    Love this pattern! Such a perfect, cool look for silver. I really love silver, not just because it's less expensive than gold, but because it lacks the warmth of gold, yet has a modern/classically cool look.

      @@E66878 It can be done without thousands of dollars in tools. You'll still be putting a few hundred in, but it can be done. You can source the wire from a jewelry supply store rather than make it yourself. You'll also notice he used a hobby torch to solder the rings. A slightly bigger map gas or propane torch from the hardware store will run you about 40 dollars and will work just fine for this and annealing the silver as it work hardens.
      As for cleaning, a thrift store slow cooker or electric hot plate and a ceramic dish can be used for pickling. For drawing the rings and reducing size/compacting the chain, you can buy a couple off-cuts of a good hardwood at your local lowes/home depot/whichever is the local store in question, glue them together and drill a series of graduated holes in the resulting block to form a draw plate, then use a pair of pliers to pull it through.
      While expensive tools sometimes make things easier, simple and cheap do the job just as well at a fraction of the cost.
      Where I got this information: nineteen years of working with wire making chainmail as a hobby, twelve of metal smithing and jewelry making as a hobby, and six of leatherworking. When possible, I make the tools I need to do the job, and when I can't I go with what works, not what is shiny and expensive as a rule. Most expensive tool I've bought for my hobbies is a toss-up between a relatively cheap home depot drill press and a flexshaft.
      I hope this helps you out if you have an interest in this as a hobby 😁

    I used to make jewelry. Until my hands got too bad. It is a lot of work. The design phase alone is time consuming. People don't understand all the work, planning and modifying to get all the tiny pieces to fit and be symmetrical or the proper gage. That's when it turns into a piece of art. They don't want to pay for all the work. I don't fault them they don't understand what it entails.

    I happened to stumble upon this when searching for the show "how things are made".
    I admire artists' work such as yours (makes me appreciate the hard work all that much more). Loved seeing it from raw form to almost finished (no clasp, didn't realize you sold them too, nice!)
    Too many specialized tools for me to consider trying. I'll stick with crafting with paper, yarn, and wood for now....someday metal :)
    Few key things I was reminded/learned more about are flux, annealing, blackened, pickling (googled what's in it) and there is a difference in "fine" and "sterling" silver.
    Most excited is you have them for sale! Great gift, and including a link to this video is an added value.

      If it did, then you wouldn't have hairs to rip out from your wrist, making it a self-correcting problem. I don't think it would really catch them frequently though, unless you have gorilla-levels of hair on your arms.

    • @Ken_Dalton

      I really doubt it, this man is an expert skill level for making chains, Iv followed him for years so I'm sure he is aware or such issues and as jewelers we try not to let ring claws catch on clothes by having no gaps between the claws and a set stone, it's the same with this the wire looks very nice and tight that won't allow your hair to get caught😉... Not unless u are like king Kong hairy then u may have problems ! Haha just joking. I highly recommend this man's chains, he is next level and and very inspiring, I'm glad this is a lesson bccoz it's certainly one I'd like to try myself✌🏼

      @@adamsmith8570 it's adjustable Square draw plate but it's probably bought from a non English store /website so I cannot seem to find it online.
      Last year I found a smaller version of this online, will have to get that if I really can't find the large one.
      I wish he would reply :p

    I do really love this video, though on the website, it looks like the final products that are shipped out are perfectly refined and flawless. In the video, it has a much more personal touch, hand made and rugged look. I personally would love to buy something like in the video since it looks much more genuine than the perfect flawless ones. Is there any option for that?

    No estoy seguro, pero quizá lijarlo después de retorcerlo, y no antes, podría mejorar el acabado final, no se si lo has probado, aun así esmuy bonito y original, me ha gustado mucho, gracias.

    This is why you don't try to barter at the markets, that's a ton of work

    • @NotTrustedSource
      @NotTrustedSource 4 роки тому +1

      bartering at a market can help you get a better price. This you wouldn’t find at a market, more like a jewelry store

    • @lalune59
      @lalune59 Рік тому

      Bartering to me gives me the sense of the buyer
      Whether serious at getting a good price or someone wanting it cheap and knows nothing about jewellery
      You can tell but only if they barter
      Same as you can tell when people buy without bartering
      Some care others another it’s someone’s presents out the way
