Ireland is one of the most expensive places in the world. Those german supermarkets aldi and lidl are cheap and unhealthy. You can get a few things like org blueberries and a couple of bits but largely its full of really unhealthy addictive foods designed to ruin your health.
Thank you so much for this video ..... I live on Vancouver Island BC Canada. I am in awe not only of the options of your lovely groceries but....THE PRICES!!!! You pay 50% less than we do for Canadian Maple syrup and we live here!! I am so happy to see your country having reasonable food for their people. It is how it should be everywhere for everyone. Blessengs xx
Really enjoyed seeing what Ireland has to offer! Wonderful variety and reasonable prices. I'm so inspired. Bring back the small local grocer, bakery, hardware and markets! I'm in USA and would love this..Beautiful video, 🌱🍋🍐🍎 Thanks Colette!
It is so lovely when the sun returns. I live in Norway on 60degrees North. We have had horrible cold weather lately, but the sun reaches the top of the trees behind my house, in a couple of weeks I will get sun throught my windows again! 🙂 Very good prices for food. Looks like we like the same foods in Norway as in Ireland, Potatoes and bread! 😅
I visit my local farmers market weekly. I try to get as much as I can there. Unfortunately, not as many greens and salad veggies, but I can get eggs, microgreens and some breads along with teas and meats (I do eat some meats). I then have to go to the health food store and supermarket for other stuff. I must say all the produce in your market looks fantastic!
Lovely markets. Here in Ohio, my Aldi's is nothing like yours. We do not have alot of vegan products. I saw a couple of items we both have, coffee , ours is $8.99 and maple syrup is $6.99. Your bread and cake section made me sigh. It is beautiful. Joy and blessings to all ❤
I’m so amazed at the prices there compared to here in Australia, but also the range. Our Aldi has virtually none of the items you showed, especially the plant based options.
A fascinating trip to the shops with you Colette: thank you. And you showed a lot of discipline not to buy all the naughty but nice treats. It all looked so tempting and your wonderful commentary made everything seem even more delicious. Prices seemed cheaper than here in England. I can't wait for the next shopping trip with you ❤
Wow, the honey price is fantastic- el cheapo honey in NZ is $6.29/500g. I recently did a shopping video too, always a challenge to keep the grocery budget under control in NZ! Wow, I didn't know that there was no military in Ireland, good on you guys!
I live on a few acres in Australia and am fortunate to be able to grow most of my own vegetables and citrus. I try and avoid all supermarkets if I can, preferring to shop at farmers markets but agree that Aldi has a competitive advantage when it comes to efficiency and savings. I am a vegan too but just be aware that many plant-based alternatives are considered ultra-processed food because they've undergone industrial processes to make them taste like meat and dairy. Consume at your discretion!
I love this, seeing the regional difference 😊 wish my aldi (Illinois USA) sold spicy cous cous & beet root and carrot salad 😬 so glad you’ve got reasonable prices there! (except on that kefir-ouch!) I’d love to try those ginger nut biscuits 😅 yay for neutrality 🤍 my genealogy is mostly Irish so of course it a bucket list visit for me
Thank you Colette for taking us along. Prices are really reasonable. Here in the USA we would spend more money on the things you showed us. Hugs and love ❤
I couldn’t help but smile - my first job in Halifax, Nova Scotia I had a pair of squeaky boots. One of my co-workers kept saying, “I wish you’d pay for those boots”……..🙃
Thank you for the shopping trip Colette. It was delightful and fun to comparison shop a little bit. The groceries in the US are thru the roof. Also, quite interesting that Ireland is neutral and keeps their tax dollars at home to help those "at home" and doesn't fund other's wars. Wish the US did the same. Have a wonderful evening!!
I loved watching you shop. Our prices in New Jersey are triple the price. I love seeing patsy❤ she is so cute. I'm a recent widow, and everytime I see patsy I want to rescue a dog, and have a little companion.
What a magnificent supermarket. The fresh vegetables, fruit, herbs, jams etc look delicious and there is a lot of variety. The breads and cakes look scrumptious and how wonderful local bakers supply the supermarkets with their home baked goods. I love the patriotism too. The prices are very reasonable compared to Australia. Great interesting video, thank you!
