Very useful and detailed instructions to install a stylish and easy to install laminated counter top. At 2:44 you have showed an accurate method to fix the sink. Your home improvement videos are very helpful to DIYers like me.
I didn't find it very detailed. It quickly zipped through things, leaving me with no idea about brackets or mounting needs of the sink or cabinet. And the example of sanding off any discrepancies under the masked edge for meeting the mitred corners was so quick and vague that I was not able to see how they were explaining to accomplish it. This was more of a quick review for those in the business, rather than teaching the DIIYer what to do.
@@raylenejorgenson237 yeah they strangely seem like a bot 😂
June2024 Grandson and I are doing this Wednesday. Looks like we will be fine with this helpful video. Thanks for sharing:)
Enjoy a delightful time with your grandson, Charlotte! And remember, teamwork makes the dream work.😁💙
How was the install?
Just installed 2 laminate counter tops in kitchens today. It's definitely not as easy as they make it look. The bolts underneath at the 90° turn are a pain to get too. Cutting out for the sink is easy except against the backsplash because it's to close to use jigsaw, you will need oscillating tool.
Cut it from the bottom. Make your measurements, then flip the counter over to cut. A jigsaw is fine.
Agreed, very true. My new sink will have a tight fit as well against the backsplash. I’ll test a few few different sizes screws to secure the counter top!
It is never as easy as they make it and you always run into some unusual problem.

"See how a new counter top can change your kitchen" UMMM You just remodeled the WHOLE kitchen!!! Lol even the door is different.
I was thinking that too

And idk who would want laminate eek
@@JohnIsRandomUA-camChannel new laminate countertop is like 500 bucks, granite is like 3000. that's why.
This was excellent how too. Even gone Depot doesn’t do it this well. I’m we are about to do this and I’m dreading it
How do you fixed a bow in the counter top? One piece is a concave bow
I'll look into that, thanks. I'd sure like to change the colour from black with white drops randomly spattered over it.
Instructions unclear, my countertop looks like a bed of nails, I'm missing a hand, and my face is glued to the cabinets 😟
😆
Did you measure twice cut once?
Sounds like you must've read the installation instructions...
What size screws do you recommend to secure the counter top to the cabinets?
3:47 *smiles to self* **remembers all the countertops you almost accidently did that to in your bosses flip houses.**
Hahaha dammit Bobby
Lots-O-Mistakes here, thing that bugged me the most is how they siliconed the sink in. You're supposed to apply a continuous bead along the underside of the sink near the edge so when you tighten the sink down no water can get by.
and so the bead of silicone doesn't show! my sink was installed with white caulk on the countertop and it's difficult to keep clean & to avoid gouging it with table knives, etc. i have to say that by now, the caulk looks absolutely nasty and ruins the overall look. Finish work is extremely important!
Thank you, I am preparing to rebuild the kitchen
I like watching these videos but for me it reminds we of why it is not a bad idea to hire professionals if you can. I don’t have all the specialized tools and if something goes wrong the pro has to fix it. They can probably do it in 1/4th the time it will take me, as well as some sort of guarantee. I had Lowe’s put in all new window treatments for me years ago and they came out great.
people always mad about the methods but surprisingly good general information
Can you do an undermount sink with a laminate countertop?
For the love of god when you cut in to a counter top with a jig saw, DO NOT cut in to the corners of the holes you drilled.
Corners are starting points for where the laminate will start to crack over time. So when you cut the hole out for the sink, make sure not to make a corner with your cuts. Just go right up to the pre drilled hole, that way the 4 corners of the cut are rounded.
Great tip thanks!
Helpful, thank you!
Helpful. Thanks
Yes, makes sense !!
That same tip applies to just about every material you can imagine.
I got the same countertops with knotty pine cabinets. Some laminate is off on mine. I wonder if ironing is only way to reattach piece.
Contact cement, works great for the laminate ends.put it on both pieces and wait 5 min and attach,it sticks forever
Excellent video. Any moderate diyer could tackle a project like this no problem. Take it with a grain of salt, some steps like scribing are not necessary if you just use caulk.
I was just about to ask about the caulk
A wise man once told me …
Try your best and caulk the rest 😂
Sooooo, just let Lowe's do it! 😆
Oh sweet!!! Can you give me a little info on how the process works? Do they just provide installer? Did you have to go somewhere else to pick out countertops? Help me... lol
Well, I'm doing this now and the two ends that are cut at 45 degrees do not match up. There is an eight inch gap in the middle.
I'll never be able to make that look good.
Nice - how much does it cost approximately?
You
Can get Micah countertops that start at about $130
Great help. Im ready now to do this myself!!
I got the landlord special. My countertop has CAULK to hold it and let me tell you any weight of it and it’s like a sea saw that goes up. Can I fix this myself?
Very helpful. Thank you
DO NOT flip the sink upside down and mark the outline on the counter top its self WITHOUT putting tape down first. Never ever mark finished surfaces.
Why? and Why?
Um use a pencil. Erase if necessary. Don’t use Arnold Schwarzenegger strength. Light pencil mark is not a problem at all
It can be lightly marked with a pencil. Doesn’t hurt a thing
You could use chalk

Actually not. It is very simple. You can skip about five of those steps and get the same outcome

Is the counter glued down ?
What is acceptable back support, and how important is it? I'm using 2x4's, but now there isn't room for my clips.
Do they come already cut on an angel with the miter bolts?

