songs I'll never forget. I am a singer and thanks to Alan menken I can say that he was a part of making music my passion. If I could ever touch a human soul they way he has I will be the happiest gal alive. Hunchback is in my opinion the best one. :D

it pains me to hear that people don't know who alan menken is or who howard ashman is. THEY ONLY WROTE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE DISNEY SONGS!!! I love them both, they're incredible. Howard Ashman, may he rest in peace, was one of the greatest lyricists disney has ever seen!

Alan Menken is such an awesome film composer. HECK he made me bawl when he composed the tear heals from Tangled and made me sing along to all those catchy songs from Enchanted,Tangled[like I mentioned before],The Little Mermaid.
Music ain't the same if Alan Menken wasn't composing them,he can kick Randy Newman's butt by FAR.

Alan Menken is one of my top favorite film composers and I had no idea that he had ADD. It has made me realize that you can have a disability and be a genius at something :)

If I ever become a film director and screenwriter, Alan Menken would be one of my first choices to write and compose a score for my movie. In fact, I once had an idea for a live-action fantasy-adventure thriller that took place in 1880's London, England that I could see Menken conducting a score for.

If I ever get to work with him, I'd ask him to write music for a feature-length nature film, or even a live-action fictional animal story.

I could see that panning out well! As far as my story, I would take elements from classic movies/stories like Peter Pan/Hook, Aladdin, The Thief Lord (Movie was decent but book was WAY better), Wizard of Oz, The Chronicles of Narnia, and to a certain extent The Golden Compass and form them into one story and turn it into a landmark Holiday blockbuster (Since I would release it around November or December). It would be an epic, intense, and at times spooky/dark but still family-friendly action-fantasy thriller with a beautiful love story in the center of it and provides a powerful human message by the end of it (Something that both parents and children can learn from). The visual effects, action sequences, production design/art direction, and cinematography would be on the same level as Avatar (2009 film) and Lord of the Rings/Hobbit trilogy with a musical score as riveting as the score from Beauty and the Beast and/or The Little Mermaid. I would also have him team up with a singer-songwriter like Emeli Sande, Leona Lewis, Florence Welch, Taylor Swift, Madonna, or Lana Del Rey to write a song that captures the friendship and/or romantic element of the film. Menken could write the music and for example, Emeli Sande could write the lyrics and provide the vocals for the song. A song that is a powerful and soul-stirring song like Beauty & the Beast, A Whole New World, Part of That World, I Will Always Love You (from The Bodyguard), Will You Be There (from Free Willy), or I'll Remember (from With Honors). Heck! if the song is that good, it could not only turn out to be a smash hit single but earn Menken another two Oscar nominations and wins for both song and score!

Also, just to hear your opinion, I want to know if you think this would be a good idea for a movie that Menken could write a score for. A wealthy but elderly widow (around 120 years old) who is a Great-Great Grandmother, living in Modern-day London, tucks her Great-Great Grandchildren, visiting her from America for the Christmas Holiday, into bed on Christmas Eve and sits down and tells them the story of her magical and perilous adventures in a wintery, dreamlike fantasy world over a hundred years earlier. The film then travels back from Present-Day to late 19th century London, England when she is only 13 or 14 years old who lives with her wealthy but strict aunt and uncle along with her 6 year old little brother after both of their parents die (mother dying giving birth to her brother and father, a captain in the Royal Navy, dying in battle overseas). After a terrible and bitter argument with her aunt during a Christmas Eve party, the girl is sent to her room and told to stay in her room for the rest of the evening and throughout the following day, which is Christmas, and denied her presents. Later that same evening, while the city sleeps, a mischievous yet sly teenage elf-like thief from another world, who is known as "The Christmas Thief" due to his reputation for sneaking into people's homes on Christmas Eve and stealing their presents and other precious valuables but many believe him to be nothing more than a urban myth, breaks into her aunt and uncle home and steal their presents along with her mother's locket. The girl and her brother catch him in the act and chase him through the town all the way into a mystical dimension. Unable to get back home, the girl and her brother find themselves having to trust the elf thief to help and lead them on a magical but life-threatening journey to find a magical artifact or ornament that a powerful wizard created that a dark and unspeakably evil warlock wants so he can gain immortality and cease having to kidnap young children from the human world and consume their souls to maintain his longevity. As the film goes on, the girl eventually falls in love with the elf thief and by the end, the three find the artifact, defeat the evil warlock and his dark forces, free the enslaved human children and the girl and her brother return to London, with her being more appreciative and caring of her brother than she was before, and burying the hatchet between her and her aunt, then the film returns back to the Present Day with the girl as a very old woman. I know it's a lot to read, but do you like the story? Do you think it could be a commercial and critical success? Do you think it would be better as a live-action or animated feature? Do you think it has Oscar potential? Please be honest, Open 4 Feedback!

I recently got an idea: a hand-drawn animated feature about Echo, the famed elephant matriarch who was the subject of the BBC special ''Echo of the Elephants''. I would ask Alan Menken to write the score, and team him with Bryan Adams (who wrote ''Spirit'') and Lebo M (who wrote for ''Lion King'' and ''Power of One'' with Hans Zimmer) to write the songs. The animals would express themselves in pantomime, like in ''Spirit'', and the art would be inspired by ''Spirit'', ''Lion King'', ''Rescuers Down Under'', and ''Brother Bear''.

More power to you! I hope it works out for you. Sounds like a interesting idea for a animated feature! If it's good enough, it could probably turn out to be a big hit like Frozen (although I feel it's highly overrated) and probably start another Disney Renaissance, where every Disney animated feature is a huge box office hit and a instant classic! As far as my movie goes, it would be a live-action Non-musical feature, however, I would hire Menken to write and compose the score for the movie and I would also hire a singer-songwriter like Emeli Sande, Adele, Lana Del Rey, or Florence Welch to team up with Menken to write a song for the movie, with Menken writing the music and either Sande, Adele, Del Rey, or Welch writing the lyrics and providing the vocals! I would want it to be a song that captures the friendship and/or romantic element of the movie and is as riveting, soul-stirring, and heart-touching as songs like "Beauty and the Beast (Celine Dion/Peabo Bryson version)", "A Whole New World", "Part of That World", or like other classic movie songs like "Will You Be There" from Free Willy, "My Heart Will Go On" from Titanic, "I Will Always Love You" from The Bodyguard, "Remember Me This Way" from Casper, or "I'll Remember" from With Honors. If the song is really good, the studio could release the song as a single and could not only be a worldwide smash hit, along with the movie itself (making between $500 million-$1 billion), and boost the film's soundtrack to multi-platinum or diamond status but even earn both Menken and Sande or any other artist both a Golden Globe and Academy Award win for Best Original Song with Menken also winning for Best Original Score! I could see the movie itself being nominated at least, if not win, for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor (To whoever plays the male protagonist), Best Actress (To Whoever plays the female protagonist), Best Supporting Actor (To whoever plays the main antagonist), Best Visual effects, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, etc! I have a lot of faith in it!