In the US, not only are the costs much higher, but less selection and so much bioengineered food. I have an Aldi, they have a slightly better selection of healthy food. However, the last 2 years the prices have gotten ridiculous. I really enjoyed this glimpse into your grocery world. Thank you for taking us along.
Wow!!! I live in the midwest U.S. and most of those items are TWICE that price!! And what a choice!! of plant-based, vegan, organic food! You live in a Paradise, Colette!! 💞💞
It was my first time here. Loved our tour of your grocery shops. Prices are much better in Ireland. Fun to see all the different items! Also, appreciate your going slow and showing us prices. I live in Connecticut, and our Aldi's have raised their prices, and 80% of their product are now bioengineered. No longer my favorite grocery store. Very sad about it. Nice meeting you.❤ God bless you!
Oh, what an amazing array of colours in your local shop ! I am now craving vegetables.. 😂 i was watching the afternoon sun kissing the hills in the distance earlier. It was very uplifting. Particularly because it's been very wet and dreary here for far too many weeks ! Blessings and a belated happy new year!❤.
This is wonderful Collette. I haven’t been to Ireland for about 30 years when I used to stay at relatives houses for the summer with my mum. We would go food shopping every week and I loved the Irish stores. I love how most things are Irish keeping the money in Ireland for the Irish people ☘️
Great, fun shopping trip. As a vegan, I’m always jealous of the wider array of vegan items at overseas ALDIs in comparison to the ones here in the US. Your house and gardens, as always, are so beautiful.
… and suddenly I’m very hungry 😂 Loved this video Colette, a great insight into the Irish food shop experience. I’m most impressed at the amount of Irish products available, I love the pride the Irish have in their country, it’s great to see. Sadly the UK is increasingly signed up to globalism. National pride and patriotism seem to be slipping away and annoyingly, these days, mistakenly get lumped in with something else deeply unpleasant and beginning with R 😣 I hope you and Patsy are well and fully prepared for the upcoming week of icy cold weather. Brrrrr ❄️🥶 Stay snuggly, stay safe ❤ xx
Here in Kentucky in the United States , we don't have a large range of foods too choose from. What we do have is so terrible expensive, I am 76 and have never seen anything like it . 😢😢
The prices definitely look better than in the US. We do have Aldi's in our area, but I prefer my local Meijer. The produce is much better and sourced locally in season. Out of season, it's from California, Mexico, or other warmer areas. Meijer also puts a lot back into our area.
When I visited Canada in 2013, I went into a few shops and couldn't believe the prices and the larger selection that we just don't have here in the US. I am thinking of going vegan, so your shopping trip was informational as well as lots of fun. Could we ever have imagined that, one day, technology would allow us all to "visit" you in your lovely country and home, even going so far as to tag along on a shopping trip? What fun!
I cannot believe the cost and the quality/freshness of the produce! WOW! 'Sale' prices in Canada are more than double or triple even after currency conversion. Canadian maple syrup is cheaper in Ireland than it is in Canada! LOL! Thanks for the tour of grocery shops!
I loved this video, Colette. It shows what lovely produce you get and also how reasonable the grocery store was. Things are so much more expensive where I am in Canada. ❤
I am so envious of all those fabulous vegan products and the innovations you have. Its very hard here in Japan. Its interesting that so many seeds that are packed with protein and minerals were looked upon as weeds. Cattle feed. Millet is a favourite. Flax too. I hope nutrition is taught in schools.
Thank you for taking us shopping. 🛒. I like the little adventures outside the cabin, seeing your local towns. You keep things real it’s refreshing to watch. Hugs to Patsy 🐶
Looks like a great variety of vegan foods! I have to say I enjoyed watching this. I sort of laughed aloud at your good prices! And the shops look clean and friendly. ❤️ Where I live in the US it’s about 3-5 times as much per comparable item, (unless it’s on a very good sale) so I make a lot from scratch to keep costs down. Looking forward to expanding my veggie garden this Spring as well.
I enjoyed this immensely Colette! I shop Aldi in the U.S. for price and quality, but our prices are 30% to 50% higher. Example, Canadian maple syrup is $6.99 U.S. dollars for the same bottle you showed and we are closer to ship it to! Our brioche is $6.00 as well. Peace and Blessings to you 🌻🌲🏡
Wow I am so ashamed to be a U.S citizen. From the circus that is our government, to ridiculous health care cost to high car ins. to UNBELIEVABLE food prices. Families can't survive here unless they are rich, barely making it or on food stamps! This country needs help!