Silicone AROUND THE EDGES ? ..it goes under the sink rim
That's what I thought and I have never done a sink.

Plumbers puddy rolled out like a pencil, then under the sink. Push down firm and wipe off excess that squeezes out
How do you secure the corner if you can't get under it ?
Ledger board and Liquid nails
Exactly my thought. The space under my corner is a lazy Susan closed cabinet. No access to the underside of the countertop from inside the cabinet.
See what a new kitchen can do for a kitchen!?
Question on the inside joint that you tighten. When the two larger pieces meet at 2:08 (mitered corner) do you not put any type of caulk or silicon between them then tighten? What happens if one side is slightly higher than the other causing a bump on the mitered joint?
NewShockerGuy do not use silicone nor caulk only use wood glue tightbond 3 preferably and as far as getting the seam perfectly flat you have to hammer it out, if you're a beginner you should use a flat piece of wood on top of the countertop while hitting it so you don't damage it
@@Manny-117 do not hit over the connecting bolts!
@Semper Fi been doing counterops for over 7 years, would be lying to you if i said i never went through a top or dented a top here and there but over the years you develop a touch to where you can hit it just right to align it perfectly without denting it and using no piece of wood- professional laminate counterop installer LOL :)

How to lnstall shower
TnkQ sir for this video
so I shouldn't have put the wood flooring planks down where the cabinets will go... I guess it's a good thing i watched this before installing the cabinets. Not a huge lose and I didn't even caulk the edges yet... I didn't know what the heck to do to make sure the appliances would fit... i guess i'll find some 5/8th plywood instead... the planks do seem too weak with the underlayment play.
what if the longest length they sell is 10 ft and I need 15 feet of counter. do I add the extra 5 feet with the toggle bolts? There is no bend in my counter 15 straight? any ideas how to do it?
You can butt up two pieces for long runs, but you'll have to do some fine tuning to make sure that seam isn't visible. Don't know the layout of your space, but any place you have a break in the counter (stove, apron-front sink, fridge, tall cabinet, etc.) is a perfect place to split the long run & avoid the seam. Good luck & thanks for watching!

i am no carpenter!!! butt if u take measurements.. a good cabinet guy will blue print this for... then double check blueprint in kitchen.. they will make all those cuts for u! the idea with the clamps is awesome .. i didn't know that im doing cabinets rihht now .. they will never be perfect against the rear wall.. butt if you put in a back splash it will cover gap.. with alot of accidental planning it will be fine.. just get them close and mess around with them for two days!!! lol.. butt ya im not a professional .. not even close

What do you if your counter is longer than the longest piece sold at Lowe's?
That's when you move your stove and put it in the middle 😉
@@Lady_Cyndia Crafty :)
Just do a butt joint mitre instead of the standard 45 degree mitre. Same principle. Glue and mitre bolts the same.
Can the ends be cut at 45 degrees to make a water fall side
What
I cannot access the miter joint with the counter on the cabinets so I have to secure miter bolts with it on the ground and I'm wondering how difficult this will be for my wife and I to lift without damaging the mitered corner. The right miter side is only 61 inches but the left miter side is 9 feet. I'm just wondering if it will be secure enough to lift and set.
+Howard Platt - were you able to do this? we have the same problem
Same here the miter is over a closed top carousel cabinet. The left section is only 36" but the long section is a little over 11' !
seems like me too . I raised the sections on cut pieces of 4x4 over the assembled cabinets then I was able to see under the miter to attach the bolts. then lowered it down..
@@rogerbalcer1 get friends to help lift and steady top. Bad backs suck!!
Do you sell counter tops with mitered corners ? And sink cut outs ?
They couldn’t do that because the floor plan for every kitchen is different , plumbing would be an issue, just gotta believe in yourself man , you watch a few more videos and you can do it too!!
They do sell them. They just might not be the length that you need. The 45° angles and bolts should be in there though depending on the manufacture. Regardless, a 45° angle is a 45° angle and when you put two of them together, you’re guaranteed to get a 90.
Did I miss anything about sealing the mitre seam? This is what I need to know...
Min 3:30
Much more detailed UA-cam videos are easily googled I.e. Countertop mitre connection
Doesn’t really need to be sealed. It’s all wood glue.
Should the counter top be cut exactly to lenght (wall to wall) or a few millimeters shorter? Thanks
We always cut it a half inch(more so if you want to be on the safe side!) bigger so when it comes to installing it you can scribe it in perfectly as no wall in the world is perfectly straight or parallel for that matter- professional countertop installer

You gotta give " how to & where to use Silicone silicone is only used on smooth surfaces , you dont use silicone on textured drywall
I am trying to install my counter tops at the miter but I can't get to the bolts because of the lazy susan cabinet below...??????help.....thanks
Jerry Caudle if it's possible at all do the seam on some work horses and then install your countertop if that's not possible say it's too long or something then you're gonna have to notch the top of the lazy susan where the draw bolts are so you can access them under the top
I'd tight the bolts first on a saw horse and then move it in place.

HOLD UP! WHY DIDNT YOU SHOW HOW TO MEASURE AND MAKE THE CORNER CUT? This is not an easy job people.
They have pre-cut pieces for the corners, that come with the bolts and nuts I think.
gigglecheeks123 because it was factory cit
Its pre cut
Because you don't have to make the corner cut. Its usually pre cut from store and all what you need to do is select from right to left miter corners. The corner also includes the bolt housing underneath ,just insert bolts in,glue and tight.
