Thanks for this very timely video! I’m getting ready to start a new project and was waffling on the size I want to make and if I’m swatch was good. I’ve been knitting for 20 years and always swatch for garments but it’s still a nerve wracking thing when starting a sweater! 😊

I needed this video! Tbh though sometimes my gauge seems to just change over the course of a project. I’m working on your Go Gently design right now and while my gauge in the yoke seems spot on to my gauge swatch, it loosened up considerably after the body/sleeve divide and in the end I decided to rip back and go down a needle size for the body. *sigh* But yes, I also need to get better at taking note of both my knitting and blocked gauge…!

Thank you for this. I had a couple of lying swatches just recently. I am good with my swatches and blocking them but 1 item looks baggy and another just a little snug. I know why the one item is baggy now ( it was 100% silk yarn) but still not sure why the second one came out snug. I will have to block as a go perhaps.

I definitely never took a look at my knitting gauge - great tip I'll make sure to keep it in mind.
Would you consider doing a video about how to block a garment in progress to check gauge during knitting? I wouldn't know how to start doing that and it seems kind off daunting to me

I will try my best to make one in the future, but for now, I promise it's super easy. Put your project on some waste yarn (or if it's something like addi metal needles without click joins, those are water safe) and dunk your project in some water, squeeze it out, and lay it out to dry! Keeping the sts secured and safe is the main thing and it's the same as any other wet blocking :)