@@lm9753LyndaAnn Good Morning here on the snowy East coast -NWCT Sorry just couldnt cap my frustration. I hide away in nature - as long as it exists. There is peace and beauty and food in the world we create. xxoo :)
That is so funny, that was ACTUALLY my dinner tonight! Seriously! No kidding! I also find it a bit strange that a giant head of cabbage and oversized lemons would frustrate me so! LOL!@@marybethrosebrook282
Morning, Colette. It's great to be able to support Local shops and local growers. Here in Norfolk, UK I'm lucky to have a greengrocer selling high quality, local produce at a very reasonable price as well as several delis and farm shops with a wonderful range of cheeses, veg, jams, oils etc. Thanks for the insight into shopping in your area. x
So glad you monetized and got Wi-Fi. Now we get to see a lot more of Ireland. Was surprised to hear you got an aldis. And I don’t know if it’s the camera or the internet but your videos seem brighter.
I'm watching this video as I'm eating my porridge for breakfast and you've just shown the organic Irish Oats. Serendipity 😁 Many blessings to you and Patsy. Xxx
My family was from. County Mayo. Here in America in solidarity I buy Irish cheese and butter. It’s of the highest quality and it’s far healthier than many other brands.
You are so lucky that aldi stock food from you own country Colette .l could go crazy with the fresh produce wish l was there. Love to you 🥑🍒🍐🍏Kerry Australia
Thank you, Colette, for taking us on your grocery-shopping trip. It's interesting to see how food is so much less expensive there than in the States. Plus, the produce looks so fresh and appetizing and the baked goods look delicious. It's also nice to hear that your government focuses on the care and comfort of it's people. Thank you again....wishing you a very HAPPY NEW YEAR, Dear One. 🥰
Very interesting. I have an Aldi's here in Massachusetts but I've never gone in. I always thought it was like a warehouse where everything was oversized products or you had to buy in bulk. I'll definitely have to make a trip there now! Please do show how you make coleslaw using a potato peeler. I've been making it for years with a hand grinder and the grinder finally broke. It was abought 50 yrs old!! It was a killer to use, though, so I'm interested to see a different way to cut that old cabbage. 😂
What lovely stores you have. You have such a choice of vegan product too-not like here in Canada 😒. I love to cook from scratch too but it's nice to add in a little ready made now and again.
I love ....I love it...I did ship in Aldi often..I miss it so much ..no shop like this here in Sa !! Sad ...the veggies shop is amazing ..and cheap too ..I am jealous..I know those oats and they are amazing!!! ..we got nearly rien over here..😢
I shop at Aldi here in the US. They have a nice variety of food. One thing I have noticed…some of the boxed rice dinners are GMO. It states this right on the box..I just didn’t see that info before. I have heard in Europe those type of foods are banned but not so in the US so buyer beware. Your Aldi store looks so much bigger than the ones here. Thank you for sharing Colette
Thankyou, that was so interesting. That Fresh Today store was amazing. Everything looked so fresh and tasty, and so many real Irish products in Aldi. Most stuff on sale in my area of uk is sad, virtually out of date and totally non- organic. That’s when there is actually stock that hasn’t been replaced by cardboard shelf fillers showing things like happy chickens because they have run out of eggs or just a couple of products filling a whole section because there so much lack of choice, or simply empty shelves like this week when the only cows milk available was the filtered, lasts for weeks stuff.
Beautiful cabbage at your local store looks green and lush . I do love me some cabbage. Enjoyed the shopping trip. Love to get me some of that butter. We can get Kerry Gold here in Ohio. Please show your lovely shopping bag with the beautiful green bow.
Wow! That food looked amazing. We have Aldi’s here in the states but it doesn’t offer the freshness yours does. Can’t imagine being able to buy locally baked goods at the store. I love breads & cakes….I would have a problem walking away from that section, especially if it was locally made.
There are quite a few food banks in Dublin. Unfortunately. I'd eat those croissants lathered in butter, if I bought them, which I wouldn't, for that reason 😂
Thank you for that brill video! Just to say, re flaxseeds, I buy a bag of whole and use a cheap coffee grinder to grind up and either use straight away or store in the fridge for a few days. They pre-ground version in packets is less fresh and can go off a wee bit (oils go rancid).
