Basic tools in this videos doesn't mean stuff that everyone would have at home. They are very basic jeweler tools that can be had for not very much money to be honest. The point of the videos is to show how can make this ring using the cheaper tools to do the same thing as the professional tools but at the same time showing why professional tools can be very handy for time saving or making things easier.
I see the "not basic tools" comment a lot so I'm just going to chime in and say I am in the process of making this ring for a family member and I love it. These are pretty basic jewelry tools and, with a bit of ingenuity, I can (probably) make this! Definitely gonna take some practice though...
@@GomeowCreations The primary things I am missing from the video are a metal block for hammering, a bench pin, a good cleaner, and, well, skill lol. From what I have done so far, my skill is holding me back far more than the tools. I'll get there though. Not super related, but I actually have learned everything I have done so far from your previous videos! I have made a number of copper and brass rings so far, but I just bought some silver wire to move up a level. Wish me luck!
@@GomeowCreations Coming back to this video again, I realized I never relied! It went very well. I made my ring out of silver wire, and I did make a few style changes from this video. I made it as a Christmas gift for my mother and I loved it and so did she!
i used to make celtic rings from silver wire when i was younger. my grandparents used to own a craft shop that sold everything. sadly when they passed away most of the stuff in the shop was thrown into a skip as my aunty had no idea of what was in the shop. they chucked loads of silver wire and tools into the trash. i was so gutted. lost so many tools from the shop. i must get back into making stuff again. these days i tend to use computers and resin printers and then have them cast. miss the old ways. well not that old but old if ya know what i mean. thanks for a great video.

Totally fantastic video, I did a twisted wire and rolled it through the rolling mill and yes it separated so I will try it this way the next time . Thank you for the video it was great as always
What are basic tools to you? I thought a steel ring mandrel, mallet, saw and a torch was as basic as you can get for jewelry making. I also show how to use professional tools to do that same thing but the idea was to show you can do it with basic jeweler tools.

I looked at the basic tools list. To own all those tools here in Australia costs way more than in the USA does. We pay a premium on everything often nearly double the price depending on exchange rates. Also the cost of materials is also higher because of the de thing. I wouldn't personally call that list of tools basic tools list. There's really nothing basic about it. I'm going to give this ring a go in the future when I find the rest of my basic jewellery tools. I don't jave a bench nor the GRS setup, which is great by the way to have. I enjoy your videos a lot. Especially the more simple ones that beginners can try. Use copper instead of silver to practice. At least that is cheaper and can stuff it up without any pain. Thanks for sharing your skills and ideas.
To make any piece of jewelry these are extremely basic tools. This is not a DIY pipe cleaner ring, this is something you actually need to put a decent amount of investment into

I need a rolling mill, ring stretcher and the GRS tools and selective hammers and I think I'm just about there. The cost of silver is not cheap either as you say exchange rate stuffs us by nearly double the price here. Ive tried to buy local but did buy a lot of things when our dollar was worth a lot more than it currently is. I too enjoy his videos and trying in copper is a very good idea. I wish he listed the lengths of the wire needed as well, clicking on the link lists 5 feet. How many rings can be made from that length? There are other length options. I haven't watched the video as yet writing this, will do though. I'm currently trying to make my first 2 rings, should have annealed them before starting I learnt. I too don't have a jewellers desk, making do with an ordinary desk and a travelling jewellers desk from AJS.com.au if your interested. Brings the level up higher at least. Only doesn't have the cutaway and silver catching tray so you need to improvise to collect offcuts and filings to either return for credit or melt into ingots yourself which I may do.
Hi Randy, this video was so helpful. I've been trying to figure out how to do this inside an inlay ring. I think I'll have to go to a two piece inlay ring, which I don't want to do. Originally wanted to make my own wood inlay ring and add the chain, but you can't solder on wood LOL!!!! Thanks for the tutorial!
These are really cool rings, I am wondering if there's essentially simpler versions that can be made for those with *truly basic* tools. I have wire, pliers, hammers, and some other stuff but I'm brand new to wire and the materials you needed are far outside my perview and ability to get them. They do look great though.

Hi Randy, this video was so helpful. I've been trying to figure out how to do this inside an inlay ring. I think I'll have to go to a two piece inlay ring, which I don't want to do. Originally wanted to make my own wood inlay ring and add the chain, but you can't solder on wood LOL!!!! Thanks for the tutorial!
You can solder wood it just has a different name, glue haha

Unfortunately, this can be avoided by coating the ring with silver, gold or clear lacquer. I will be glad if you rate my videos.

These are really cool rings, I am wondering if there's essentially simpler versions that can be made for those with *truly basic* tools. I have wire, pliers, hammers, and some other stuff but I'm brand new to wire and the materials you needed are far outside my perview and ability to get them. They do look great though.
