My Vader lightsaber is experiencing the same thing. Mine just turned on on its own but then after that, it was never able to turn back on again. I’m really bummed as I was going to use it for a photo shoot and this happens.
Mine is not turning on either but I am using the right (big slider) button. So I undid a lot of screws and took the blade out of the handle and found that the little wires that go to the big rear slider switch were probably not connected. Taking the blade out rips the wires out so I may have broken it as I dismantled it but I think not because I can now turn it on by connecting the two wires together. It lights up and makes noises. A couple of the red LEDs are defective. I am not sure how to resolder the wires to the switch. I managed to get the switch apart too. I am now lengthening the thin yellow wires that go the slider switch with some yellow wire from out of the PC that just broke. There was even some heat shrink sleeving. I managed to fix it but, it is a bit flaky. If I shake it too much it turns itself off.
Just bought a Skywalker legacy saber and right out of the box it doesn’t work. Changed batteries and nothing. $150 now I have to wait until we go back to Disney 😎
Yep, a case of RTFM. Just about all force fx sabers activate via the activation box. Either clamp card or a side button usually activates them. Usually the red button on the back is either an access to removing the inards, or removing the blade for removable blade sabers.

Have to turn it on by the slide up button. It's the long silver part of the saber

You slide the silver thing on the side and it turns on

The middle part with like 5 or six buttons one of them turn it on

the long middle button is how you turn it on. Did you even read the instructions? lmao