Thank you for walking us around as you shopped. I have not been into a shop for at least 4 years now, so it was very interesting. I buy everything online, and get my shopping delivered, as I do not have a car now, and live out in the sticks, only going out to walk Madge, as you know. The colours of everything hit me, a real feast for the eyes. xxx
There’s nothing in a US grocery store for 79 cents. Not even a pack of gum, that goes for 3 dollars. And don’t even get me started on the lack of quality on the produce this time of year. Red grapes sell in a bag @ $9.99 for 2 pounds.
Love this video Colette 💖 I buy the oat milk for myself and my daughter as we are both vegan now since 2016. Beautiful produce in Ireland Colette ! Thanks for sharing .🍀💗💐🌷🍀
What a beautiful Day you had Colette.👍🏻🙂..... And I agree that there is "Change in the Air" Even the Birds Shirping sounds different now... So the seasonal change is definitely turned on ... And I am So looking forward to the Spring arriving!💖🤗
Wow Colette, I wish our Aldi was as cheap as your Aldi. I use Vergel Aldi in the province of Alicante Spain and the prices have shot up and is now on par with other super markets. The have a much smaller plant based selection than yours. Thank you for taking us shopping, please do some recipes one day with what you buy. Your garden looks beautiful and that is where I'm heading now, out to my garden. Sending you love and blessings from here.❤
Lovely food shops! The prices are amazing! I'd have a heyday with the bread and cakes! 😋 The produce is so much better than in the states.Prices as well! Thanks for taking us along! 😊
I’m loving the light . Took dog for a walk and deliberately walked in all the light patches . It didn’t last long but a lovely sign . (Yorkshire) Loving your shopping post !
I'm about to turn 70...now I wanna move to Ireland! But gosh darn Id miss my 5 kids and my lived 9 grandchildren...but Our prices for groceries here in the US are ridiculous and healthcare and taxes are ridiculous. I know everybody says there's pluses and negatives to all of the places and countries where we live but I'm telling you when you're fighting to fix income and grow and grow groceries Our prices for groceries are ridiculous taxes are ridiculous I know everybody says there's pros and cons in the countries where we all live but I'm telling you when you're struggling on a fixed income and groceries are skyrocketing along with everything else here it makes me sad to see how older people struggle and families too. It sure sounds like Ireland's got a great plan for its citizens with budget friendly groceries and not supporting the military expenses or industrial complex... way to go Ireland!!
Colette, your prices are way, way better than food prices in northern Ontario. What a great store. It looks homey -- and that fruit bread looks awesome.
What a beautiful market
Packaging smaller and prices high in USA!!
I am amazed at how inexpensive the food is there compared to the U.S. It's stunning!
Same for us here in Australia, our prices have gone through the roof
Yes prices for groceries in the US continue to go up. When is it going to stop?

Hello, I'm also from Ohio and also buy Kerry Gold.
Guinness cake!! ❤❤❤❤Gotta love Ireland! Wonderful video! I wanted to buy everything! Thanks 😘🇮🇪
Loved your shopping vlog . It was brilliant to see all the vegan and plant based food in Aldi x
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for that brill video! Just to say, re flaxseeds, I buy a bag of whole and use a cheap coffee grinder to grind up and either use straight away or store in the fridge for a few days. They pre-ground version in packets is less fresh and can go off a wee bit (oils go rancid).
Lovely to see so much beautiful fresh food! I admit, I do love my Irish butter here in coastal Virginia too!😊
satsumas are my favorite citrus 👍
❤
Thanks Collette ❤
Sending you love and blessings from here.❤
Wow the quality and prices!!! Your so fortunate here in the us in Pittsburgh specifically there is nothing in comparison!!!!
I do admire your home and garden such a talent ❤😊
Oh my goodness wonderful shopping you should wite a plant based cook book as I do struggle please xxx
Btw a brioche loaf goes for $10.99 here. You are quite lucky there.
(Yorkshire)
Loving your shopping post !
Wonderful!
Thanks for the tour. I love food shopping. Great prices and selection.
Very much enjoyed our food shopping today.
Good to hear
Beautiful produce! Thanks for the shopping trip
It really is!
I loved going grocery shopping with you, Colette!
I'm so glad!
