It’s still crazy to me how my parents didn’t tell me when y’all came to our store for this LMFAO💀 I was probably 16-17 at the time and I come back to this video every time I miss the food cause unfortunately we did have to close down LOL but still just as appreciative of y’all coming to the store and trying out all the foods to spread the love for shanghainese food/culture♥️

@@amirulaffandi9854 The guy obviously has a great deal of pride in his Shanghainese background (which he should) & understands all the cultural differences within China (which is great). His comment essentially insinuated that "everyone in the west should understand my background as well as I do." What gives? Does he understand all the subtle cultural tendencies amongst individuals that migrated to the west? Of course not & there's nothing wrong with that. Just comes off as self-absorbed.

My grandparents on my mum's side came from Shanghai to Hong Kong, and I learnt Shanghainese from my mum, and Cantonese from my dad. This is now making me hungry for a ton of Shanghainese comfort food. Although, mate, some of the translations are wrong, but some of the stereotypes are correct, I'll agree with that.

fun fact- in the old days local pride pettiness was so high between shanghai and neighboring city hangzhou that the locals would deliberately give false directions to visitors from the other city (distinguishable by accent) who tried to make their way around town.
